Synopsis
Lee Maverick's life has never been easy. She was classified as a loser: bullied up until an early age, had barely any friends to call her own, and her daily life consisted of helping to teach at her adoptive father's dojo and mop floors--fun for a high school girl. That is until one accident led to her untimely death. Cliche, I know, but get this--Lee expects death to be filled with balls of light, singing angels, and dancing naked babies meeting her at the (fingers-crossed) gates of heaven, but surprisingly enough, Lee wakes up to a nightmare. Confusing--I know--and the nice receptionist told her she landed in purgatory--the land between hell and heaven, and because of her very complicated life, her situation is "unique," which means she's placed in a world combined with angels and not-so-bad devils under one roof--which leads us to where we are now, Ragnar Academy. Ragnar Academy is home to both angelic beings and powerful devils who have either earned or have been blessed with the opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime (haha, pun) opportunity to regain a second chance at life. Here are the rules: graduate the academy as a Soul Executioner, succeed in missions, and collect 100 souls for their capstone assignment. Then, they will be given the opportunity of a new life. Lee isn't sure how the heck she's supposed to survive evil demons and kind-of-nice-but-spoiled angels floating around, let alone the many new, but odd homework assignments and missions she has to go on to get a second chance at life, but she'll try. She isn't very good at a lot of things, but Lee knows how to hold her own--farming 100 souls shouldn't be that hard, right?

Chapter 1 - Here I Am, Death!

Lee Maverick thought dying would be...different? And she means different as in not...this?

I mean, who hasn't heard at least one or two stories where people who "come back from the dead" in a coma or something said they saw some big light, God poetically speaking to them like some cool, spiritual-miracle rap and song, and then bam--they're back to reality and to earth where they can tell people about their strange death experience.

So far, however, after Lee wakes up and squeezes her ruby eyes a few times to clears the blurriness from them and lets out a loud yawn, Lee realizes she hasn't come back to reality or earth. In fact, it seems as if she isn't having a "come back from the dead" in a coma experience; she's most likely just dead, and the big ball of light she expected along with God (or whoever it is up there) preaching some really long sermon about her life before death is not there at all (so she's been lied to, great).

Instead, Lee's ruby eyes roam to the sky, where half of this said sky is a blood red, light red clouds slowly maneuver and fly above as the other half of the sky is like earth--bright, blue, filled with white clouds, yet unlike earth, the sky contains rings of gold--like angel halos--on top of each cloud.

Each side of the scenery has the same elements--trees, side walks, trails, even down to the patches of grass on both side, but the red side's trees lack green, flourishing leaves in comparison to its twin; its side walks and walking trails are red and black, and the patches of green and flowers blooming in the ground are all colored black, red, and white, while the other side of the scenery is bright, green leaves on the trees and bright colored flowers blooming in the ground and-holy moley, how is this even possible? Where is Lee? Why is the world spilt into two different halves? And also, why are two people dressed in weird medieval knight wear looking down at her, poking her cheek and pulling her puffy, curly afro--ouch!

"Is it...dead?" One of them asked, their voice high pitched, but low enough that Lee figures its mostly likely a man under the suit.

"Um...no idea?" The other voice said, and their voice is soft, light, like feathers. "Like if its dead, tots gross!"

Lee blinks, springing forward and sitting up, not even flinching as one of the persons--the one with the lower voice--screams, flailing their arms around as they screech and run in a circle.

"Not this again..." The other person sighs, running a hand across their silver helmet. "Leave it for me to be on guard duty with this knuckle head..."

"Uh, hi." Lee said, awkwardly clearing her throat. "…where am I again?"

The knight (Lee assumes) with the soft voice pauses, then lets out a loud sigh, as if they're tired and annoyed by the question.

"You must be a new recruit, great. Not this crap again." The knight sighs, raising their hand and pointing towards a road leading down a long pathway near the side of the world that's red. "Follow that road. Don't wander. Go straight. Then you'll arrive where you need to be. Please have you badge or ID ready if you have one."

Lee raises an eyebrow, ready to ask what the knight meant by badge or ID, but then she stops, eyeing the bright red road; staring at the spooky crows and ravens flying around in the sky.

"That path isn't going to take me to Hell or something evil, right?" Lee asked. "Because...I wasn't that bad...I think…?"

The knight pauses, flinching as they point to the road.

"Ah...so you see the red path? Well, that's unfortunate." The knight said. "Too bad you don't see the other path. It's quite pretty."

"Oh, you mean the one with the halo's on the clouds?" Lee asked with a raised eyebrow. "It's right over there--I can see it, but you're telling me to walk to the other one?"

The knight pauses, as if there malfunctioning, then they gasped, quickly standing up straighter and dusting themselves off. They eagerly pat themselves down before reaching for something in their armor suit (is that even sanitary) before handing it to Lee.

"T-take this with you!" The knight said, handing Lee a badge with a door on it colored red and blue with a sword in the middle, similar to the spilt worlds. "It'll help them to sort out your special case! I-well-I've gotten a few speical cases, but never someone who's seen...wow, okay hahaha I'll stop chatting! Please be on your way, new student!"

Lee frowns, but feels too lazy and focused to ask further questions, so she shrugs, following down the road the knight pointed her towards.

"Good luck!" The knight said, a pep in their voice. "We'll see each other soon, special one!"

Lee swallows, her ruby eyes scrolling through the looming forest. She eyes the really scary crows crying in the sky, circling around the many trees of the forest and surfing through the sky around the red stained clouds.

"Wait..." Lee mumbles as she moves forward. "Student...?"
