Chapter 29 - 29

"Alright, you done fighting?

Then it's my turn to speak. The stuff was bought with my man's money. I can give it to whoever I want. From now on, Big Sister-in-law is in charge of the kitchen. If you don't like it, tough luck!

Anyone who dares stir up trouble during mealtime again, they can ask my whip if it agrees!"

Freya warned coldly. With a loud clang, she slapped her whip down on the stone bench, and it shattered into pieces.

"Wow, Sister-in-law, you're amazing!" Cali's eyes sparkled.

"Wifey, does your hand hurt?" Brian anxiously pulled her hand over to check it.

Everyone else… sobbing… they gave in.

The husband and wife lying on the ground, panting from exhaustion, huddled together shivering. They could only nod—they couldn't do anything else.

Oh mama, if that whip landed on their heads, their brains would've splattered.

So, the morning mess finally came to an end.

In the forest, Freya's basket already held two rabbits she knocked unconscious, two others whose skulls she accidentally cracked, and one chicken with a bloody head.

She was holding a metal detector, walking around and scanning the area.

Yesterday, during a casual chat with Officer Hanni, she accidentally heard that Officer Duiz had arrested quite a few spies in the Red Bull Brigade area.

Why would so many spies come to such a remote and poor place?

Turns out, the military had stationed troops here for a while in the past. There must be something valuable left behind in the mountains. Otherwise, why would so many keep coming?

The safest place to hide something is in the mountains.

So after breakfast, she sent Brian off to work and came into the mountains to hunt for treasure.

She'd scavenged quite a few detectors back in the apocalypse, and now they were finally useful.

Freya was just feeling proud of her foresight when her ears twitched slightly. Her eyes lit up, and her heart started pounding. Dog couple sneaking around.

She never expected to find free drama deep in the woods. She had to watch. Quietly, she crept closer to the sound.

"Mr. Ge, you promised me. I helped you gather information in the village, and you'd take me away to live on an island.

I'm already yours now, and I'm pregnant with your baby.

Please take me away now. Look, my belly's getting bigger, and I don't even dare go outside. I'm scared someone in the village will notice I'm pregnant.

If they find out, it won't just be me—our baby will be in danger too.

Mr. Ge, let me go with you, please? My baby and I want to be with you all the time."

Freya pushed aside some branches and saw a fair-skinned, delicate-looking woman lying on a burly man's chest, constantly teasing him.

Tsk tsk… wasn't that the delicate widow living near Sunyue's house, Widow Lina?

They said her husband was an orphan and a soldier who died during a mission a year ago. She became a widow at 23.

Because of her husband's service, the village treated her kindly. Plus, with the compensation money, she lived quite comfortably.

She also had a good reputation in the village, always kind and gentle.

Who would've thought? This sweet-talking, soft-spoken woman had such a dramatic side.

She didn't like her own country's land and wanted to make her mark somewhere else.

Freya couldn't help shaking her head. People really can't be judged by appearances.

"Lina, I wish I could keep you and the baby with me every moment.

Here's the plan: go back and wait for my message.

The thing we're looking for has already been found. Two days from now, meet me here at 8 a.m."

"My superior and teammates will come over and help me secretly move the stuff out. Then we'll leave this lousy place together and head to the island to enjoy good food and drinks!"

The strong man Mr. Ge, whose real name is Jinbao, was already completely bewitched by the young widow. He eagerly agreed to take her with him.

"Mr. Ge, you're so nice!

I have nothing to give back to you, so I'll offer myself to you. Let me serve you well right now!" Widow Lina passionately kissed Jinbao on the lips.

The two started tearing off each other's clothes, and what followed was a not-suitable-for-kids action scene.

[2000 words omitted here]

Freya couldn't be bothered to watch the live version of an adult film. She quickly slipped into her space, lay down on her big bed, cut a piece of cake, and made herself a cup of coffee, enjoying it leisurely.

Too bad only she could enter her space. Otherwise, she could've brought Brian with her, and they wouldn't have to suffer from the heat at night. Freya thought about it with a bit of regret.

After she was full and satisfied, Freya came out of the space.

At that moment, the pair of lovebirds were still clinging to each other, reluctant to part.

Two more minutes passed. Freya was already feeling a little impatient when Jinbao finally turned around and left.

Freya immediately followed him, heading deep into the mountains.

The path was like a maze, twisting and turning in all directions. After about thirty minutes, deep in the forest, Jinbao stopped under a big tree.

Freya couldn't help but feel lucky she had a great sense of direction. Otherwise, she would've definitely gotten lost.

Jinbao looked around cautiously, checking that nothing seemed out of place. Then he approached the huge tree, which was so thick it would take three adults holding hands to circle it.

He lightly knocked on the trunk three times, paused for about two seconds, then quickly knocked four more times.

With a soft creaking sound, a wooden door slowly opened at the spot he knocked on.

Jinbao glanced around again before bending slightly and carefully slipping into the tree. Then he pulled the door shut behind him.

Freya stayed hidden, watching everything unfold, and thought to herself:

So there's a hidden passage under this tree? This must be where the secret base is.

The stuff Jinbao talked about was probably here too. This could be a huge gain!

If she caught them in two days and handed over the treasure, that would be enough credit to clear the names of the original host's family, right?

She waited patiently for a while, but no one came out.

Freya cautiously walked up to the big tree and circled it once. Seeing nothing unusual, she quietly left.

Better safe than sorry. She wasn't going to mess things up by being careless.

"Whoa, a roe deer?" Freya wiped the corner of her mouth, picked up a palm-sized stone from the ground, and threw it at the deer.

She happily ran over and stored the unconscious deer into her space.

She remembered how Brian had warned her again and again to return early, worried she might be in danger in the mountains.

Freya checked the time on her watch. It was only 10:30. Still early. She could hunt a bit more before heading back!

Her steps were light, and her eyes sharp, moving through the woods like a skilled hunter without making a sound.

Suddenly, two wild rabbits darted out of the bushes. Freya quickly hit one in the hind legs with a stone. The injured rabbit couldn't move, and she rushed over, picked it up, and tossed it into her space.

Rabbits reproduced fast. If the kids raised them, they could often eat tasty bunny meat. So exciting!

Thinking about spicy rabbit head, stir-fried rabbit cubes, and roast rabbit made her drool.

She kept moving and spotted a wild chicken foraging.

She crept close, then suddenly leaped forward and pinned it to the ground. Then she tied it up with a rope and tossed it into her space. Since her basket only held the dead ones, this live chicken could be saved for tomorrow.

Looking forward to a meaty lunch, Freya hummed a happy tune, hopping and skipping down the mountain toward home.
