Chapter 7 - Meeting Again

Varan wandered through the plains, his mind and soul broken, the pain in his heart was unbearable and the grief in his soul was crushing, his armour covered in blood and the greatsword he dragged behind coated in blood, mud and snow. His deep blue eyes were dull and lifeless as they stared at the path ahead.

Varan's steps were slow, heavy, and without purpose, his once tall and wide frame had crumbled as he shoulders slouched and his back bent forward, he was a shell of his former self, a shell of the man that would walk through cities with his back straight as he towered over everyone.

"My sweet child." Varan heard Kyne's beautiful voice call out, but he ignored her, "My child." Kyne had called him again, Varan stopped walking and turned his head to his left, where he saw Kyne standing with her right hand reached out, "Come my child, it is time for you to return." Kyne had said, and he knew what she meant.

"No." Varan said, his once deep voice was now shallow, barely a whisper as it was muffled by his helmet, Kyne lowered her hand with a smile, "Very well." Her voice was filled with love and relief, it was as if she did not want Varan to give up and was glad, he hadn't.

Elien was sitting on her bed, in her hands was a book, the book she often read to her brothers when they were young. Her eyes were filled with tears as she gently caressed the cover, fond memories filling her mind, she had long since accepted their deaths, she hadn't yet moved on, and she still missed them, she missed her brothers.

A gentle breeze blew past her, causing her to look up from the book as gaze upon a beautiful woman, "Hello my child." The woman said as she smiled at Elien, "M-mother Kyne?" Elien asked as she stood up from her bed, "Yes my child." Kyne said as she stepped towards Elien and placed a soft and gentle hand on Elien's cheek.

"Why are you here?" Elien asked, leaning into Kyne's soft hand, "I need to come with me." Kyne said as she removed her hand, "Where to?" Elien asked as she set down the book in her hands softly onto her bed, "To someone whom you know and will come to love." Kyne said as she smiled once more.

Varan stood still underneath a large tree, the rain had stopped but not before cleaning his armour of the blood that had clung to it. Water drops fell from the tree leaves and onto Varan as he stood there. He lifted his hand and stared at it, his eyes clearing, the pain in his heart subsiding but the grief in his soul remained.

"Varan?" Heard a familiar voice call his name, he lifted his gaze from his hand and there stood Elien with Kyne next to her, Elien expression was one of shock while Kyne had a loving smile on her face, "Are you sure?" Varan heard Elien ask the Goddess next to her, Kyne just nodded her head.

"Miss Elien?" Varan asked, his deep voice was muffled but Elien still heard clear as day, "Mother Kyne brought me here." Elien said sheepishly with a small but noticeable blush gracing her cheeks. Kyne just continued to smile, "I will leave you two alone." Kyne said as she started fading away.

"Why did Kyne bring you here?" Varan asked Elien, who was now a blushing mess, "W-well..." Elien trailed off, "She said she would b-bring me to the one I would call my l-lover." She said as she buried her head in her hands, "I see." Varan said, he had not moved from his place under the tree as he gazed down at the embarrassed woman.

Elien removed her hands and looked at Varan, her blush still present, "M-may I see your face?" She asked as she stepped towards Varan, she now stood right in front of him, her emerald eyes looking up at him with a hopeful shine to them.

Varan didn't say anything, he just placed his hands on his helmet and removed it. His matt black hair fell loose, still wet from the rain, his deep blue eyes gazed into her emerald green eyes. "So beautiful." Elien whispered as she stared into Varan's eyes, she placed a hand on his cheek, his skin was cold and wet, but Elien did not care.

"Are you cold?" Elien asked Varan, her voice was soft and gentle as she gently caressed his cheek, Varan nodded his head, a slight blush had formed at Elien's action, "Come, let us go to my home, it's warm there." Elien said as she let go of Varan's cheek and grabbed his hand and started walking.

Varan just followed while Elien led the way, his large hand held by her smaller hand, even through his gauntlet, he could still feel the warmth of her hand, how soft and gentle they were, it made not want to let go. And it seemed neither did Elien as she gripped his hand tighter as she turned to smile at him.

It was a smile that could melt even the coldest of hearts, and Varan's heart was no exception.
