Stevens had taken Hildr to an isolated one-room house in a small forest a few kilometers outside the city. When the house finally collapsed, Hildr finally understood what she was dealing with. Before her now stood a great beast out for blood.
The creature was humanoid and furry. It stood over seven feet tall and had bright yellow eyes. It had the head of a wolf and a body that resembled that of a man. Its fur was grey with hints of white. It was muscular and had terrible claws. The claws were so vicious that one had no problem imagining them ripping through metal, let alone flesh.
They were curved, thick, and long. They were instruments of death.
The creature stood on the land, and that was enough for the atmosphere to completely change. It snarled as it glared at Hildr.
"You are a Werewolf," Hildr cried out.
Werewolves are a kind of shapeshifter among the Otherkind. Among the shapeshifters, werewolves were among the most powerful and most known to the people. In the Lemuria Guard, the greatest army on the continent, sixty percent of the soldiers were Werewolves. This was because of their power and loyalty. They also had a desire to serve, making them the perfect soldiers.
Hildr jumped to her feet and moved into a defensive stance. She now understood why her enemy had managed to come back to life after she destroyed his heart. Even though the healing abilities of the shapeshifters were not as powerful as those of the children of the night, they were still formidable. Killing them was also almost as difficult as killing a child of night.
Stevens turned out to be a werewolf. If Hildr had known this, she would have been more aggressive when killing him the first time around. He had now transformed into his true form, and killing him would become almost impossible, especially with Hildr's current situation. In fact, it was even more likely that Hildr would be killed by this beast.
There were very few things that could be used to kill a Draugr, and these things became fewer when one considered powerful Draugr like Hildr. Still, one of these things was the venom of a special kind of shapeshifter. Right now, Hildr was praying that Stevens was not one of these special shapeshifters who had the blessing of their ancestors.
The wolf looked at Hildr with great hatred, and without saying a single word, it pounced on her with all its power. It clawed at her, intending to rip out her heart with a single blow. Hildr swallowed the pain that was moving through her body and firmed her heart to fight to the death. Since she had no other choice, she had to fight, even if there was a chance of her exploding if her Sol became more chaotic. She dodged the first blow, but the wolf was simply far too agile. Its hand bent at an odd angle and attacked backward with little difficulty. This attack ripped through Hildr's stomach. Her guts spilled out, and this was only the first blow from the beast.
Wahahahaha, Hildr cried out in pain, but she did not stop. She flipped her body through the air and slapped down as though on an invisible table in the sky.
Boom, the gravity on the beast increased by ten times, pushing it into the earth.
Hooooowllllwwooool, the beast howled, maddened by the attack. The earth exploded as the beast jumped out and reached toward Hildr in the sky.
Hildr saw this and punched herself toward the beast. She dodged the teeth that had come to rip her in half and plunged an ice dagger into the beast's left eye.
Boom, the beast punched her in the stomach and sent her flying back into the sky as it fell to the ground.
The two moved like blurs, exchanging blows without thinking about the consequences. Blood splashed through the air, and the clearing became completely red. As all this was happening, the entire world watched through the magical device that was still broadcasting. These devices were very durable, and even the collapse of the room had done nothing to stop it.
Everyone watched with their hearts beating in their mouths. The fight was so intense that everyone forgot about the identities of the people fighting. All they cared about was seeing how this ended.
After a few minutes of this, the beast howled at the sky, and even the darkness of the night seemed to part slightly. It was as though the beast wanted to summon the light of the moon to fill this place. It grabbed Hildr by the left leg and the neck and pulled.
It ripped her in half, slipping everything to the ground. The beast was covered in blood and other fluids, making it look like some monster from a time before the gods saw it fit to grant the gift of intelligence to the world.
The beast was still not sated. Its hunger for battle and its rage came together to create its current mental state. It threw the legs to the side and slammed the part with the head onto a boulder.
Hildr was shattered like porcelain.
Gasps filled the world. This was not enough to kill the Draugr, but at this moment, very few people remembered this fact.
Hildr found herself in a body that was not her own. She wore clothes from a time that had long passed and faded to history, with its facts becoming legends and myths. She felt as though there was something on her head, but before she could think about what this was and where she was, a handsome young man who looked like some kind of ancient hero came out of nowhere and cut off her head.
Just like that, she was dead.
Hildr felt herself return to her body. The process took what seemed like an eternity, and when she finally regained consciousness, she found herself standing on top of the werewolf that was lying on the ground with its head in her hands.
She was completely naked and covered in blood. She looked like a devil from legend. The beast was already dead, and yet she did not remember killing it.
