Chapter 3 - Rock bottom

For one to truly accept the situation they have found themselves in you need to do 3 things…

"Notice that the situation has changed and acknowledge it fully."

"Embrace your surroundings to the fullest."

And most importantly

"Change willingly along with your environment or suffer against it."

[Solan] found himself lost in the desert he had begun residing in after his dive from the dragon aerie. The blistering heat scorched the soles of his withering feet. Waves of heat can be seen in bending the barren, harsh landscape.

{Solan: "One foot in front of the other… One foot in front of the other" He kept repeating to himself.

[Solans] desperate attempt to keep from sleeping

He had been walking the desert for some time now. The sun has set 3 times since his arrival on the dunes. The conditions were intense. During the day it would be scorching hot. So much so that the sweat from his body would begin evaporating as soon as it started forming.

But in contrast, at night it would be freezing. Below freezing temperatures spread along the dunes as if to cover the desert in ice, yet no snow fell. The only form of nutrients that [Solan] could manage to scrounge up are the fruits of cactus plants he would find on his walk.

3 days prior -

He first found out he could eat the plants by tripping into one on accident while slipping on a seashell. The spicks from the winding cactus plant pierced his forehead. A sharp stinging pain instantly followed

{Solan: "What a foul plant! How dare you attack me!?" He snarled at the plant "...I'm losing my mind, aren't I?" He says again still talking to the cactus

After examining the plant further and plucking the thorns from his face. He notices a flower bud towards the top of the plant. It was tall, at least twice the height of [Solan]. With a quick motion he snags the flower bud from atop the plant, thoroughly examining its form. It was a white flower with pink blemishes across the middle of the petals, with large pistils poking out from the middle. It was unlike anything he had seen on the aerie. The base however was large and prickly, more so than the cactus was. Whether it was out of instinct or desperation he cracked it open, disregarding the state of his hand for doing so. His hand however was unfazed from the chop.

What flowed from the fruit was a bright pink juice, the smell entranced [Solan]. Without a moment's hesitation he sunk his fang right into the delicious fleshy mass. The delectable fruit was gone in mere moments.

After a satisfying meal he begrudgingly treaded forward.

There's nothing else he could have done

Present day -

One step at a time [Solan], ever hungrier, ever more tired, still marches along the sand dunes one after another.

He was born nude, so the harsh climate posed more of a challenge to the young dragon. He could feel all the trials of the desert hit every part of his body. It made the experience even more of a disaster.

Sandstorm after sandstorm.

No water for days except the drops stored in the scarce flora he could find

Truly a most unforgiving environment

After a couple more days in this hellscape, the ground begins to grumble with the intensity of an earthquake. The sand starts to crack and split around [Solan] as he tries to regain his balance.

This rumbling persisted for some time

Then all of a sudden, the ground ceases to shake.

Relieved, [Solan] Lets out a sigh, his sunken cheeks cracking a smile as he is happy no further conflict has transpired. But before he could take even a single step more.

BOOOOOM! ~

A massive dust of smoke sprays all around [Solan] as if to wrap him in a most devilish hug. In shock he swipes his hand, dust clearing a path as he does so. Beyond the dust cloud there stands something.

Towering, Intimidating, Strong.

That is all [Solan] could think at that moment, was how in the world he had gotten so unlucky.

The Sand worm was towering over [Solan]

His massive frame was that of a towering skyscraper. He was rough and scaly, each of its Scales wrapped around its thick frame, coating it like a layer of armor. Its 6 tusks lined the outside of its mouth as dozens upon dozens of layers of teeth lined the inside of it. Its scales fashion horns and fangs and all parts in different shapes and sizes.

It is staring down what it thinks is fresh prey. The sand worm is one of the species at the top of the food chain.

It is well revered by both man and animal.

It is getting ready to attack, eager for food.

[Solan] tired and famished, can only think of one thing when looking at this new beast.

{Solan: "Finally… A real meal… You will do nicely!"
