LAST PLAYER STANDING

Season 1 – Arc 5: Final Countdown

---

The lights of the arena dimmed. For a moment, only the mechanical hum of the surveillance drones filled the void.

Then came the voice.

> "Attention players. 28 contenders remain. Initiating: Final Countdown."

Aiden stood still, his blood-stained hoodie torn and his breath uneven. His hand gripped a rusted pipe—once a tool, now a weapon. He looked to his left. Ryo leaned against a wall, barely conscious. Mei stood on alert, her knife still dripping.

They'd survived four rounds. Four hellish arcs filled with death, betrayal, and impossible choices.

But something felt different now.

The ground beneath them shifted. With a low rumble, the metallic floor cracked open into hexagonal panels, separating everyone into isolated zones.

Aiden had no time to reach the others.

> "Split protocol active. Each player will now face their own trial. Survive your zone. Eliminate one. No exceptions."

"Wait, what?" Aiden gasped, stumbling backward. But the moment he turned, another player was already there—one he didn't know. They stared at each other, equally shocked.

The player's name tag blinked: Player 043 – Lin.

She was young. Maybe sixteen. Blood on her sleeves. Hands trembling. But her eyes—calm. Too calm.

"I don't want to do this," Aiden said quietly.

"You think I do?" Lin replied. "But it's one of us. Just like every other time."

The system chimed again:

> "Survivor Count Must Drop. Countdown Initiated: 15 Minutes."

"System Phrase: Trust Points are now frozen. Only kills will determine advancement."

---

Aiden felt the weight of that phrase in his bones. No more Trust Point bargaining. No alliances. No delaying the inevitable.

The arena had made its final demand: blood for freedom.

He and Lin circled each other in silence. In another world, they might've been friends. Or allies. But in the Reckoning, mercy was weakness.

Still, Aiden couldn't lift his weapon.

"Fight me," Lin whispered, taking a shaky step forward. "You don't understand… I need to survive this. I have to."

But Aiden did understand. He saw it in her eyes—the desperation. The pain.

> "Is this what they want?" he thought. "To make us murder each other just to stay human?"

---

The clock ticked.

10:42.

10:05.

09:33.

Every second felt like a cut to the soul.

And then, Lin lunged.

Aiden dodged, barely avoiding her blade, and they both crashed into the metal wall. They grappled, slipped, and scrambled for breath—two shadows trying to avoid fate.

But fate never waited.

Lin managed to shove Aiden down and raise her knife.

"I'm sorry!" she cried—and just as the blade dropped, Aiden rolled aside and slammed her hand away. The knife flew.

They locked eyes again.

Aiden's heart thundered.

He saw the fear.

The rage.

The loss.

He remembered his brother.

He remembered why he had to survive.

And then—

Aiden struck.

One swing of the pipe.

Lin fell.

Not dead… but broken.

The system blared:

> "Player 043 eliminated. 27 remaining."

> "Survivor: Player 001. Advancement granted."

> "Zone Transition in 60 seconds."

---

Aiden stood alone.

His hands shook. His mind raced.

He had survived. Again.

But at what cost?

As he looked down at Lin's unconscious form being dragged away by drones, a sick feeling settled in his gut.

> "This isn't survival. This is slaughter dressed as a game."

And the countdown had only just begun.
