Chapter 65 - 63: The interview

Walking out, I was immediately surrounded by a group of reporters.

"Sir, sir, what are your comments on this situation?"

"How did you manage to come to an agreement with this terrible maniac killer?"

"What are you feeling now?"

"Sir, with your actions, you were able to save 119 people, do you have anything to say about this?"

"How did you manage to persuade the Joker to surrender to the authorities?"

"What can you say about the dead?"

"Do you feel like a hero?"

The journalists bombarded me with questions, shoving microphones in my face. All this was accompanied by flashes of cameras. They really pestered me... It seems that the guests who left the nightclub not only called the police, but also managed to tell the reporters in all colors what happened.

Among all the journalists present, I could make out Vicky Vale's figure. Unlike her colleagues, she wasn't trying to squeeze her way towards me so eagerly to interview me, but simply looked at me silently.

I noticed that her eyes were red and her makeup was carelessly smudged. It looked like she had been crying not long ago… Was it because of me? Did I make her cry? Oh, what should I do now…

Although I understand that I didn't have much of a choice, I had to do something to save not only my life, but also the lives of the guests present this evening.

I was still upset by how this situation affected Vicky's emotional state. I'll have to solve this problem!

"Excuse me, but I can't answer your questions now. I just came out of the epicenter of a dangerous event, and the thoughts in my head are chaotically scattered. I can't think of anything right now, forgive me," I tried to break free from the reporters' circle, but it wasn't as easy as I thought.

Fortunately, some brave police officers came to the rescue and were able to pull the press away from my modest person. James Gordon greeted me, and Renee Montoya came after him with her partner Harvey Bullock.

"Alex, how are you?" the commissioner asked me. But I didn't have time to answer his question, as I was interrupted by a portion of hugs from my detective friend. "Fool! How did you even get there, and why did you go straight for trouble?! Didn't you understand who the Joker was?" the girl began to scold me.

"Renee, calm down, nothing terrible happened. And besides, if I hadn't been there, it's not known how it would have all ended."

"What are you talking about? And how are you any different from the others, if you had such stupid thoughts?" the detective asked sarcastically.

"The Joker, as it turned out, is a big fan of my work, in particular the work - "It". He was not going to kill me, but was ready to deal with the rest of the guests. I was able to persuade him to surrender, promising to write another book for him ... As you can see, I saved the situation," I outlined an approximate situation.

Three police officers looked at me, gaping.

"You practically bargained with this madman for the release of hostages, and voluntary surrender ... With a book?" Not believing in the rationality of his thoughts, James decided to clarify.

"Well, yes!" And again silence permeated the place….

"Okay, tell me in detail what exactly happened inside, and you can go free," Gordon sighed.

Having done everything that was required of me, I took out my phone and wrote to Vicki to wait for me at the exit from the parking lot.

"Hey, Alex, are you sure you're okay?" Renee asked with great concern in her voice.

"Of course," I answered with a casual smile. "I just need to rest a little."

"Maybe I should give you a ride home? I can keep you company if you want to talk, or... Say, have a drink."

"No need, my car is nearby. Besides, my girlfriend is already waiting for me, and I don't drink alcohol," I blurted out in one breath.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" the detective said with a hint of surprise.

"You didn't tell me anything about this, and you call yourself a friend."

"Actually, I have two girlfriends. And we'll definitely talk about it over a cup of Irish tea. Bye, I'll see you in a few days," I shouted goodbye to the stunned girl.

I walked calmly and quietly towards the parking lot. Now I was thinking about how Silver was feeling. This night had been quite difficult for her, to put it mildly.

I would like to talk to her and support her. But I'm afraid I can't help her at the moment. She clearly has no time for me now. She needs to deal with the consequences of what happened, and she can't do that in just a couple of days. But I wasn't too worried about her, she's quite a strong personality and will be able to overcome all the difficulties that have arisen.

I'll meet her when this fuss has settled down. I was able to find my car pretty quickly, and when I was about to open the door, someone hugged me tightly from behind.

"Vicky…"

"Shut up! Do you know how worried I was?! When my boss told me about what happened, I almost went crazy. I remembered you said that you were going to attend this festive evening today, I was so scared for you," my girlfriend's voice sounded quieter and quieter until it turned into a quiet cry.

"Come on, don't cry. I'm not worth these tears. And besides, everything worked out, I'm alive, and besides, now I'm almost a hero! Do you want me to give you a personal interview about what happened," I tried to calm the crying girl.

"Get in the car," I opened the door and Victoria silently got into the car. I pressed the pedal to the floor and drove off in the direction of my house.

"Were you scared?" asked Vale.

"I didn't tell you, but I don't feel fear. It's one of my features..." I told my companion in detail about my skill "Player's Mind".

"So you don't have to worry at all about someone taking control of me. Cool, huh?"

"And why am I hearing about this only now?" Victoria looked at me with ardent displeasure.

"I just haven't had the chance to tell you."

"Better tell me what happened at the club today. And how did you manage to save the hostages and neutralize Gotham's main psycho?" she turned on the recorder, taking it out of her bag.

"Wow, my journalist finally woke up?" I threw her a sly look, for which I received a tiny click to the head.

"Okay, okay, that's it... Anyway, this is how it was…"

Vicki listened to me with bated breath, while being very nervous, as if she herself was in that restaurant and saw what happened with her own eyes.

"Alex, I've already told you that you are very smart, haven't I?"

"Yes, and more than once."

"Today, I'll say it again. You are very smart. To be honest, I am very proud of what you did today... But at the same time, I really don't like that you risked your life for people you don't know," the reporter said, ruffling her hair and sighing heavily.

"My life was at stake too. And besides, I simply couldn't allow the murder of innocent people in this situation."

"Yeah, especially for that ash-haired girl, what was her name... Silver?"

"What can I say, I have a soft spot for women, that's my weakness."

"You'll definitely die one day with this weakness in the future!" Victoria criticized me.

"You're right, that's why I should become stronger…"

"Oh, you still don't understand me...Okay, in that case, answer my questions. I'm going to give birth to my most grandiose article! I'll consider this a request for forgiveness from you for almost dying because of a strange girl."

"I'm always ready to assist in your favorite business!"

"Let's start with riddles. Did you come up with them yourself?"

"They came into this world straight from my head!"

"Okay, tell me these riddles, I'll include them in the article.."

The interview continued until we finally arrived home.
