Chapter 36 - Chapter 35: The Celestial Market

The starlane they traveled opened into a breathtaking vista—an endless expanse of cosmic wonders, each more vibrant than the last. Shimmering nebulae painted the skies with colors unseen by mortal eyes, while ancient constellations burned like living glyphs. At the center of it all lay the Celestial Market, a hidden nexus of trade and memory, lost to every known star chart.

The Celestial Echo slowed as they approached. Towers of crystal and obsidian rose from floating platforms, tethered by bridges of starlight. Countless ships of every shape and design drifted lazily around the market's core, their hulls glowing with alien runes and the hum of long-forgotten technologies.

🌌 A Market of Echoes

As they disembarked, Akira felt the air buzz with possibility. Vendors hawked goods unlike anything in the known galaxies: vials of liquid stardust, relics of forgotten empires, and seeds said to grow into entire planets.

Vaelin's eyes sparkled with mischief. "I could spend centuries here and still not see it all."

Anaya shook her head, a faint smile on her lips. "Just don't sell your soul for another starblade, Vaelin."

Vaelin winked. "Who said I'd sell mine? I'm more interested in buying a few new tricks."

🌠 Mystic Encounters

Mirai paused at a stall of crystalline relics, each humming softly in resonance with the echoes of ancient worlds. She touched one gently, and a vision flickered in her mind—towering cities lost to time, where every stone sang of glory.

"These artifacts," she whispered, "they're more than trade goods. They're memories—echoes made solid."

A merchant draped in silver robes nodded. "Each carries the song of its origin. Handle them with care, traveler. Or risk being pulled into their stories."

Akira nodded thoughtfully. "We'll keep that in mind."

🌌 The Auction of Starlight

At the market's heart was an auction unlike any other. A vast amphitheater of light and shadow, where beings from every corner of the known—and unknown—galaxies gathered. In the center, an auctioneer in a mask of shifting constellations raised a crystalline hammer.

"Behold," the auctioneer intoned, "the Echo of Eternity—an artifact said to hold the final breath of a dying star."

A hush fell over the crowd as a crystal sphere was revealed, glowing with a light that pulsed like the heartbeat of the cosmos itself. Akira felt the Worldheart stir, recognizing the resonance of something ancient and powerful.

🌠 A Bidding War

Bids flew like stardust—credits and treasures beyond comprehension. Vaelin's hand hovered at his belt, temptation warring with caution.

"We can't let that fall into the wrong hands," he said softly.

Anaya's gaze was steady. "No… but we can't risk our entire mission for it either."

Akira took a deep breath, focusing the Worldheart's pulse. "Not yet. We need to know more."

🌌 Whispers in the Dark

As they watched, a figure approached them from the shadows. Cloaked in midnight silks, their face hidden behind a mask of silver moons, they moved with the quiet grace of one who knows every secret of the stars.

"You are far from home, Starborn," the figure said in a voice that echoed like distant thunder.

Akira met their gaze evenly. "And you know who I am?"

The figure inclined their head. "More than you realize. The Echo of Eternity is tied to your journey—its memory will either save you… or destroy you."

🌠 A Choice to Make

Akira's mind raced. The echoes of the lost civilization still pulsed in his heart, the promise of those memories too important to ignore.

Anaya stepped closer, her voice calm. "We have to decide—do we take the risk and claim the Echo, or do we find another path?"

Vaelin grinned, his hand resting lightly on the hilt of his blade. "Sometimes the best path is the one nobody else dares to walk."

Akira closed his eyes, listening to the Worldheart's quiet song. The choice was his to make—but the echoes of the universe were watching.
