Chapter 38 - The God of Victory’s Fight

"Yes, he did. He's a very strong man indeed. And I have something to show you," Lorenzo said as he pulled out a newspaper.

The headline read: The Gambino Family is Finished. It showed how the family's men were defeated, and that the police were still investigating the case. Mario was reportedly in the hospital.

Are you sure this was done by him alone? The news headline said maybe a gang defeated the Gambino family men—and even the head of the Gambino family is down right now. But we're trying to believe it was only Matteo who did this. So he's really that powerful? You know I told you before—it's not possible for someone to be this strong. And I also mentioned something else: when Matteo was an assassin, he was known as the God of Victory. That was his nickname. He never failed a mission. He lived up to that title every single time."

And nothing is impossible for Matteo. He used to be as cold as ice. And now, he's only getting better—maybe because he married you. I don't even know what he saw in you, the maiden karma. Back then, he was the only one fit to become the boss of all mafia. He didn't just defeat them—he killed the boss of all mafia and all his companions. Matteo did that.

And it's not just me—don't think I'm the only one loyal to him. He has men. When I say men, I mean real men who get the job done. If he wanted someone dead, he could make a single phone call and it would happen.

"Stop saying it that way. It's giving me the creeps," Luna said, leaning back in her chair and exhaling. "If you keep talking like that, I'm going to be scared of my own husband."

"Okay, I won't say it like that," Lorenzo replied, "but I'll tell you one thing—your husband is powerful. He's a real man. I've sworn my loyalty to him, and not just because I had to. Don't think he only went there to prove a point. He could have sent others to do it, but he chose to go alone. That's how confident he is."

"He's different from every other mafia boss that's ruled in the last hundred years. The rest? They were weak. Just fat, greedy men sitting at home doing nothing. But Matteo… he's different. He puts in the work. He's in great shape. He has strength, discipline—everything a real man should have.

"There might be others who are strong, but none of them have the guts like Matteo does. Matteo is powerful," Lorenzo said.

"So, he has other ruthless people who are just as powerful as him?" Luna asked.

"No," Lorenzo said. "No one is powerful enough to take Matteo head-on. People are scared of him. Every boss that has ever ruled the mafia—ruled the underworld—within a year of them being in power, someone tried to kill them and take their place. But that's not the case with Matteo. No one has ever dared to challenge him for his position.

"And it's not just fear. Some people actually respect him. They know he's meant to be there. He's a man of dignity—smart, streetwise, intelligent. That's what Matteo is."

Luna suddenly raised her hand. "Waitress! Waitress, come. Please bring two coffees—one with sugar and one without."

She turned to Lorenzo. "Wait, what kind of coffee do you take? Do you want sugar, or do you want black coffee? Strong one?"

"I prefer black coffee," Lorenzo replied.

"Okay, waitress, bring one coffee with sugar and one black coffee for the gentleman."

"Yes ma'am," the waitress said, nodding before walking off.

"So," Luna continued, "you said you were going to meet my husband today. Did he tell you to come meet him? I'm just curious. You said he didn't say anything, but he did tell you, right?"

"No, he didn't tell me anything. He didn't ask me to meet him or anything like that," Lorenzo said. "I just know where he's going to be, so I'm going to meet him there."

"Where is he going to be? Tell me now," Luna said quickly.

"What do you mean by that?" Lorenzo asked, raising an eyebrow. "And honestly, I think I made a mistake coming here, meeting you, and telling you all these things. I feel like I'm betraying Matteo by talking to you about his work and what he's done. So please, let's not talk about mafia stuff anymore."

Luna narrowed her eyes. "Have you forgotten about the picture you took? Don't forget that. And don't forget—I told you I need a gun, and you said you were going to train me. You said in a week. Was it a week or two? I think it was a week, right?"

"Yeah, I said a week," Lorenzo muttered.

"Good. Because by then, I'll need a gun. I want to start helping him out—start taking care of some things, doing some jobs for him. Do you understand?"

"What do you mean, 'doing some jobs'? You're a lady. You're not meant to be holding a gun," Lorenzo said, shaking his head. "I don't know what you're trying to gain by doing all this."
