Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: The Lion Behind the Curtain

The next morning began with silence—not peace, not calm, but a deliberate, curated silence.

Li Zhenyu sat at the breakfast bar, fingers slowly flipping through a digital tablet. On the screen: board meeting transcripts, surveillance summaries, and balance sheets from companies that didn't even know he owned them.

Across the kitchen, Shen Yinyin was humming to herself as she made eggs. Wearing his oversized shirt, bare-legged, hair slightly messy—she looked like a wife from a painting.

Zhenyu watched her, his gaze unreadable. His lips parted slightly.

She didn't know she was cooking for the man who had bought out her father's debt last week. Or that the CEO she would meet today had signed a loyalty contract to Zhenyu just hours ago.

She turned with a plate. "Eat with me."

"I'll watch you."

"I like it when you eat," she teased.

He smirked. "I like it when you beg."

She blushed—only for a moment—then kissed his cheek.

While she dressed for work, Zhenyu returned to his underground control room. A new file had arrived, delivered by one of his silent agents.

Subject: Shen HaoRelation: Wife's cousinPosition: Shen Corporation, Deputy Director of Research & DevelopmentSuspicion: Insider leak to Shen Jinghai

Zhenyu scanned the report, his eyes narrowing.

"Send someone to follow him. Discreetly," he said into the mic.

The voice on the other end replied, "Already in progress, Chairman. Also, the Shen family asset under 'S.H. Holdings' just triggered a hidden stock dilution. Would you like to take control?"

Zhenyu paused, then smiled.

"Trigger it. Let them think they still own the company. Then freeze the liquidity next quarter."

At 10:15 AM, Shen Yinyin walked into her office and was surprised to see Shen Hao already there.

He looked nervous.

"Yinyin-jie," he said, standing. "Just wanted to check in. Everything okay lately?"

She gave a polite smile. "Busy, as usual."

"I, uh… I heard your husband is staying home these days. Must be nice, having someone cook and take care of things."

She tilted her head. "Why are you asking?"

Shen Hao looked flustered. "No reason. Just… you've changed. You used to be more—independent."

Yinyin stood slowly, walking over to him. "Are you spying on me, Shen Hao?"

"N-no! I just—"

"Because if you are," she said, her voice now cold and sharp, "I'll personally have you audited."

He paled. She walked back to her desk and sat down with grace.

"Leave."

He left quickly, not seeing the quiet security camera blinking behind the bookshelf—streaming live to a dark room far across the city.

At home, Zhenyu sipped from a cup of tea. His expression was flat, but the quiet tightening of his grip said more.

He pressed a button.

"Destroy Shen Hao's credit lines. Leak his affair with the vice president's assistant to HR. Do it in waves—slow collapse. No scandal yet. Let him squirm."

"Understood."

Zhenyu leaned back in his chair.

By the time Li Mei and Li Ruolan arrived that evening, the sky had turned lavender and gold. The two women were glowing from a long day—neither knowing they had worked all day inside companies where every door, every camera, every system reported back to Zhenyu.

"Dinner?" Mei asked sweetly, setting grocery bags down.

Ruolan walked over and ruffled Zhenyu's hair. "Still lazy and beautiful, I see."

He smiled slightly. "Still blind and confident, I see."

Mei laughed softly. "Don't be rude to your sister."

"Don't be boring around your son," Ruolan shot back.

The three sat down to dinner like any family—smiling, joking, unaware of the suffocating grip that quietly existed between their hearts.

But only Zhenyu knew the truth.

They didn't know how much he owned. They didn't know what kind of man he was.And he liked it that way.

Because one day, when the final move was made, they'd all kneel—not in fear, but in devotion.

And he would own everything.
