Make the ship spirit eat the Storm Fruit, which grants control over storms!
This sudden idea struck Kael's mind like lightning when he saw Diga carrying shells.
As a ship spirit, Diga already had the inherent ability to steer the ship's direction...
If he could combine that with the power of the Storm Fruit to generate wind at will and propel the ship forward...
Then this pirate ship would absolutely become the fastest and most agile sailing vessel in the world!
However, since it was a spur-of-the-moment idea, Kael needed to confirm a few things before putting it into action.
With that in mind, he gave little Diga a kind smile.
"Little Diga, do you know about Devil Fruits?"
"Devil Fruits?"
Diga tilted his head adorably."I know~!"
"Devil Fruits are mystical treasures from the sea. If you eat one, you gain mysterious powers!"
"But at the same time, Devil Fruit users are hated by the sea!"
"I also know there's a Devil Fruit in the captain's quarters~"
The childlike ship spirit answered Kael's question with utmost seriousness.
From beneath the hood, an innocent smile appeared that could make any woman melt.
Kael's eyes lit up upon hearing Diga's response, and he quickly praised him.
"That's right! You really are my ship spirit—so clever~!"
As expected, ship spirits are born with innate knowledge.
Whether it's due to inherited memory or knowledge passed down from the crew, Kael didn't know—but this foundational understanding would save him a lot of explanation.
After praising him a bit, Kael asked the most crucial question on his mind:
"So, if little Diga eats a Devil Fruit, and then the Diga ship touches seawater… as the ship spirit, will you become weak and unable to use your powers?"
Making a ship spirit eat a Devil Fruit was an idea even bolder than a one-take shot in a movie.
But if doing so meant the pirate ship would become helpless whenever it touched the sea—that would be a disaster.
Thankfully—
After a moment of contemplation, little Diga gave an answer that surprised and delighted Kael.
"Hmm... No, Captain Kael."
"Although I'm the embodiment of the Diga, the connection between a ship spirit and a ship is more spiritual or soul-based—it's not a biological link."
"So a Devil Fruit wouldn't affect both the ship spirit and the ship at the same time."
Little Diga wore a serious face, like Conan solving a mystery, as he explained Kael's concern.
Kael's face lit up with joy.
"That's great news!"
"Come with me, little Diga!"
He cracked his knuckles, eyes gleaming with excitement.
Now that he had a system that made him stronger and granted special powers, Kael no longer needed Devil Fruits with obvious weaknesses.
So this high-value Storm Fruit had only two possible fates:
Sell it at an auction for a mountain of Berries;
Keep it and give it to the right crew member.
And now, with the appearance of the ship spirit Diga, the second option was finally viable!
If not now, then when!?
Kael had just entered the captain's quarters when Diga, in his spiritual form, flickered and appeared beside the railing outside the door.
Before he could even step inside, Kael was already back, holding the Storm Fruit.
"Try and see if you can eat it."
A green spiral-shaped fruit was held out to Diga.
"Eh!?"
"Captain Kael, are you giving me a Devil Fruit?"
Diga exclaimed in surprise, sounding quite happy.
Clearly, he didn't understand the fruit's real-world value—he just thought it was a gift from Kael, and that made him happy.
And since the captain's order was to eat it, he would carry it out earnestly.
Suddenly, the spirit-like Diga leapt from the railing.
At that moment, Kael heard a thud—Diga had taken on physical form.
Watching him accept the Storm Fruit and bite into it without hesitation, Kael suddenly felt a bit nervous.
After all, no ship spirit had ever eaten a Devil Fruit in the One Piece world. He had no idea if this wild idea would work.
After a gulp, Diga kept eating without any noticeable reaction, prompting Kael to ask curiously:
"How does it taste?"
"Hmm?"
Diga looked up, still chewing, and mumbled:
"Sorry, Captain Kael, I don't have a normal biological taste system, so I can't answer that."
"Oh~ That's fine, that's fine."
Kael thought it was a little pitiful that the ship spirit couldn't enjoy delicious flavors—but at least he didn't say it tasted like poop, so that was a win.
After a while, Diga finally swallowed the entire green spiral fruit—almost a fifth his size.
Before Kael could say anything else, a breeze suddenly swirled around Diga.
He waved his arms playfully—
And in that instant!
A storm erupted, forming a horizontal tornado that slammed into the sea beside the ship!
A spiraling waterspout surged upward like a giant serpent rising from the ocean, letting out a thunderous roar toward the horizon before slowly fading.
"It worked!!?"
Seeing Diga truly using the Storm Fruit's power, Kael visibly relaxed, a faint smile playing at his lips.
Immediately after, he pulled out a compass and a nautical chart of the East Blue.
After confirming their current location at the port of Arksey Island, Kael pointed in a direction and said:
"Alright, Diga, let's test your new powers!"
"From now on, use your fruit's ability to head in that direction—at full speed!"
"No problem, Captain!!!"
With his new command, Diga grinned.
He didn't make any big movements, but the ship quietly began to turn.
With a flicker, Diga appeared on the lookout tower, standing steadily on the railing.
The next second—
The previously calm sea suddenly surged with waves.
The once-still sails swelled with wind.
Fierce winds rose—mysteriously split into upper and lower streams.
One blew the sails; the other pushed the waves.
But on the ship's deck, there wasn't even the faintest trace of wind pressure.
Clearly, all the storm energy around the ship was under Diga's complete control!
Light danced in Kael's dark eyes.
If the ship used to move like a bicycle, now it was at least an electric motorbike!
Their speed had tripled—maybe more!
This was already far beyond the realm of normal sailing vessels!
And this was just the beginning—Diga had just eaten the fruit.
As a system-created ship spirit, he had limitless potential—just like Kael himself!
Once the Diga leveled up, and they got more crew, the ship spirit's power would surely scale up too.
Who knows—maybe one day, the Diga could even become a ship that flies through the sky!
Plus, with Diga's passive intangibility, he wouldn't fear sea water or Sea-Prism Stone, the bane of all Devil Fruit users.
The more Kael thought about it, the more perfect he felt his decision was!
"No doubt about it—I'm a genius!"
He silently gave himself a mental high five.
Kael was convinced…
There couldn't be a better way to use the Storm Fruit!!!
Loguetown.
This island town is located near the entrance to the Grand Line in East Blue.
It's where the legendary Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, was both born—and executed.
That's why it's known as "The Town of Beginnings and Endings."
It's a dreamland revered by countless pirates!
At this moment, in the busy port, ships of all shapes and sizes were docked, looking like colorful dumplings waiting their turn in the pot.
From above, the sailors moving back and forth looked like ants, hauling all kinds of goods.
With the ocean rising and falling, a rather inconspicuous mid-sized sailing ship slowly pulled into the dock.
"Wahoo~"
"We finally made it!"
Standing at the bow, Kael stretched his body into a giant star shape, loosening his stiff muscles.
Even though the Diga was now faster than most ships and warships, it still took them three whole days to reach Loguetown from the waters near Arksey Island.
The dull, uneventful journey had nearly driven Kael insane.
Now that he finally saw land again, he could hardly contain his excitement.
"Diga, I'll leave guarding the ship to you!"
