Preparations for the wedding banquet were overseen by Aunt Mu and his sisters while Mu Chen went to town to commission a new cabinet for Lin Rou so she could have something to put her clothes in and a dressing table for her to put her new jewelry. He then had the village chief help him set up the garden he wanted so she wouldn't have to go up the mountain since she was frightened by it. The whole town was gossiping about how much Hunter Mu spoiled his little wife. Lin Rou had already finished the wedding clothes and had sister Ru wash them. She made his robes with a golden crane in a bamboo forest. The outer robe had the scene embroidered into the back with the crane's wings spread wide to decorate the sleeves. Her robe was decorated with two sparrows in a Yin Yan pattern with cherry trees around them. One sparrow was simply the lines creating the sparrow. The other was fully filled in with the thread to fully create the scene. She moved on to make the new clothes she wanted to give to Mu Chen as a gift and she needed new clothes anyway. Her sisters in law had all joined in the fun as they made the new pillows and padding for their shared bed. Aunt Mu had enlisted the aid of their men to make the new tatami mat for the floor and bed. The curtains were all embroidered with the same crane and sparrow designs. Their wedding room was decorated by Lin Rou's embroidery. In the corner of the room was a small bed for Yin and another for Yan with fur lining on them. The beds were low to the ground and designed for adult sized animals so they wouldn't need new ones as they grow. For now they spent the majority of their time with Lin Rou so they can bond. She fed them minced meat paste with some milk every few hours. Mu Chen looked at his little wife as she sat with his Aunt and sisters giggling as Yan ran around them. His uncle stopped beside him. "Are you happy son?" Mu Chen looked at his uncle. The tatami mat for the floor was done and he was bringing more straw to weave the one for the bed. "I never thought I would ever be this happy. Are they going to come?" He was referring to his birth parents. His uncle grimaced. "Your father will but she won't. He is happy you can find a woman who is willing to marry you. He will be bringing a bride price. Even though he knows she has no family that we can find." Mu Chen smiled as he thought of the only parent who cared about him. Mu Yuqin was an honest and hardworking man, but his wife was a money hungry shrew. When she found out that Mu Chen was weak as a baby, she wanted nothing to do with him. Mu Yuqin practically raised him from birth. He only gave him over to his sister in law when he had to go work in the fields. "He will like her, Lin Rou is a gentle woman, I don't want her to be hurt by mother."
"I can't guarantee that she won't show but if she does, just keep Rou'er close so she doesn't become too bad." Mu Chen nodded and went back to work on the garden. Lin Rou mentioned growing herbs for medicine in case he gets injured so he was making sure the area marked for that was exactly the way she wanted it. He put the manure mound close by so she wouldn't have to go far for fertilizer. The men were almost done with the garden when Aunt Mu called them over for lunch.
"Lin Rou showed me a new recipe, it's a sweet and spicy carp dish with sweet peppers and chilies. The noodles are egg noodles with green onions and wild mushrooms. Dig in!"
Mu Chen sat beside Lin Rou and placed the food in her bowl before he served himself. The sweet and spicy flavor of the fish was delicious and the noodles were perfectly done. "Where did you learn this? It's really good!" Mu Chen praised his wife. She blushed. "I saw the fish in the kitchen and I remembered my parents made this for me as a child, I can't see their faces but I can hear their voices as I ate it." She smiled sadly. Mu Chen hugged her gently. "I promise, I'll help you find them." The people around the table all praised her dish trying to make her feel better. Soon Aunt Mu was telling her that once she was healed, she would teach her the dishes she knew and what Mu Chen liked to eat. By the end of the meal, Lin Rou was in a better mood and the atmosphere was back to the happiness over the wedding in a few days.
That night, Mu Chen helped Lin Rou back to bed and went to the main room to sleep. His mood became lighter after finding out that his father planned to give a bride price to Lin Rou tomorrow.
