Besides, the technology just wasn't there yet. This was only the time of the Second Great shinobi War, no internet, no advanced tech.
The technology in the shinobi world was confusing, to say the least. It wasn't until Boruto's time that the Raikage family invented chakra-powered electric cars, making a fortune in the Land of Fire. Raikage Electric had even proposed wireless, long-distance communication.
Before the Fourth Great shinobi War, the daimyo of the Five Great Nations used video conferences via televisions, those big old tube TVs, probably wired given the thick cables behind them.
Color screens were impressive for their time! And on another front, Orochimaru eventually created a robot Naruto, a massive technological leap.
"I need to focus and work in peace from now on," Charlie said seriously to Kana, determined to push forward.
"Please remember to knock before coming in!" Charlie called out as Kana approached the door.
Kana nodded seriously, placing her hands on her hips and giving a slight bow. "I promise I won't disturb your work!" she said earnestly.
She was used to this routine by now. Though she was curious about what Charlie did inside, why he always gave that warning before entering, and why he looked so exhausted when he came out, she understood one thing for sure: Charlie was working hard and absolutely worn out. Otherwise, how could he be earning such a large amount after every grueling session?
Quietly, Charlie dedicated himself to building the Land of Grass when no one was watching. A gentle smile spread across Kana's face as she softly added, "If there's anything I can do to help, just let me know! I won't bother you, I'll just prepare dinner and some hot water."
"Thank you," Charlie replied before stepping into the room.
Kana stayed outside, watching until the door shut behind him. Then she lightly tapped her cheeks and said with determination, "Tonight, I'm going to make a delicious dinner!"
Here, she was the only one who could lend a hand. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she sniffed her arm and thought, "First, I need to take a bath so when Charlie's tired, it's easier to… recharge his chakra!"
Meanwhile, Charlie settled inside and got to work. What kind of work was it? Culture, nothing else.
Right now, all he could do was write stories. Strangely enough, during these chaotic times, everyone was restless and craving relaxing tales.
That's why his first few story scrolls had earned him a surprising amount of ryo, enough to stabilize things and start laying the foundation for Kusagakure's reconstruction.
"The Uchiha and Hyūga Love Scroll is finally done," Charlie muttered, flipping through his system. "I can't believe I'm actually exporting culture… this is so embarrassing. Thank the Sage I'm using a pen name."
If anyone found out, it'd be humiliating. What kind of village leader wrote romance drama for profit? He'd probably be the lowest-ranking figurehead in shinobi history.
And since he had to outsource publishing to companies in other countries, his share of the earnings was tiny. But Kusagakure had no shinobi printing guild, no distribution channels across the Five Great Nations, it couldn't be helped.
After digging through a few cross-border listings, he finally found a promising publisher in the Land of Fire. Eyes narrowing, Charlie stared at the parchment display in front of him.
"Should I switch things up? Maybe illustrated scrolls… with colored ink? That could grab attention!"
That evening, Charlie stepped out of the room looking drained, and Kana's heart ached seeing him like that.
He was really struggling, after all, the Land of Grass was still new, and everything depended on him. And she, despite all the kindness she'd received, felt useless. It only made her more determined to take good care of Charlie.
Three days later, Charlie arrived at the meeting place with the publisher, looking full of energy. This publisher was the biggest in the Land of Fire, with stores all across the Five Great Nations and even smaller countries, a real powerhouse.
"Mr. Inevitable! You're here!" the branch manager greeted him enthusiastically.
"Enough talk. Look at this!" Charlie, wearing a disguise, cut him off and slammed a book on the table. "Read it."
"A new book? Let me pay my respects properly!" The manager accepted the book with great reverence. Mr. Inevitable was a big deal, practically a guaranteed success for them.
But soon, the manager's expression changed to shock. It was... an erotic picture scroll?! They even drew things like frog girls, snake girls, slug girls, with shocking details, the tongue, the figures!
Some illustrations featured creatures this older man didn't even understand, like angels and demons. He was genuinely amazed, almost enlightened.
Wiping his nose, he carefully closed the book, glancing regretfully at the remaining copies. "This book... isn't good for your health."
Charlie said nothing, thinking the manager was being narrow-minded. But in a culture still so limited, anything new was bound to shock them.
Unlike the manager, Charlie was a creator, not someone to be held back by weak health or overthinking. Calmly, he said, "Tell me what you think."
"The usual?" the manager asked hesitantly.
"..."
"Ah, wait! Don't leave yet!" The manager quickly stopped him, looking desperate. "Mr. Inevitable, you're already at the top, but we're not making much profit. Printing and promotion costs fall on us, we're barely breaking even!"
"Then I'll take the publisher from the Land of Rain. They recently contacted me. Let them handle the losses."
"Damn it! Those rough guys dared to reach out?" The manager cursed under his breath, but seeing Mr. Inevitable's stern look, forced a smile. "No losses! No losses!"
"I'll raise the price by..." He started to say, but when he saw Charlie about to leave, he quickly changed his mind. "Five! Five percent! Okay? That's the highest I can go! You know it, Mr. Inevitable! No one can beat us!"
"Five it is! Also, I need you to help secure a batch of grain," Charlie added.
The upcoming reconstruction would require a huge amount of food, and the Land of Grass was just too small to supply it all. Food shortages had always been a problem locally. Once everything was settled, Charlie left.
Next on the agenda was preparing to head to the Land of Rain!
At this point, it was clear to everyone that the war had to come to an end. The Land of Rain, once powerful enough to challenge three nations on its own, was now visibly worn out.
Years of constant fighting had drained its resources and sparked civil unrest, leaving the country in turmoil. Amegakure simply couldn't hold on any longer.
