Synopsis
For as long as Xie Yang could remember, he was wearing a mask, being a gentle and obedient son, a meticulous and diligent student, a dependable and reliable friend, an upright and respectable young man even though deep down he was none of those things and couldn't care less about them. He wore the mask out of love, he thought he could gain the love and sincerity of others by acting how they wanted him to act. In the end, this love built on sacrifice and deception went up in smokes and Xie Yang learned his lesson in the most painful and irreparable way. After that, Xie Yang lived for himself uncaring of what others thought. He married out of necessity to his past classmate and they had a good relationship, even falling in love along the way until one car accident transported him back to just a few days before he took off his mask. This time, he swore to pay back both his grievances and gratitude.

Chapter 1 - Back to the beginning (1)

Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock…..

The sounds of a ticking clock can be heard throughout the otherwise silent bedroom. A figure can be seen sleeping quietly on the bed covered from head to toe in a heavy, dark purple colored quilt except for a small tuft of inky black hair peeking out.

Looking around the room, it can be seen that owner really values cleanliness as the room looks spotless with everything having a proper place almost to the point of looking uninhabited.

The room is small & simple with a small bed, a bedside table, a study desk and a wardrobe with minimum decorations. Several workbooks, notebooks and past year CSAT exam question papers as well as a finished mock test question paper along with an assortment of stationery can be seen placed on the study table giving the idea that owner is a meticulous and diligent student.

Rustle, Rustle…..

The figure on the bed stirs awake perhaps disturbed by the sounds of the clock. As the covers slips off the now sitting figure, a youth that can only be described as beautiful comes into view.

The dark covers created a stark contrast against his smooth alabaster skin making it appear even more white. With a small face adorned with soft arched eyebrows, a small nose & plump, red lips along with inky hair which soft to touch and a pair of bright peach blossom eyes that seemed to be smiling even when the owner wasn't.

His brilliant eyes were currently watery accompanied by a flushed and dazed expression from having just woken up making appear pitiful and obedient.

"….."

As if displeased about having been disturbed, the youth frowned scrunching up his eyebrows into a V.

"Why the fuck am I here?"

The youth mumbled as his vision gradually cleared and he warily observed his surroundings.

Xie Yang looked around the familiar yet unfamiliar bedroom, taking in its various mundane yet nostalgic details.

'Wasn't I in a car accident?'

Is this the so called "life flashing before your eyes" crap that's seen in movies? Didn't know that was real.

Then why the hell am i remembering this when I could be remembering the way happier memories I had with Kai?

Somehow it feels like I betrayed him. Oops.

The guilty youth, Xie Yang decided to back to sleep in order to escape this "memory". Yet the feel of the covers on his body felt very soft. And very real.

Just as he was about to fall back asleep, there was a knock on the door accompanied with a soft feminine voice promptly waking him.

"Ah-Yang it's time to wake up or else you'll be late to school."

Apparently satisfied from saying what she wanted, there was a sound of footsteps moving away from the door.

'Okay, this is weird.'

'This feels too real to be a dream'

The youth, Xie Yang glared at the door before cautiously getting up from the bed and getting out of the room.

The familiar corridors invoked a sense of nostalgia within him as he searched along his memories to find the bathroom.

Once in, he looked at his reflection. The sight utterly shocked Xie Yang as in the mirror showed his once matured face having gone through various hurdles of life had suddenly become younger full of youthful vigor.

The face which had worn out from experiencing the cruelty of life had changed to a face which looked so innocent and unaware of the harsh realities of the world.

'….. Am I reborn?'

'This is my own face so rather than a rebirth, it's more suitable to call it a regression or time travel. Or is it a parallel world?' His eyes glinted with a cold light.

After the initial shock, Xie Yang quickly recovered and started to analyze his situation.

He had died. Yes, he had died from the injuries of the car accident. He had even talked with Kai for the last time.

'It seems even the underworld could not accommodate me. Or maybe they felt bad for the wretched bastard who lived a miserable life.' Xie Yang sneered as he looked at his reflection.

Kai was right, in this world he might just be the only one who can afford me.

Thinking of Kai, that guy must have been heartbroken.

Sigh…..

The cold expression on Xie Yang's face softened a bit when he thought of Kai.

BANG! BANG!

"Ge! Be quick! I need to use the bathroom as well!"

The sound of the loud knocks stunned Xie Yang for a sec after which he quickly recovered and answered in an unhurried tone.

"Wait a bit, I'll be out in a few minutes."

These guys won't even let me have five minutes to myself. I seriously cannot live in this household.

'Kai would've let me take three hours if I wanted to.'

Xie Yang grumbled as he quickly brushed his teeth and took a bath in record time before wrapping a towel around his body and opening the door.

Outside the door was an impatient teenager about 16 years old. When he saw Xie Yang, he immediately complained in a loud voice.

"Ge! Were you putting on makeup or something?! I swear even mom takes less time to get ready than you!!"

This infuriating bastard was my younger brother who I apparently have been too soft on as he had learned to disrespect his elders.

With a vein popping out of his head and a dazzling smile, Xie Yang smacked the rude brat upside his head.

Xie Yun was so shocked he forgot to even cry out in pain and retort his older brother who suddenly smacked his head out of nowhere.

He could only watch as his kind and caring older brother who always spoiled him briskly walk back to his room as if the smack had only been his imagination.
