Chapter 10: From Vengeance to Purpose
Location: Warehouse District, New York Outskirts
Time: Minutes after Chapter 9
The closer I got to the container, the louder the muffled voices became.
Cries. Screams. Pleading.
Then—
"Stop screaming, you filthy shits!"
A woman's voice. Sharp. Cold.
I froze.
Those voices—the desperation in them—hit me like a gut punch.
That tone, that fear, that faint thread of hope in their cries...
Human trafficking.
I took a step back.
"Why do I care?" I thought, trying to shrug it off. My mission was done. The goons who ruined Leo's life were taken. I had my revenge. This wasn't part of the plan.
But the screams wouldn't stop.
The desperation.
The hope.
The same kind of hope I saw in that little boy's eyes… right before I died for him.
Before transmigrating, I wasn't much different from the old Leo—a rebellious Gen Z kid, drowning in noise, selfies, and distractions. We were the kind who'd scroll past headlines like this and go, "Damn, that sucks," then move on.
But deep down… I always held onto one thing.
Something Uncle Ben once said.
"With great power comes great responsibility."
That quote stuck. It's why I jumped in front of that truck to save that boy.
It's why I got this second chance.
I can be selfish. I can be ruthless. I can even bend the rules when I want to.
But who am I… to ignore those cries?
Who am I… to decide the fate of the innocent?
Will I be able to sleep tonight knowing I turned away?
No.
Hell no.
I have to stop this.
And I will.
I reached for my compact laser cutter and sliced through the container's lock in seconds.
As the doors creaked open—bam!
A woman burst out with a flying kick.
I shifted just enough—her foot passed by inches.
I retaliated.
A sharp chop to the neck.
She hit the ground. Out cold.
Another came rushing from behind.
Quick step. Thud. Bam.
She dropped too.
Inside the container, I found them—terrified girls, eyes wide, huddled together.
I knelt and undid their restraints.
One of them—bruised, but awake—whispered, "Thank you…"
I didn't answer. Just took the phone off one of the unconscious traffickers and dialed the nearest precinct. Using a voice modulator, I disguised my tone.
"There are unconscious victims at this location. Two traffickers are tied up. Send help."
Click.
Call ended. No trace.
As I turned to leave, I heard footsteps behind me.
The girl who had spoken—the one whose screams I'd heard—was following me.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
She looked up at me.
Calm. Determined.
"I'm coming with you."
"Why?" I asked again.
No answer. Just silence. She kept walking beside me.
We reached the truck—the one where my five prey were still unconscious in the back.
I got in. She took the passenger seat without hesitation.
I glanced at her.
"What's your name?"
She looked out the window.
"Domino," she said softly.
Just one name, I noted.
Mysterious.
I didn't press.
Meanwhile… somewhere beyond the stars…
R.O.B. watched the entire scene play out on a cosmic screen.
He leaned back, a satisfied grin spreading across his face.
"I knew I chose the right one… hehehe."
