Han Wei Long Simon look at the girl in front of him and sigh. This is not a choice that he wants to make. His mother sits on his left. While Mr Yang the father of Yang Mei Wan Lisa is siting on the right.
"Can i talk to Lisa? For awhile, please."
Mr Yang look at his daughter.She look at her father who give her a small nod.
"Please excuse us."
Both of them got up and walk out of the room. Both of them choose a seat at the balcony that is facing the sea. Outside the hot air is blowing on their face and the waiter take their order and close the glass door. For awhile they did not talk and the strong wind makes their hair dances along with it.
"Are you sure about this? Do you want to go ahead with a marriage like ..."
"Mr Han, I don't want that this too. I am just twenty two. I have my life and dreams to chase."
"So you don't want to marry, am i correct?"
"Can i say no?"
"I want to say no too but you are the third ... family that my mother have arranged me to meet. I am not the type to get marry. "
"So am i."
The waiter is back with the drinks and after that he close the glass door. Both of them take a slip on their cold drink.
"How about this. Let's get marry."
Before she can say anything. He hurry to interrupt her.
" We can stay marry for sometime. After that we can divorce. Think about that after this if we don't agree to get marry, our family each will arrange endless match making. Now if we agree, this will become our last matchmaking session. They will leave us alone... Till we divorce."
"Will that work?"
"Why not?"
"Mr Han, is your mother that simple? Will she make you just marry without conditions?"
"You mean, my conditions if she wants me to get marry."
"What conditions are you giving her?"
"Well for starters, she must give me space to live. I don't want to live with her after marriage. So she have to agree with that. After that the next is to not interfere with my lifestyle. No matter what i do outside is she cannot call me and scream at my ears. Third is that she cannot say no to how i do my work in for the company. She have to agree those three conditions. I think she will."
"So if she agree, my family have ..."
"Start preparing the marriage... I will look for an upstair and downstair apartment. We can live together but not in the same space. The service apartment should not talk about it. Everything will be lip tight."
After they conclude everything, they finish their drinks and walk back to the room. Sitting down, their parents look at their own children.
"My Yang, we have talk and we would like to try ... "
"Get marry first Simon. The rest will come later."
"The rest?... what do you mean Mrs Han?"
"Love and children, what else!"
"Mother for the start, can you please ..."
"Simon, let's talk when we are home. For now, Mr Yang we will be in-laws. What we had talk about please consider. On my side, i will do our best."
Mr Yang did not smile like Mrs Han. He have a poker face and look at his daughter.
That week, Simon and Lisa meet up again for the fitting of the dress and gown. Simon and Lisa a pair of not-happy-couple stand in front of the mirror. Both of them with dark clouds looming above their heads, have their wedding photos taken. Their photographs have been send to both families and they parted at the entrance of the wedding shop.
Another week, Simon and Lisa meetup quietly without their parents. He pass her a contract to sign and agree that they will divorce within five years. She sign and agree. A copy is given to her with his signature.
At the marriage bureau, the application of wedding is done short and sweet. The young couple protest about having a grand wedding ceremony. Thus they only invite the immediate family members for dinner. The grand wedding the young couple promised will be held before or after the Lunar New Year. The young couple's honeymoon is taken separately when they arrive in Hawaii and return together when they are pick up at the airport. They both move in an apartment with upstair and downstair. Lisa takes the upstair and he takes the downstairs. Both apartments share the same emergency password. Both of them agree no other guest in their living space just incase some blubber mouth spread the news out to their families. Plus no intruding into their own space unless there is a message send to say they need something in the other apartment. While for work, Lisa is working on the third floor with the design and packaging department. Since she have been in the university study about design thus Simon give her that opening in that department. While Simon is the CEO under his mother's guidance. She did not know that Lisa is working in their company since there are so many people working in this building.
Three years have pass and Lisa is now the head of her department. While Simon is running the company on his own. His mother rarely comes to the company. The only thing she nags now is the grand wedding dinner which the couple have keep posting off and a grandchild saying that they don't have the mood and time. Both of them ignore her when she nags. Going back home, they rarely talk to each other. Both live in their own space and does their own things. Each day pass with the same thing. The two couple siting on their own sofa looking outside the night sky with the lights that shine brightly in this city. Alone and lonely but nothing will change till five years contract is up.
