Chapter 10 - The Library Has Rules

Ray's POV

The law library at night is a goddamn graveyard. Silent. Cold. Dusty with stress and ambition. Most students clear out after 10. But not her.

Not Sky Valen.

She's still here, like I fucking knew she would be—top floor, back corner, surrounded by books thicker than most people's spines. A vanilla oat latte by her elbow, glasses perched low on her nose, lips parted as she reads.

And no blazer.

Just a white button-down shirt, sleeves rolled up, top two buttons undone. Her black skirt? Too short for a public building. One wrong move and she'd violate half the library code and all of mine.

I don't announce myself.

I just slide into the seat across from her, dragging the chair back like it belongs to me. She doesn't flinch—but her fingers pause mid-line. Her eyes don't look up, but I see her swallow.

Tension? Thick. Tangled. Already wrapping around our throats.

I stretch out, long legs under the table. Let my foot drift.

Just enough to brush her calf.

She shifts.

Good.

Still doesn't look at me.

I smirk and mouth two words:

"Bathroom. Now."

She doesn't blink.

Just slowly raises her eyes, lazily annoyed like I'm interrupting oxygen. Her gaze finds mine—and it's pure fire.

She mouths back:"Fuck off."

But I see it. The flicker.

That tiny twitch in her lip. The flush rising in her neck. Her thighs squeezing.

She's already caving.

I don't move.I just lean back and wait.

Two minutes.

That's all it takes.

She slams her book shut. Glares. Then storms past me like a hurricane in heels.

I grin and follow, quiet as sin.

The back bathroom near the archives is abandoned. Half the school doesn't even know it exists. Fluorescent light flickers once. Twice.

Then she's on me.

Slams me against the wall.

"You're a fucking distraction, Maddox," she hisses, grabbing my collar.

I grab her waist, spin her, and pin her back against the cold tile instead. "You like distractions."

She doesn't argue.

She kisses me like we've been at war. Tongue, teeth, nails. Her hands shove under my shirt. Mine hike up her skirt.

She wraps one leg around my hip, and I feel it—bare skin. No stockings. No barrier.

I growl. "You came to the library like this?"

She smirks against my jaw. "I didn't think you'd follow."

I kiss her harder. Dirtier. Let her moan into my mouth.

The moment she gasps, I drag my mouth to her ear. "Say it."

"Fuck you."

"Not that."

Her breath hitches.

"Ray," she whispers. "God, Ray."

I grin. "That's the one."

Five minutes later, she's back at her table. Hair a mess. Shirt untucked. Glasses back on like she's still in control.

I walk past, whispering, "Library has rules, sweetheart."

She doesn't look up. Just mutters:

"Yeah? So does my dad. Want to see who's scarier?"

I wink."Oh, I'm counting on it."
