Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Hufflepuff Common Room

Since it was the first class of the new term, Professor Flitwick didn't teach anything else after that and instead began letting the students continue practicing the Refilling Charm.

With Link's earlier bonus points setting an example, the students naturally doubled their efforts, wanting to do better. Especially the students from Ravenclaw House, they were practically treating this as an exam.

Unfortunately, no matter how well they did, Professor Flitwick didn't award them any points.

During this time, Link didn't idle either and kept casting the Refilling Charm to gain more experience with it.

By the time the class bell rang, he had cast the Refilling Charm a total of 53 times. Although he was tired, it also made the experience bar of the Refilling Charm rise once again by nearly half.

Based on this, Link speculated that if he wanted to level the Refilling Charm up to Level 3, he'd need to cast it dozens more times. That is to say, the experience required for upgrading spells increases geometrically.

This was not good news for Link, because with his limited magic power, the number of spells he could cast each day was also limited.

Sighing, Link packed up his things and followed the crowd out of the classroom.

Hogwarts Castle was big. Link had been prepared for this, but now that he was seeing it with his own eyes, he was still stunned by the grand spectacle.

All sorts of strange staircases and corridors were spread throughout. The most peculiar of all was the floating staircases in the center of the castle.

This area was vast, with countless staircases and platforms flying around mid-air in a chaotic mess, dazzling to the eyes.

If Link were alone, he was sure he would get lost. Fortunately, there were still other students around. As long as he followed the crowd, Link believed he would eventually get back to the common room.

Also, the original host of this body clearly didn't have a good memory, when Link was going through the original host's personal "belongings," he unexpectedly found a note. On it was a simple hand-drawn map of Hogwarts and a record of the original host's dormitory number and bed number.

This was a great help to Link.

And so, he followed at the back of the Hufflepuff crowd, slowly moving forward. During this process, Link noticed something rather unusual.

That was, his so-called classmates seemed to particularly dislike him.

Ever since leaving the classroom, no one had come over to speak to him. All the people in Hufflepuff House seemed to be deliberately ignoring him, treating him like air.

Although he didn't know the reason, Link was actually quite happy about this.

After all, he had just arrived and hadn't yet gained the original host's memories. To fully blend into this world, he needed a period to gather information and adapt.

During this process, no one disturbing him was the best.

However, just as Link was deep in thought, a tall figure blocked his way. Link stopped with a blank expression and looked up at the person.

He saw a tall Hufflepuff student, still wet all over, glaring angrily at him.

Link recognized this person. He was the one who had laughed the hardest in class earlier. In revenge, Link had "accidentally" splashed a cup of water on him.

Clearly, this person hadn't dared to retaliate in front of Professor Flitwick, so now he had come to cause trouble.

"Do you have some problem with your eyesight? Blocking my path?"

"What did you say!?"

Apparently not expecting Link to strike first, the person was stunned for a moment, and after realizing what was said, his face twisted in anger.

This made his already not-so-handsome face even uglier.

"Do you also have a hearing problem as well?" Link said with a thoughtful look. "Truly pitiful. Are you sure someone with your kind of disabilities really qualifies to be a wizard?"

"You…"

The other person's body twitched violently, his fists clenched tight. But looking at the many students coming and going nearby, he ultimately didn't make a move.

"You little Death Eater brat!" He said resentfully. However, upon hearing that, Link merely scoffed.

The other person looked like he was about to explode with rage. But in the end, he didn't attack. He only gave Link one final angry glare before turning and walking away, shouting as he went, "Just you wait! I'll make you pay for this!"

Watching the other person's figure grow more distant, a mocking smile appeared at the corner of Link's mouth.

At Hogwarts there were four houses. Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff.

Gryffindor represented courage; Slytherin, cunning and unscrupulousness; Ravenclaw, wisdom and knowledge. As for Hufflepuff, it stood for loyalty, kindness, and hard work.

From these descriptors, you might already be able to tell, in the public eye, Hufflepuff was generally considered the weakest of the four houses.

And that student's behavior just now, in Link's view, perfectly proved this point.

All bark and no bite, acting fierce but not daring to actually do anything, just making sneaky little moves behind the scenes to disgust others.

Shaking his head, Link continued on his way to the common room.

The entrance to the Hufflepuff common room was in the same corridor as the Hogwarts kitchens.

From the outside, it looked like a pile of round wooden barrels stacked in a dark stone recess of the wall, but clearly, there was more than met the eye inside.

Link watched as a boy at the front of the group naturally tapped a specific rhythm on the barrels, and then one of the lids opened automatically.

Link was very interested in this. He lightly tapped a boy next to him on the shoulder and asked, "What happens if you knock the wrong rhythm?"

At those words, the boy reacted like a frightened chick, retreating several steps in alarm. Then, with a face full of disgust, he shouted at Link, "Try it yourself! You little Death Eater brat!"

Link's face darkened. But before he could react, the boy had already crawled into the barrel.

Gritting his teeth, Link held back his anger and climbed in as well.

The barrel tunnel wasn't long. Behind it was a small sloping dirt path. Following it upward led to a round room. This entire layout made one think of a badger's den.

The room had a lively black and yellow theme like bumblebees, and to balance out these colors, many plants were arranged in the Hufflepuff common room.

For example, hanging from the ceiling in bronze-bottomed pots were lots of curled ferns and vines that would gently stroke your hair when you walked beneath them.

And on the other side, above the fireplace carved with badger patterns, was a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff. This famous lady was one of the four founders of Hogwarts.

At the moment, she was holding a golden cup with two handles, toasting her students in the painting.

Overall, the decor here was very cozy, giving off a homely feeling.

If one had to point out a downside, it would be that the room seemed to be a semi-basement. Through the small round windows on the walls, one could only see hurried pairs of feet passing by.

Link was fairly satisfied with the place. He nodded and headed toward the two bee-colored wooden doors deep in the round room. Based on his earlier observation, that should be the passage leading to the dormitories.

For Link at this moment, the most urgent task was to inspect the original host's belongings and use that to learn more information.

Otherwise, continuing to live in this world without knowing anything about the original host would be extremely dangerous.
