Chapter 1 - Noel Clark

Noel Clark, 35 years old. He was an orphan, his parents had died in a car accident when he was baby, he does not even remember their faces.

He grew up alone with no family or even friends. He was scrawny kid, arms as thin as twigs. Pale skin and sunken cheeks. He looked sick but he was not.

Even the doctors said he was a healthy child even though he looked like that. Because of his body and reserved personality he was bullied a lot.

He had a hard time communicating that made it hard for him to make friends. This continued he turned 10. A boy two years older than him pushed him down the stairs in school.

A week later the boy had disappeared, his body was found a week later floating in the river. Nobody ever figure out what happened to him except he looked like was rotting.

This was something Noel had never told anyone but he was born with a special ability. He could rot everything he touched if he so wished.

It was also another reason he feared having friends. He was afraid to love, to care about anyone because even though he was less than two years old at that time.

He remembers clearly what happened to his parents. The car accident was no accident at all, it was his fault. He did not mean to of course.

His mind was a bit developed for a child if that age but he was a child none the less. He got too angry for a reason he does not even remember and touched his father who was driving.

He watched as his fathers face started rotting, not it was more like it was turning to black ash. He still remembers his fathers painful scream.

It taunted him his entire life until he met her. Ever since that day he had tried to not use this ability and when did use it, it was on inanimate objects but it appeared to be weaker than then.

Another issue is he does not know how he survived. Yes his mother, his kind mother who protected the monster that killed her husband shielded his body but it still makes no sense.

He saw the pictures of the incident. There should've been no way for anybody let alone a baby to survive that but he did. That was the one mystery he had yet to solve.

When he followed that boy after school and used it on him he noticed the process of decay was slower and appeared to be more painful.

Actually the boy died of shock, the pain was too much for him. The bullying continued, he did not mind it as long they did go too far. Their words meant nothing to him.

Except for one girl whose words cut deep like a knife. She would usually use his parents to insult him and he hated her. He deeply hated her.

The day he decided to finally deal with her a new girl appeared. She had blonde hair and blue eyes. A kind smile plastered her face. She introduced herself as Tracy to the class.

She was a people's person, beautiful and popular on her first day, he expected her to act like everybody else so he ignored her. He was really surprised when she went out of her way to ask if he was okay.

Noel had learnt to read people, he had serious trust issues but her eyes held genuine concern. After that he decided not to kill the rude girl as she showed kindness to Tracy who showed kindness to him.

For now he was going to spare her. Tracy was the first person to genuinely show anything for him other than contempt or pity like most people.

It took months for him to able to talk to her. At 13 they were already friends and so was the former bully girl. Ever since Tracy arrived she had not said anything mean to him.

He learnt how to talk to people. He still looked sickly and still recieved looks of contempt or pity from people but now he cared even less about them.

Unlike before where shut everything off like a robot not he simply did not mind their words. Not because he was an emotionless robot but because he had somebody whose words meant more to him.

When they turned 16 he confessed his feeling to her, he was really nervous. He did not want to ruin what they have but ignoring his feelings was becoming harder.

He did not fully understand them nor why he was nervous to tell her. He didn't know if what he had for her was love but he did not want to lose her or be seperated from her.

He had never had a girlfriend but she had never had a boyfriend either. I've been waiting for so long for you to tell me that dummy, she said as she kissed him.

They started dating then. When they turned 22 they got married. She went to become a doctor and he followed her. For him it did not make a difference. He just wanted to be close to her.

He didn't know if he could call himself smart but he could memorize everything in a book. The reason he never got full marks was because he did not want to as that would draw attention towards himself.

The more time he spent around her the more light the world became. He worked with people in the hospital and was actually happy to help others.

Before, he really had no purpose other than her. Nothing else made him happy or feel anything at all actually. Peoples life and death meant nothing to him.

He didn't hate anybody but he didn't love anybody either. Not even Elsa who was Tracys best friend and his former bully. He really did not care about her at all.

Now he enjoyed helping others in the hospital, seeing his patients happy made him happy. He finally had emotions other than indifference for other.

When they turned 30 they had a baby girl. Tracy names Elsie to honour her godmother Elsa. He did not care, he was happy to be a father.

Now he had somebody else he loved other Tracy, life was good everything was great. He watched his daughter grow, she was a happy little angel.

The child barely cried and that made him happy, she showed more emotions than he ever did. He was glad she took after her mother.

Ever since the birth of their daughter Tracy had shined even brighter. She smile almost constantly, had food tasted atleast edible now.

She could not cook. Every meal was handled by him but ever since Elsie she had been improving. Life was really great, too great.

He was starting to get nervous, did he deserve this, this heaven, does somebody like him deserve such two wonderful people. Something felt wrong like something bad was going to happen.

Something really bad that would shatter his world apart. He became paranoid. He acted fine infront of his family but deep down he was dying.

Then it came, it was Elsies fifth birthday, he got help up late at work and his wife went to fetch their daughter at school. He was supposed to meet them at an amusement park.

They never made it there. He received a phone call telling him his wife and child were In car accident. He rushed to the hospital, his mind reeling.

When he got there he learnt both were alive, they had survived. Relief flooded him but then he was told they were in a coma. Both of them were in a coma.

The chances of survival was low. That broke him, since then he was walking around like a zombie, he went to work and back to their ward room.

They were place in a different hospital than the one he worked at so he had to drive from work to see them. Is was a monotone life on repeat.

The police that promised the other driver would be punished, he trusted them, his ability to read people had read dulled. The person who had hit them was a drunk truck driver. He was only sentenced to 6 months of community service.

He almost killed his family and was only sentenced to community service? How fair the justice system was. He was angry, he had never been this angry in his life before.

He tracked down the guy and learnt he wasn't even a truck driver. He was the son of the owner of the trucks. He had stolen a truck to boast to his friends.

The asshole never even apologized, not even once. When he found him he was laughing and drinking with his buddies again. Anger consumed him.

He did not even realise a dark aura rose from him. He stood infront of the road when the guy was driving him. He did not even say a word to him and he turned him and his entire car to black dust.

Later day he was driving towards the hospital to see them. It was dark and raining. Tracy would kill him if she found out he was driving in such conditions but she was not here right now.

His vision was foggy, he felt really hungry and sleepy, let me just close my eyes for a little bit he thought and that was the last time Noel Clark closed his eyes.

Or so he thought.
