Chapter 19 - Poison Darts

Kael explained his plan of using the poison to paralyze the target for a few seconds and then finishing them off. They needed to be quick for this, and he was quite confident too.

After hearing everything, the lion family seemed to have gained another level of respect for him. Though, he could also see that they didn't really like his methods.

But that was fine too.

He wasn't going to force others to change their beliefs as long as they didn't bother him. They just needed to stay out of his way, and he was fine with their ideals.

Since he knew that there were beasts looking for them, Kael decided to prepare his counter immediately. It was a simple plan of using poison darts.

For that, he needed Kiona's help or rather, her flames. She agreed to work with him and helped him create the darts.

It was a pretty simple method he had used back on Earth when he was stuck in a ruin with no weapons left. He killed beasts and used their hard bones as the body of the darts.

This time, he used the snake's bones for it.

They first cut open the snake, washed it in the river, and took out its important parts like the meat, venom sac, and its bones.

The snake had a pouch-like thick sac near its mouth, filled with terrible poison that could massacre a whole village if mixed into their water supply.

Yet, it wasn't enough for their enemies.

They set aside the sacs as they would be used later and, using Kiona's flames, crafted the bodies of the darts. It was just a finger-sized thin piece of bone.

However, it was balanced and could fly like a bullet.

"This is good," Kael said, balancing the bone piece on his fingers. "It should be able to carry the extra weight too."

"Did you use these methods a lot?" Kiona asked, while shaping a bone piece through her flames.

"When you have nothing to survive with, you have to rely on everything around you and inside you," Kael smiled.

"Survival, huh..." Kiona whispered to herself.

"Yeah, there was this one time when I got stuck in cave behind a waterfall. When I entered the cave, the whole area was dried up, but then this river burst open, trapping me inside that cave," Kael sighed, reminiscing about his past.

"But couldn't you have just walked out of the waterfall?"

Kael nodded, "A simple and reasonable solution but only if the water was normal. Sadly, it wasn't. That water... I don't know where it came from, but it could melt even your bones in seconds."

Kiona shivered just thinking about being submerged in water that could consume her completely.

She swallowed hard and asked, "Then, how did you survive?"

"I just used everything I had," Kael winked at her and stood up. "I'll tell you that later. For now, we need to practice and see if this works or not."

Most of the darts were already formed. They had made a total of twenty-five poison darts, and Kiona was working on a few more.

He picked one up, feeling it in his hands, and dipped it into one of the sacs full of green poison. He had used moss to let the poison soak in and the fangs of the snakes for the tip.

A little bit of poison seeped into his hand, but he didn't even feel it as his dragon blood neutralized it before it could do any harm.

"Seth!" he called out, and a giant lion walked out of the cave. He had sent them inside in case someone was sneaking around nearby.

They were too easy to spot because of their size.

Once Seth was out, Kael asked him to sit beside a tree. It was around fifty metres from Kael.

Then, he aimed the dart at the tree and threw it with all his force. It whistled through the air like silver lightning and struck the brown tree with a powerful impact that split the trunk in two.

Seth backed away from the splinters and turned around toward the duo. He spoke in a rather shaky voice, "I... I couldn't even sense it until it was beside me. But..."

"The sound and air movements can alert them," Kael completed his sentence for him. "That isn't a major problem I can't solve, so no worries there. Now, we just need to see how effective it is..."

Seth shivered hearing him and took a few steps backward. It was quite a funny sight to see such a big lion backing away in fear.

Both Kiona and Kael chuckled at that, as he said, "Don't worry. I just need a drop of your blood."

Seth heaved a sigh of relief and gave him a drop of his red blood.

'Hmm, Alpha, do your work,' Kael absorbed the drop of blood and asked his assistant for help.

[The Flameclaw Lions will be paralyzed for two seconds at most.]

'What about the Fanged Lions?'

[It should be around four to five seconds.]

'Heh, that is more than enough even if they have some means to counter this,' Kael was satisfied with that.

He turned toward Kiona and said, "Do you want to get prepared?"

"No! I've already waited long for this moment," Kiona's tail stood upright as her eyes turned ablaze.

"Alright. Just remember that you guys will be taking on that D-Rank monster, so be careful. I'll have my hands full with that human," Kael shrugged. "How many of them attacked you anyways?"

"Around thirty-two Fanged Lions and one Flameclaw Lion leading them but we killed seven of them," Kiona calmed herself and answered. "Do you think those four are hiding somewhere, or they went back to report the situation?"

"It could be both," Kael smiled, giving a side glance at the lioness. 'So, you've begun to see me as a reliable leader, huh.'

"Then, what do we do?" Seth asked, sitting before him.

"The plan is simple. We eliminate all the Fanged Lions before attacking the Flameclaw Lion and that human," Kael explained casually. "Pretty easy, right?"

Before waiting for their answer, he added, "I know it is, so let's go and heat some ass...I mean beat..."
