Chapter 30 - Change one's mind

Is it okay?

Xin Gan didn't ask any more.

She was merely sure whether Jiang Tang had feelings for him unilaterally or not.

The wind gradually grew stronger. Xin Gan reached out to hold his hat and asked him, "Where are you going?"

He just said that there is a small temple nearby. Go and have a look there.

Xin Gan went along with her. With a hat blocking most of the sunlight, she wasn't so exposed to the sun. She could look up at the distant sky without squinting.

Around the temple, there were flags of six colors. The wind was strong, causing the flags to shake wildly in one direction. Xin Gan's hair was also messed up. She brushed it behind her ear and pursed her lips tightly.

The temple was nothing special. It was a small one with a strong local style. There were monks chanting sutras in the temple. Cheng Jiu walked in and bowed respectfully. Xue Ling followed his example and bowed as well. However, she couldn't help but wonder in her heart: Did people like him also believe in Buddhism?

She thought he was an atheist.

Cheng asked her, "Do you want to draw lots?"

"No." Xin Gan subconsciously refused.

Why?

"Nor..."

Don't believe it?

"Don't believe it." Xin Gan said, "Do you believe it?"

Cheng Jiu's voice was calm: "Then do you believe what I just said?"

Xin Gan: "..." Her heart suddenly stopped beating halfway and she bit her lip without saying a word.

Cheng Jiu said, "You don't believe it."

Just now she asked him what his relationship was with Jiang Tang. He replied that it didn't matter and even asked in return, "Do you believe me?"

She didn't reply, but Cheng Jiu now blurted out the answer she was reluctant to give in her heart.

Yes, she doesn't believe it at all.

Both were adult men and women. Jiang Tang's feelings for him were so obvious that one could detect them if they observed carefully. Jiang Tang couldn't hide her feelings for Cheng Jiu either. But after Xin Gan came, Jiang Tang felt a sense of crisis and couldn't wait to reveal her relationship with Cheng Jiu in front of Xin Gan.

Cheng Jiu brought a lottery bucket from the table beside him and said, "Give it a try. Let's draw one and see."

Xin Gan was not in the right form and naturally didn't take the lottery bucket he handed over.

After about ten seconds, she said, "I don't believe it."

He turned back to look at her, very calmly: "Don't you believe her or me?"

Xin Gan: "Tell the truth?"

"Otherwise?"

None of them believe it.

Cheng Jiu pursed his lips, showing no reaction. Suddenly, he walked over, lowered his head and said, "Xin Gan, I'll tell you the truth too. I don't believe you'll break off your marriage with me either."

What does it mean?

"Literal meaning." Cheng Jiu looked into the distance, his pupils deep, reflecting the blue sky. He said, "I'm not young anymore. I should settle down as soon as possible. It's good for both families."

Do you want to go back on your word? Xin Gan's tone was rather urgent. "You promised me. We agreed. You were willing to break off this marriage. You agreed to me not long ago."

She didn't expect that he would go back on his word and be unreasonable.

Cheng Jiu glanced at her, put the lottery bucket back and walked out of the temple before her.

She followed all the way back to the parking spot, but he paid no attention to her.

He opened the car door and got in. The driver's door was left open. She rested her hand on the door handle and stood not far from Cheng Jiu, frowning and staring at him, saying, "Cheng Jiu, are you lying to me?"

Cheng Jiu took out a cigarette, lit it, and gently exhaled a puff of smoke, saying, "Xin Gan, why do you have this name?"

He changed the topic and didn't answer her directly.

Xin Gan couldn't smile. She kept biting her lower lip. Her face was already pale and her heart was pounding. She was anxious and angry. For the time being, she couldn't figure out why he would change his mind.
