Chapter 43 - Game, Set, Mind

---

It was morning, and Kairon was talking on the phone as he said, "Ren was working with someone."

Aria's voice came through. "Why do you say so?"

Kairon flipped through a small pile of papers on his desk, eyes narrowing. "I know what Ren is capable of. That student, Clinton—the one who ran for them—wasn't in Class C."

"What?" Aria said, startled. "But how—?"

"The reason it wasn't noticed," Kairon cut in, "was because the referee was in cahoots with them. So he allowed it to happen."

Aria went quiet for a second, then muttered, "That's… true."

She took a breath. "But who could he be working with?"

Kairon leaned back on his chair. "My guess? Someone with authority and power in the school."

"Like someone in the student council?" Aria asked.

"That can be true."

"But why would someone from the student council interfere with our sports festival?"

Kairon shrugged. "Who knows. But for now, that's what I know."

Aria's voice softened a bit. "Thanks."
