Chapter 20 - The Boss’s Game

Matteo was having a meeting with the head of the Gambino family, who was also a mafia boss. They were in Matteo's casino, discussing business while playing poker.

"I am aware you know about the situation," Mario, the head of the Gambino family, said.

"What are you trying to say? Go straight to the point," Matteo said as he pushed his 1 million chips forward on the poker table.

"Okay, you know where the former head of the mafias kept the money, am I right?" Mario said as he also pushed 1 million chips forward.

"I don't have any idea what you're talking about," Matteo replied as he focused on the poker game and won Mario's 1 million chips.

"We are friends, can I say that? You might be the head of all mafias, xbut I can still try to kill you," Mario said.

"You can try, but let me warn you—before you even make a move, you'll be dead," Matteo said.

Mario started laughing. "We've known each other for some time now, but when it comes to money, we're enemies, right, Mario?"

"I won the poker game. I think that's enough games for today. Let's focus on the meeting now," Matteo said as he placed both hands on the poker table.

"This is your second win. Wow, you're really good at playing poker," Mario said.

"Yes, that is one thing I'm really good at. I'm good at many things," Matteo replied.

"Let me go straight to the point. How much do you think the money is? And tell me right now where it is. Matteo, I know you have an idea where the money is. You're going to have to tell me if you don't want any problems," Mario said.

if I knew where it was, I wouldn't tell you. And secondly, the next time you talk to me like that, you're going to lose your head. You should understand that. You're a scum, a loser. The Gambino family was a proud family, but now you've turned it into a complete disgrace. Imagine—your father was the former head, and you killed him just to take his place. Do you see what kind of loser you are? You're the world's biggest loser, and you need to remember that. And one more thing, never threaten me unless you want to die. You know I have the power to remove you from the mafia. The Gambino family is known for their money, but even with that, you will never have the kind of power I have in the mafia," Matteo said.

"Okay, okay, okay, I hear you, I hear you," Mario replied. "But let me tell you this—if we try to take the money, and we see your boys anywhere near that place, there's going to be bloodshed."

"Suit yourself. Do whatever you want. I don't care. All I know is, you're not going to steal the money. And now, I've changed my mind—even if you get to it first, we will come and take it from you. Even if it means killing you," Matteo said.

"Hmm, looks like you're getting cockier every time just because you're the mafia head. I know it's not easy being the boss, but don't let it go to your head unless you want to lose your life," Mario warned.

"Don't worry, I'm not cocky. I'm just telling you the truth. Watch your back, or you're going to regret it," Matteo said.

Mario was full of rage. He immediately stood up, his men behind him. He pulled out his gun and pointed it at Matteo. But Matteo just sat there, crossing his legs and laughing.

"Look up," Matteo said.

Mario hesitated, then glanced up—and saw guns already aimed at him and his men. Mario was stunned.

"Before this game even started, I told you—if you ever try to shoot me, you'll be dead first," Matteo said.

Mario was shocked. A skilled mafia leader knew when to lower his weapon, so he slowly lowered his gun. Then, he smirked.

"Well, well, you got me. I think that's enough for today," Mario said.

"Agreed. That's enough for today," Matteo replied.

Mario stretched out his hand, and they shook. Matteo watched as Mario turned and walked away.

"That guy is so stupid. The honorable Gambino family is no longer honorable. His shitty son, Mario, is now the head—and that's what ruined it," Matteo said to one of his bodyguards.

He stretched his hand and sighed. "I think I'm a bit tired," he muttered to himself. "I need to go see my wife. She's worried about me—probably worried sick," Matteo said.

"I need to call my wife, Luna," Matteo said as he took out his phone from his pocket.

He dialed Luna's number, and she picked up after a few rings.

"Hey, baby. Luna, sorry I took a little while to call you back. I hope you're not annoyed," Matteo said.

"No, I'm not. Are you on your way?" Luna asked.

"Not yet. I just finished the meeting, but I'll be home soon. I'm about to get in the car," Matteo replied.

"I've been missing you, even in this short time you've been gone," Luna said.

"I know, I know. You love me," Matteo teased. "Don't worry, I'll try to be home as soon as possible. Maybe you can make something for me to eat? You know I love it when the food is made with your own hands."

"Yes, don't worry. I'll prepare something for you," Luna said.

"What are you going to make?" Matteo asked.

"Spaghetti," Luna replied.

"No, not again," Matteo joked.

"What do you mean by that? You're in Italy! Spaghetti is the best thing here. I'm in your country, and you don't even like your country's most famous dish?" Luna said playfully. "That's what I'm making today, so no matter how much you complain, that's what you're going to eat."

Matteo laughed. "Okay, okay, baby. Thank you. I'm on my way now."

They exchanged goodbyes before Matteo hung up. He walked down the steps of the casino, where his driver was already waiting outside. Stepping into the car, Matteo leaned back as the vehicle pulled away, heading home.
