Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – Two-Headed Wolf X Poachers

In the silent forest—

Everything around was unusually quiet. Only the occasional howl of wolves echoed from afar, breaking the stillness of the night.

With the sound of rustling and branches being stepped on, Kevin emerged. Striding confidently ahead of him was Jin.

Soon, the two reached a hillside and crouched at the edge, watching the dark jungle below.

Lights flickered intermittently in the jungle. Someone was moving down there.

"There are four poachers. They have hunting rifles, and pistols on their hips."

What? How did you see that?

Kevin was full of doubt. With the darkness and trees in the way, he couldn't understand how Jin managed to see through all of it.

Even when they had just arrived, Kevin had been full of questions.

Jin moved through the forest like a silent predator, as if it were his own backyard.

Kevin, on the other hand, felt clumsy and exposed.

Jin handed him a device that looked like binoculars. "Here, use this to look."

Kevin took it.

"Holy crap! What kind of black tech is this?"

He exclaimed in surprise, then quickly lowered his voice.

You couldn't blame him. The goggles were insane. He had never used night vision gear before, but had at least seen them in videos.

But these binocular-like goggles made everything look like broad daylight.

They didn't rely on any kind of special optical trick—it was just like daytime.

Apparently, the technology in this world was outrageous in some ways.

He looked through the device.

After a while, he finally saw each figure clearly.

Just as Jin had said.

"What are you going to do? Call the cops? Scare them off?" Kevin asked.

Still watching, Kevin didn't notice Jin glance back at him in the darkness.

"I know where they're heading. We'll go wait for them there. You just observe."

Earlier, Jin had planned to push Kevin into a fight to force him to observe more, but just now he changed his mind.

Soon, under Jin's lead, they took a hidden path and arrived at a cave.

Kevin immediately smelled a faint scent of blood—and something else.

From the cave's darkness, under the moonlight, a wolf's head emerged.

The most eye-catching feature was a silver horn about a finger-length long growing from the wolf's head, shimmering faintly under the moonlight.

Kevin was stunned, even the fear he had when the wolf suddenly appeared faded.

Is this right?

When the whole wolf came out, it felt even more wrong.

Because it had two heads!

A two-headed wolf, though only one head had a unicorn-like horn.

Its silver-gray fur shimmered under the moonlight—beautiful and sacred.

Another wolf appeared, slightly smaller, with the horn on the other head on the right side—shorter and rounder.

A few small figures ran out—wolf pups.

They were also two-headed, but hornless.

The two-headed wolves didn't seem hostile, just a little wary of Kevin.

Then they all gathered around Jin like loyal dogs, licking him and wagging their tails. The pups even tried to climb on him.

Facing Kevin's curious gaze, Jin gently petted the wolf heads and said, "They're two-headed wolves. A few years ago, they were nearly extinct. We found the last pair and used technology to help them reproduce and preserve the bloodline."

Pride and satisfaction were clearly written on Jin's face.

Now Kevin understood how he died—and why.

Hunting a nearly extinct creature? Yeah, no sympathy.

Jin kept observing.

Soon, the poachers arrived in the area.

"Boss, are we there yet?" a scrawny poacher asked.

A sleazy, scar-faced man snapped, "Shut up. We're almost there. It should be right around here."

"If you ask me, we should've just bought a ticket and gone home. Can't even reach that slick bastard anymore," said a young man with golden broom-like hair.

The last member passed by him—a plain-faced man with no expression said, "If we don't want to keep living in this business, then yeah, that might be best."

"Tch, buzzkill," the blond guy muttered in boredom.

Whoosh!

A sharp sound tore through the air.

Something flew out from the darkness. The broom-haired guy was instantly struck and fell backward.

With a heavy thud, he collapsed unconscious. His cheek was sunken in, blood pouring from his mouth.

"Watch out!"

The four-man team clearly had training. Instantly, they found cover.

One drew his pistol and fired in the direction the attack came from.

The shots rang out in the night.

In the dark cave—

"Stop licking."

Kevin muttered, pushing a wolf pup off his shoulder.

He held the binoculars in both hands, eyes fixed on the distance without blinking.

He had just seen Jin pick something up off the ground—looked like a stone—and hurl it with force. The thing flew like a bullet.

It hit one of the poachers directly. The impact was so strong that the man was thrown back three or four meters and collapsed, seemingly unable to get up.

Then the poachers fired back.

Jin, as if window-shopping, casually picked up a few more stones and threw them again.

This time, the effect was even bigger.

The stones shattered tree trunks, and the poachers hiding behind them were all hit.

That's it?

Not yet!

Kevin saw the apparent leader of the group block one of the flying stones.

The force made him slide back a meter or two. He had crossed his arms to block.

Kevin could hear someone saying something.

But before the guy could fight back or defend himself—another stone came flying. This time, there wasn't even a sound.

In an instant—

The leader was blasted back four or five meters, crashing into a tree with a loud thud. He didn't look like he could fight anymore.

Holy crap, is this a wuxia novel?

You're telling me those were stones? Not bullets?

Judging by the fight and his fragmented memories, this clearly wasn't a normal world.

When he looked closely, Kevin thought he saw something flowing around that man's body. Hard to tell—vague and hazy.

Was it internal energy?

Or something else?

The view blacked out.

"Hey! Don't block the lens!"

Kevin reached out and pulled the wolf pup away that had been licking the binoculars.

Maybe he was too rough—the pup whimpered softly.

A dangerous gaze fell on him, and he felt a chill down his spine.

"Haha, your kid's adorable, Big Wolf."

Kevin awkwardly laughed and hugged the little pup he had just tugged away, petting it.

The pup didn't hold a grudge and started playing with Kevin again.
