Chapter 1 - All that matters

Fear your thoughts, your conscience, your reasoning. What appears to be might not be. Devastating indeed is betrayal,a stunning quality of homo sapiens. Life was a bed of roses when you couldn't speak suddenly it turned to an alternate reality, bitter but true.

"I feel like you're being too naive", Marie spoke in a mono-tone,"maybe he isn't so bad afterall…"

"Or maybe he is",Charlotte chuckled.

Who knows if this is all out of revenge or love?

Phone beeping like always even though Charlotte was right in front she didn't bother, she never did. After the 20th call in a row she finally picked up.

"Charlotte what is this behavior?",he paused and then continued, "we don't have time to play games, first you rejected going out with me to select your own wedding dress and now you're not even seeing the pictures I'm sending." It was obvious he was annoyed but couldn't lose his calm.

"These are not my type, I'd rather wear PJs because comfort comes first."

She had that devilish grin on her face when she said that.

"Are you out of your mind-" before he could finish, she interjected and cut the call.

Somebody knocked the door, of course it was her mother.

"Sweetheart, what are you up to?",she interrogated in her usual soft tone but somehow it was softer than ever.

"Nothing, why do you ask?" she sighed and sat down besides her daughter, looking straight into her big olive eyes. Those eyes she inherited from her father Would make her heart ache every time knowing he's no more…

"Ryan has talked to me about your standoffishness-"

"He deserves it."she spoke in a straightforward tone and further added, "even worse." Her mother argued what was the point of being so rude to him when all he asked was about her wedding dress. She was being unnecessarily harsh with her fiance but this was just a trailer of what was unleashing,an impending tragedy.

Walking back home after an eight hour shift was Charlotte's daily routine. She was busy staring at her phone waiting for her cab to arrive when a familiar black car stopped right in front of her. The windows gradually moved down and the familiar husky voice she once thought was sweet echoed.

"Cherry get in the car." Yes it was Ryan who else could it be? She denied which was very much foreseen.

"I'm not asking, I'm telling you." He spoke in a very authoritative way but she wasn't moved. He stared at her in disbelief for a hot minute and then scoffed. If it doesn't work out one way try another way.

He gradually extricated himself from his automobile and approached her, forcibly pressing her against the vehicle's exterior. He was endeavoring to project the energy of the protagonist; however, she exhibited no signs of trepidation—instead, she applauded his audacity.

"Mon Chéri, you are aware of my affection for you…"

Upon hearing these words, she erupted into maniacal laughter, which elicited a sense of unease in him as his grip on her intensified. She forcibly wrenched his hand away and extracted her mobile device, the sight that greeted his eyes provoking a cold sweat to bead upon his brow.

That venerable patriarch undoubtedly possesses a flourishing enterprise and substantial wealth at his disposal; hence, the sole recourse I can contemplate to usurp his dominion entails his elimination. After all, he is merely the progenitor of a daughter, whose potential for exerting influence appears tenuous at best—relying solely on ephemeral affection and insincere solicitousness, she finds herself in a woefully disadvantaged predicament.

Ryan's eyes widened; it was almost like his soul left his Body. She laughed lightly, while he was filled with fear. He realized she was unpredictable and might do anything, but would she actually go that far? Would she wound his delicate ego and ruin him completely?

"You…you wouldn't dare honey." It was all that left his mouth.

He approached her and tried to convince her this was a lie but she wasn't buying his excuses.

"I swear Charlotte I would call off the wedding. Why are you trusting a mere piece of text when I'm right in front of you?" It was obvious he was fuming with anger.

"Go ahead." Upon hearing this he groaned. His mind wasn't working he wasn't sure what to do but for her she was vulnerable. He snatched her phone and slammed it on the road as it shattered to pieces before her eyes.

"Problem solved cherry, now let's have lunch together-"

She picked up a nearby rock and threw it on his car so hard that the windshield shattered then she spoke.

"You were scared of it weren't you?if it isn't true, was this necessary?"

He gulped as her cab arrived and as she walked away he kept cursing at her.

She knew she made a mistake by showing him those texts right now. Her head started hurting really bad. She lost her phone and the evidence. That guy is not a liar, he's the definition of lies. She wasn't in a position to buy a new phone right now. Her salary was late, she grew up affluent and never had to face any shortages her father would have everything ready for her before she could even realize what's missing but now that he's gone she doesn't feel as empowered and protected. She banged her wrist onto the backside of the driver's seat.

"Miss if I may ask, are you fine?"

She nodded and wiped her tears away.

"I know it's hard to trust people but I would be honored to help",he asked a final time stopping the car as she reached her destination. Her legs staggering and her head heavy she got out of the cab.

Dinner was ready as she walked into her house. The familiar smell of potato stew that the whole family used to eat together…at least when they were a whole family. The aroma was just so nostalgic. She plopped down on the sofa. Her mother didn't notice her at first because she was too busy plating down everything. Her head was heavy and she couldn't think straight. She wanted to dominate him but instead she made a fool out of herself now how will she get back to him. She was lost in her deep thoughts.

"Darling, where were you? I called you so many times," her mother spoke in a gentle tone while pouring fresh squeezed orange juice in a glass.

"My phone broke and yeah…"

She found herself in a predicament, unable to confide in her mother about the phone's unfortunate demise. However, her mother's persistent inquiries compelled her to fabricate an explanation. She concocted a story, claiming that the device had slipped from her grasp while she was ambulatory, and she had subsequently taken it to a mobile repair shop, only to discover that it was beyond repair. Either way,

Peace is all that matters right now.
