Chapter 18 - 18

"Don't worry too much. Your leg injury isn't serious. You'll be walking again after a while.

Even if you can't, you still have me, don't you?

In this life, aside from life and death, nothing else really matters. Living happily is more important than anything." With her body and the spiritual spring water, how could it not heal?

Freya directly picked up the slightly gloomy Brian in a princess carry. Under the stunned and speechless gazes of the others, she easily carried him over to the stone bench under the big tree and set him down.

"Why are you all looking at me like that? I'm really strong. I could carry two of him without a problem!" Freya said casually.

"Have you always been this strong since you were a kid?

I didn't expect you to not only be skilled but also have such great strength.

With strength like that, it's a waste for you not to be in the army! Such a waste of talent!

Are you interested in joining? I could—"

Brian didn't even care about the awkwardness of being carried by his wife anymore. He was just amazed by her strength.

"I don't want to join the army. It's too exhausting.

I just want to eat, sleep, and be lazy!"

Freya immediately cut off his fantasy, pouring cold water on him to shut it down.

"Ah, that's really a pity. Are you sure you won't reconsider? The army has great benefits, you—"

"I'm your wife. Don't try to trick me with your recruitment lines. I don't want to suffer and work hard. My sense of duty isn't that high. Let's drop this topic.

Besides, my background isn't good. The army wouldn't accept me anyway!

I'll tell you about my family later. I'll need your help!" Freya gave Brian a warning glance when he looked like he still wanted to convince her.

"Okay, I got excited and got carried away, haha!" Brian rarely showed this kind of youthful energy. He scratched his head and smiled foolishly.

He was used to spotting talent and wanting to bring them into the military, to serve the country.

"Food's here, make way, don't get burned!"

Dan walked over with a big steaming pot of hot soup.

Sister Xiao brought out bowls and chopsticks. Sister Lan carried a bowl of cold mixed wild vegetables. Madam Hua came over with a dark, steaming tray. Freya looked closer—it was cornbread.

Freya… had too high of an expectation for the meal and forgot how scarce the supplies were in this era.

She needed to go hunting tomorrow to get some fresh meat and take out some rice and flour.

Even when she was begging in her past life, she didn't eat such miserable food, let alone after she built a small gang and lived well.

"I'll serve the food." Sister Fang came out just as everything was ready. She didn't even wash her hands before dragging her kids over to sit.

"Go wash your face and hands." Freya looked at the three of them, dirty from head to toe, and couldn't bear to watch.

"Okay, okay, let's go wash up quickly before we eat." Sister Fang smiled on the surface, but cursed Freya in her heart for being picky and annoying.

By the time everyone sat down, it was already completely dark. They had to eat in the dim light.

Freya noticed her own bowl—slightly chipped—was filled with the thickest porridge. Except for Sister Fang, her son Zheni, and herself, everyone else had watery porridge that was nearly see-through.

The men each got two cornbreads, but Brian only had one. The women each had one. The three girls and Tiedan each had half. Sister Fang, trying to win Freya over, gave her two.

The wild vegetables were available to everyone.

Sister Fang didn't know that Freya and Brian had already decided not to divorce. Otherwise, she definitely wouldn't have dared to give Brian just one cornbread.

Freya… no wonder everyone looked so skinny like monkeys.

She looked around at everyone eating happily and was a bit confused. Was it really that tasty?

She took a sip of the porridge—coarse and scratchy. She couldn't swallow it. She didn't even bother trying the cornbread and just ate a few bites of the wild vegetables. The taste was okay.

"I'm not very hungry, you all go ahead and eat."

She gave one cornbread to Mr. Guo and one to Madam Hua.

She gave half a bowl of her corn porridge to Sister Xiao, and the rest she shared with the twin sisters and Dan.

Even though it was a bit dark, she could still see the gratitude on their faces.

"Thank you, auntie!"

Dan was especially grateful. He was just a burden to the family, and getting even a bite to eat showed the kindness of the Xiao family. This year, he was already planning to move out and find a place to live on his own. He couldn't keep shamelessly staying with the Xiao family anymore.

"You did a lot today, and helped with the cooking. You should eat more," Freya said calmly.

She had a good impression of this child, honest and hardworking. He had been busy in the kitchen all afternoon and didn't complain once.

"Are you okay? Not feeling well?" Brian asked softly. He didn't mind that Freya gave food to others and not him. Instead, he was concerned about her health.

"I'm fine, just not hungry." Freya winked at him, signaling not to worry.

"That's good." Brian saw that she really seemed okay and continued eating. Freya, from time to time, picked up some wild vegetables and placed them in his bowl.

"Freya, no, Comrade Freya, does this mean you're not planning to divorce Brian anymore?" Madam Hua asked cautiously. Freya didn't like being called by her name.

Everyone looked up at her when they heard this.

"Mom, I was foolish before and thought wrong. From now on, I'll live well with Brian and won't get a divorce."

"That's good, that's good. You two living well together is better than anything."

Madam Hua lowered her head and kept eating, trying to hide her teary eyes. Her daughter-in-law gave her cornbread.

She secretly glanced at the two of them and felt relieved seeing the way Freya looked at her son. So gentle. She really doesn't plan to divorce now, does she?

Even though she didn't know why her daughter-in-law had changed so much today, as long as she treated her son well and didn't want a divorce, that was enough.

Everyone else also lowered their heads and continued eating. What they were thinking inside, nobody knew, and Freya didn't care either.

After dinner, Sister Lan quietly went to wash the dishes.

Sister Fang took the children back to her room and brought food into the room for Brother Bigui.

Freya carried Brian back to their room. Though everyone had seen it once already, they were still surprised.

"Auntie is so strong!"

"Auntie carrying uncle, amazing!"

Without the two troublemakers from Second Brother's family, the twin sisters were much livelier. They followed Freya into the room, clapping and cheering.

"Shh, don't shout. Your uncle is shy." Freya put Brian on the bed and signaled the three kids to be quiet.

"Ahem, don't talk nonsense, they're just kids." Brian looked at Freya helplessly. The little bit of shame he had felt was gone because of her words.

"Sis, we'll head out. You and big brother should rest early."

Sister Xiao sensibly pulled the two little girls to leave.

"Wait, don't go yet." Freya opened a big wooden box, pretending to take something out, and pulled out three boiled eggs.

She gave each of them one egg.

These eggs were ones she had bought in large quantities before the apocalypse. She hired a five-star chef to make boiled eggs, tea eggs, marinated eggs, and tiger-skin eggs. Even after ten years in the post-apocalyptic world, she still had plenty left.

She still remembered the shocked expression on the chef's face, like "Are you serious?" But the food really did taste amazing.

"Take these and eat, but it's not for free. Tomorrow the three of you need to help me cut pig grass, enough for one work point's worth."

"Auntie, we'll work hard cutting grass," said Zhad, the more lively twin, excitedly.
