Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Scaring the Fool Is Quite Fun!

Evah spoke at a leisurely pace, sharing what he knew about the Antigonus family. His knowledge came from two sources: details from the original Lord of Mysteries novel and inherited memories from "Evah Zoroast," a descendant of the Zoroast family. Even if the family had fallen on hard times, they still retained some knowledge about the "Three Families".

However, mindful of his current persona, Evah avoided mentioning anything about Beyonder pathways. He gave a general overview of the Antigonus family before pausing with a hesitant expression.

"What's wrong? Is there something inconvenient to share?" Klein, noticing Evah's hesitation, asked quietly.

"It's not exactly inconvenient, but the rest involves legends and mystical matters. Honestly, their credibility isn't very high," Evah said, pouring himself another cup of coffee. "According to some rumors, members of the Antigonus family seemed to possess strange powers, possibly tied to their beliefs."

"Could the Antigonus family have worshipped some evil god?" Klein asked instinctively, thinking of the deaths caused by the Antigonus Notebook.

Azik, though silent, visibly perked up with interest.

"Probably an evil god. There's very little documentation on this, and I only found some records about the Antigonus family's beliefs after digging through a lot of materials," Evah continued, his expression unchanged. "They didn't seem to worship just one evil god. According to those records, the Antigonus family revered two entities, one called the Mother of the Sky and another called the Fool. I'm not sure if these are two aspects of the same evil god, but based on the descriptions, they seem to be distinct beings."

At that moment, Klein felt as if he'd been struck by lightning. Just yesterday, at the Tarot Meeting, he had chosen "The Fool" as the name for his divine persona. Even earlier, when he'd gone to a market and accidentally performed a divination, the result had also been "The Fool." And now, to hear that the Antigonus family worshipped an entity called "The Fool"… Despite having only been in this world for a few days and lacking a full understanding of its mystical forces, Klein couldn't help but feel a chill.

This was too coincidental, too coincidental to the point of being unnerving.

Fortunately, Klein had mentally prepared himself beforehand, and his acting skills were solid. He managed to keep his expression steady, avoiding a visible reaction.

But his subtle change didn't escape Evah, whose observational skills rivaled those of a Spectator. Having deliberately brought up the topic to tease Mr. Fool, Evah took a discreet sip of coffee, feeling a slight digestion of his "Mischief-maker" potion. Scaring Klein and amusing himself clearly aligned with the acting principles of a Fun-Seeker.

Then, Evah heard Azik murmur, almost unconsciously, "No, He cannot yet be called the Fool."

Hm? Did he remember something? Evah glanced at Azik, who was frowning slightly and rubbing his temple, as if in pain.

"Mr. Azik, do you know something about this Fool?" Evah asked, feigning curiosity while adding with concern, "You don't seem to be feeling well. Are you getting a headache?"

"Just an old ailment," Azik said vaguely, brushing off the headache. He shook his head and continued, "I don't know much about this Fool. It's just… I once read in some ancient texts that the ancestor of the Antigonus family couldn't be called the Fool—only half a Fool at most."

But I didn't say the Fool was an ancestor of the Antigonus family… Evah blinked but tactfully didn't press further. "I see. Maybe the records I read were exaggerated. You know how it is—followers always tend to embellish their deities."

Though Klein was intensely curious about the Fool, he could tell Azik didn't want to dwell on the topic. Suppressing his questions, he turned to Jack Jones. "Jack, do you know anything else about this Fool?"

Evah shook his head, hesitating again. "I don't know much about the Fool, but if you're really interested, I can look into it. No guarantees I'll find anything, though."

"Thank you, Jack. I owe you one," Klein said earnestly. He desperately wanted to learn more about the Fool, given its uncanny connection to him.

"Hey, no need to be so formal. It's a small thing. Aren't we friends? If you really feel bad, just treat me to a meal sometime!" Evah waved it off with a grin.

"Deal. I'll definitely treat you," Klein said, mentally checking his wallet. Though it was nearly empty, he could afford a meal for Evah.

"It's almost dinnertime," Azik interjected gently, ever the dependable adult. "How about I treat you both this time? We can celebrate Klein's new home and Jack's new life in Tingen."

"Sounds great! Thanks for the treat, Mr. Azik," Evah, ever sociable, replied with a bright smile.

"Thank you, Mr. Azik," Klein added, unable to refuse after Evah's agreement.

The trio happily headed out, following Azik to a decent restaurant where they enjoyed a pleasant dinner. Since they all had work the next day, no one drank. After the meal, they parted ways to head home.

Evah, however, didn't go home. He watched the two leave, exhaled softly, and smirked.

"As expected, Azik's favor is easy to gain in his amnesiac state…" Evah stepped into an empty alley, lightly tugged at the air, and a faint shadow emerged, merging into his body.

"I can probably borrow power equivalent to a Sequence 7 Spirit Medium. Thanks to my stronger spirituality, I can sustain it for at least one fight," Evah assessed, summarizing his gains.

His efforts to bond with Azik had clearly paid off. Azik's favorability toward him was now around 20–30—not high enough, but typical for casual friends. Achieving this after just a second meeting left Evah quite satisfied.
