MINGAN'S POV
The apparition looked exactly as she had in life, down to the small scar on her chin from a childhood accident.
"Well, hello Enid." I set the veil aside and faced her fully. "Have you come to haunt me?"
She tilted her head, that same gesture she had made as a child when she was thinking through a problem. "Would it matter if I had?"
"Probably not. You always were terrible at being frightening."
She laughed then, the sound echoing strangely in the chamber. "Even in death, you cannot give me a moment of respect."
"I respect you plenty. That is why I am finishing what needs to be finished."
"By destroying everything I cared about?"
I moved to my desk and poured myself a glass of wine. The apparition watched me with those knowing eyes, the same eyes that had seen through every lie I had ever told her.
"I am saving what matters," I said finally.
"Koda?"
