Cherreads

Chapter 32 - C032 : Cafeteria Fiasco

Shurry was only using his basic abilities for the moment. This was simply to get his adjustments down before anything else. Though, it didn't take him all that long to grow accustomed to this new strength he possessed.

Changing things up, Leon spoke. "Alright, you seem to be adjusted well enough now. So why not let it all out? Come at me with everything you've got. Once we're done, we can get some dinner."

Shurry lunged into action, his speed blew his previous movements out of the water. Some of the students who came to watch started cheering. However, like before, Leon dodged or blocked every single one of the attacks, regardless of the nature of the attack… None could truly have been said to land their mark. Leon was simply too powerful of an opponent.

Even so, Shurry continued, he practiced partial transformations. This was the one thing that almost landed. It's difficult to deal with a punch that could turn into a stabbing claw right away. Combine it with the light disks he could use to pounce in any direction, and it was enough to make Leon actually think. Sweat, no… But pressuring a level 7 into thinking about how to react was already a praise-worthy feat.

Leon smiled as he served as Shurry's trainer. He's so young, yet so powerful. He'll be a powerful one in the future. Perhaps I should try to mimic his tenacity? Two years… He laughed. "Shurry, I'm gonna be training you for a while. So I want you to promise me something."

"Hmm?" Shurry stopped his assault, completely de-transformed and collapsed to the floor. "What is it, Uncle Leon?"

Leon had a spit take and a gut holding a chuckle. This boy is too damn cute. How dare those Amazoness do that to him. He calmed down. "Well, I want you to always be giving it your best effort. The more pressure you can put on me the better. Got it?"

"Me pressure you, Uncle?"

"Yep, you may not have the raw strength yet… But you've got a wide range of ways you cause me to keep up my guard."

Shurry, hearing the praise, and vote of confidence… His tail caused a dust cloud to form behind him. "Uncle's so strong. But… I'll do---" The rumble of a hungry belly drowned out his words. And a blush appeared on his face.

Having another spit take, Leon chuckled a little, walked over to Shurry and picked him up. "I could give you a stamina potion right away, but, I think you're better off recovering naturally. How's getting a bite to eat sound?" Leon suggested with a cheerful glow. "I think they've got a decent selection of meats."

"Roasts? Smoked? Braised? Baked?" Shurry asked. "What about rare?"

"Yes." The tail always gave him away, but now Shurry was salivating.

In the School's cafeteria, still carried by Leon, Shurry looked at all the meats available and simply couldn't contain his excitement. To him, there were few things as good as sinking his teeth into a well cooked piece of meat. One of the staff noticed the new arrival and giggled.

"Oh, Leon, this boy. You used those charms of yours on a werewolf this time? He's cute."

"No, he's not my son. I'm just training him for Lord Baldr and Lady Idunn. They decided to take him in as their son." Leon smiled.

"I see, so that's what all those curious eyes from the other students are about."

"Yes, and since it is for their sake, I train the boy personally. Though, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have my own reasons." Leon chuckled, then got serious and leaned over so Shurry couldn't hear. "There aren't any amazoness in the cafeteria right now, are there?"

"Oh? I think a couple of them are, just around the corner. You can't miss that wheat skin they all have."

Shurry, didn't need to hear any of what Leon said, just the mention of wheat colored skin was enough to cause his heart to start racing. His eyes narrowed and he let out a howl. Which inevitably caused the students to react.

"Shurry, don't worry. It'll be alright. They won't do anything to you. None of them here would have the depravity to do that." Leon wrapped Shurry up in his arms, doing his best to comfort him. It seems like when he's exhausted, that prismatic mind skill of his weakens a bit. Or is it another skill? Either way, it's probably for the best if we eat elsewhere.

However, from around the corner, two amazoness appeared. "Oh wow? Look at that, isn't he cute!?" One said as the pair approached.

"He really is. So cute! I can't help it, I just want to snuggle him."

"The two of you, not another step." Leon called out. "For your safety, it's best you stay at least that far away from him."

"Huh? But I want to say hi?"

"Why can't we? He looks so soft and cuddly."

"Ask the leader of your class about anything further however…"

"He's crying?"

"And shivering?"

"Are we the ones who scared him?"

Leon was in a difficult spot now. He was sorta hoping that there wouldn't be any of them here. But his predictions were wrong.

Idunn suddenly appeared in the cafeteria, she walked over to the two girls. Held them both close so she could whisper what happened.

"Lady Idunn… They really did that to him?"

"Lady Idunn… Those people are too cruel."

"Yes, so, please, don't think it's your fault. He just needs time. If you want to be friends with him, take it slow and let him break out of that shell. It'll happen, he's strong like that." She said standing again. "I hate to ask, but could you prepare a large meal to be delivered to his room? One for me as well." She said, taking Shurry in her arms, and noticed that the shaking slowed.

"Uh, yes Lady Idunn. That won't be a problem. I'll make it a good one." A staff chef said, with a tear rolling his cheek. His ears had overheard the explanation…

"Thank you." She smiled, patting Shurry's head. "Leon, you did well. I'll take him from here. Get some rest and calm down the others here, alright?"

"Yes Lady Idunn." Leon bowed, watching Idunn leave with a crying Shurry. Damn it, I caused him pain… Inadvertently, but it was also because of my lack of diligence that caused the first problem! Shurry, I'm sorry, please forgive me. His face held back the turbulent emotion building beneath the surface.
