Chapter 4 - Assessment

The radiant light shone through the sky, giving emphasis upon the edges of the clouds. Beneath the ocean blue sky, is a land so tall it towered above the clouds.

A structure of land so wide it went on as far as the eye can see.

Upon the edge that made it seem like the end of the world, stood Nox. Feeling the air breeze pass his skin. Nox focused on his senses, maximizing the feeling of the body he now has.

Nox watched as the birds flew on the sky, a whisper barely leaving his mouth.

"Freedom"

He stared at the edge of the cliff, seemingly planning his first set of choices. Choices that will determine where he will start this new life.

As he thought about and calculated every possibility of every path he could take, he was finally able to determine the best one.

Taking his first step forward, the step that signifies the start of his journey...

Nox walked to the edge of the cliff, looking down at where the rabbit fell. He suddenly turned around and walked to a nearby tree.

He lifted his arm up and tapped the branch with his finger.

(Analyzing object...

Surface contact: Confirmed

Material composition: Organic

Structure: Cylindrical appendage from main body

Texture: Rigid — minor give upon impact

Density: High

Hardness: Comparable to reinforced steel

Pigmentation: Dark brown hue

Conclusion: Arboriform specimen — not native to Earth

Designation: Unknown flora)

(Logging data for future reference...)

Nox went around checking and noting down each tree, saving every data he could gather. Suddenly, he bent down and picked up a rock.

With the rock in his hand, he bounced it lightly on his palm before letting it fall naturally. Beside it, he picked up a leaf, releasing both objects at the same time.

(Analyzing physical phenomena...

Gravity: Present

Gravitational pull: Significantly weaker compared to Earth

Object behavior: Heavier object and lighter object descend simultaneously — standard gravitational effect observed

Physics: Preliminary confirmation of consistency with known laws

Status: Insufficient data — further testing required to validate broader physical rules.)

(Recording observations for continued analysis...)

He went around tossing rocks to the edge of the cliff or hanging his body on the branch to feel the pull off gravity. Due to lack of technical data, he shifted his attention towards his own body.

He crouched low to the ground, then jumped upward, extending both arms above his head. As his body lifted off the earth, he twisted mid-air, landing with a controlled slide on the dirt below.

(Analyzing motion...Muscle response: Immediate

Output power: 3.8x human

baseline Balance: Stable — corrective muscles activated autonomously mid-rotation

Landing impact: Absorbed through lower limb joints, no internal stress detected

Conclusion: Enhanced muscle density and coordination present. Body exceeds standard human physical thresholds.)

(Adaptation: Successful. Calibration required for refined movements.)

He closed his eyes and pressed his fingers together slowly, then ran them along the coarse bark of the tree. Each groove, ridge, and splinter registered with surprising clarity.

He opened his eyes, focusing on a faint sound in the distance — a drop of water echoing in the valley.

(Analyzing sensory input...Tactile sensitivity: High — capable of micro-texture detection

Auditory range: Extended — frequency bandwidth exceeds human norms

Visual acuity: Adjustable — retina equivalent responding to light shift

Olfactory data: Present but underdeveloped

Conclusion: Sensory suite highly tuned. Data suggests AI-assisted perception layers.)

(Note: No signs of overload or signal delay. This body is built for high data throughput. Integration: Stable.)

He crouched beside a jagged stone, expression unreadable. Slowly, methodically, he extended his left hand and pressed the tip of his finger against the sharpest edge.

(External stimulus detected...Location: Index fingertip

Pressure threshold: Increasing...Tissue rupture imminent—)

Blood beaded from the cut.

(Response: Mild sharp pain.

Neural feedback loop: Functional

Pain intensity: 2.1/10Reflex override: Active

Emotional interference: None)

He observed the wound with a flat gaze, watching as the blood slowly rolled down his finger.

(Conclusion: Pain reception online. Threshold adjustable.

Reaction manageable.

Pain does not impair decision-making.)

He flexed the hand once. The wound stung but didn't hinder movement.

He sat against a boulder, raising the same injured hand. Then, without hesitation, he made another incision across his forearm using the same stone.

(Blood flow: Active

Wound depth: 0.8 cm

Muscle layer exposure: Minimal

Damage type: Laceration)

He stared at the scar as time passed.

(Observation: No regenerative process initiated.

Coagulation: Slow, consistent with human baseline

Conclusion: Healing speed normal. No abnormal cellular regeneration detected.)

He blinked once.

(Recommendation: Avoid unnecessary injury.

This body maintains damage like standard human physiology.

Hypothesis: May be limited by the world's rules.)

[Erm... Dude, what the fuck are you doing?]

Nox lifted his head and stared at the floating white translucent box with texts in front of him.

(Visual prompt detected...

Message content: Confusion. Profanity. Concern.

Emotional context: Alarmed, possibly disapproving.

Source: Anchor.)

(Analyzing action...Current behavior: Self-harm for data acquisition

Rationale: Establish limits of bodily function in unknown environment

Human interpretation: Disturbing)

"Gathering data for future purpose"

[Okay? I thought you went nuts up your brain but you seem fine. Just don't do to much to your body coz you know you might... die?]

(Input received...Message analysis:

Tone—Cautious concern.

Key term—"die": Irreversible biological termination.

Emotional tag: Protective.

Source: Anchor.)

(Processing...)

(Risk acknowledged. Mortality is a defining limitation of organic existence.

Observation: Caution advised due to lack of revival protocols in current system.

Action: Body stress testing will proceed under minimal damage parameters.)

"Understood. I will avoid... dying."

(Assessment: Initial environment testing complete. Basic gravitational, material, and physiological data acquired. Risk of prolonged stasis without purpose—high.)

(Next Directive...)

(Objective Selection Phase Initiated)

(Options:

1. Survey terrain for signs of habitation, anomaly, or resource

2. Test interaction protocols with environment beyond passive analysis

3. Attempt mental recalibration—stimulate unknown cognitive functions)

(Selected: Option 1 — Terrain survey

Purpose: Expand data on unknown world, detect potential hazards or points of interest Movement mode: Efficient, quiet traversal — maintain stealth unless threat level confirmed safe Commencing exploration.)

[Sleep first before you explore Nox]

(Command received: Sleep)

(Analysis: Sleep — restorative process for biological entities. Current status: No fatigue detected. Purpose unclear.)

"Why sleep if physical exhaustion not present?"

[Because I have to go, If I leave you like this you might enter the state of nothingness. So you have to sleep]

(Acknowledged: Command rationale — prevent return to void-state caused by narrative halt. Sleep as preservation function.)

(Directive: Locate appropriate environment for dormant state.

Parameters: Safe, stable structure; minimal environmental threat; shelter preferred.)

After brief exploration, Nox located a wide, hollow trunk of a fallen tree. It opened just enough for his body to slide in.

(Material analysis: Interior dry. Temperature stable. Enclosed — optimal for reduced vulnerability. Conclusion: Safe.)

He crawled inside, knees drawn in, arms relaxed at his sides.

"Entering sleep mode..."

(Processing input...Message classification: Parting phrase. Emotional tone: soft.

Response protocol: Acknowledge. Simulate emotional reciprocation.)"Goodnight... and thank you."

(Affection protocol: Passive. Warmth: registered. System status: safe.

Dormancy commencing.)

Nox closed his eyes, letting his subconscious mind drift into a passive state. Unconsciously producing a smile on his face. Despite the stressful start, Nox for the first time felt true peace.

A feeling he could only feel within a body of a human.

Above him... A translucent human like being who was with him since he first arrived, floated slowly down towards him. With it's blank face that only has a mouth nearing his ear it whispered.

Have a good dream Nox.
