Chapter 4 - Jealous sister

Rosalie stroded towards her room after her conversation with her father.

Marrying Matteo wasn't something she planned to do, and she wasn't going to do it. All she wanted was to return home, take a breath, plan her revenge on both William and Stephanie and take back her place in the entertainment industry from Stephanie, which she'd left behind after marrying William.

With stiff shoulders, she decided to shower and think of something, however, a phone call interrupted her actions.

It turned out to be her mother-in-law, William's mother, Delilah.

Rosalie hesitated before answering. Slowly, she placed the phone to her ear.

"Where did you run off to?" the woman's voice shrieked through the speaker, making Rosalie wince. "Did you forget you have a husband to take care of? William called me and said you ran away without even packing your things! Do you have no shame?"

Rosalie's grip on the phone tightened. So William hadn't told his mother the truth.

She exhaled sharply before speaking. "I left because your son cheated on me," she said coldly.

"And so what?" William's mother snapped. "It's not like he killed someone! A man has needs, Rosa. Since you couldn't even keep yourself pregnant and had the nerve to murder his children, it's only right he finds a woman who can give him an heir. You're a disgrace, and you'll never be fit to be a mother."

Rosalie's breath caught in her throat.

First, it was her father, and now this. She could feel a headache coming in so she rubbed her temple in frustration.

Of all the vile things the woman had ever said to her, this was the worst.

She felt her blood boil, her vision going red with fury.

"You'd better come back here and do your duty as a wife," William's mother continued.

Rosalie let out a slow, humorless chuckle. When she spoke, her voice was nothing like the timid daughter-in-law this woman was used to.

"I already divorced your son," she said. "And you need to learn how to speak to people properly. Do you go around barking like a stray dog all the time, or is it just when you're on the phone?"

The other end of the line went silent for a moment as if Delilah was too stunned to respond.

"How dare you—"

"Stop yelling like some desperate beggar," Rosalie cut her off. "You call me a neglectful wife and mother, but let me ask you something. Since William's accident, when have you or your husband bothered to visit him? When have you ever shown any real concern for your son?"

Delilah swallowed audibly.

"Don't even bother answering," Rosalie said coldly. "I already know. And I don't have time to listen to your nonsense anymore. You'll be getting a new daughter-in-law soon, right? Let her take care of him. I couldn't care less."

With that, she ended the call, pulled out the SIM card, and snapped it in half.

She tossed the broken pieces into the trash and exhaled deeply, then dropped on the soft bed that did nothing to ease her tensed body.

Rosalie let out a huge huff and took another breath before getting up, only for a knock to hit the door.

With gritted teeth, she nearly bellowed, "Who's it?"

Sienna, Rosalie's older sister, stepped into the room, her brown eyes which she'd inherited from their father scanned the room before landing on her.

"Hi, Rose," Sienna said, a grin on her lips. "I know you must be thinking about what our father told you downstairs. I only came to check up on how you're doing. Have you taken a shower yet?"

"That was only two minutes ago. Did you think I could have possibly taken a bath in that short amount of time?" Rosalie snapped, then realized she'd sounded too harsh.

If Sienna was hurt, she didn't show it. Instead, her grin stretched further.

"What do you think will happen when you and Matteo marry? What do you think he will do on your wedding night? Do you think he might do the deed or strangle you to death?" Sienna taunted.

It didn't take long for Rosalie to understand what Sienna was trying to do.

"You were the one who told Father to get me married to Matteo, weren't you?" She questioned, rage surging in her skin. "Why would you do that?"

"Why what? Do you think I want to live the rest of my life with a killer?" Sienna mocked. "You should be thanking me for suggesting to father you got married to Matteo instead of me, that way, you can finally exact your revenge on him for everything he did to you, like killing your—"

"Shut up!" Rosalie snapped. "Everything that happened was years ago, now do me a favor and leave my room," she added, leaving no room for arguments.

Sienna smiled at her but it didn't touch her eyes. With calculated steps, she turned and stepped out of the room, but before she closed the door, she said, "You should think about it, Rose. When you marry Matteo, you can be close to him and make him pay for killing your boyfriend years ago."

Then the door closed with a soft click while Sienna's footsteps gradually faded.

Rosalie was very much aware that Sienna wasn't looking out for her or anything.

She wanted Rosalie to replace her because she despised her. Despite coming from a wealthy family, everything was not so perfect.

Rosalie had always been pampered by her family from birth because she'd always been a bright child. Even though Sienna was a few years older than her, she still managed to catch up to her in class and got better grades than her. Ever since then, Sienna despised seeing Rosalie happy.

When it came to birthdays, Rose got better presents and birthday cakes, which only fueled Sienna's hatred towards her. It was one of the reasons she had to leave for another city. Sienna and Matteo. They wanted to ruin her life.

She was back but unfortunately, the hatred was still there.
