Episode 37: Echoes in the Dark
---
Location: Vienna – Underground Archives Facility
A solitary echo followed every footstep as Eve descended deeper into the forgotten intelligence vault. The walls, damp and lined with rusted steel panels, whispered secrets from the past. She held a tablet glowing faintly in her left hand, her right gripping a silenced pistol.
"Vienna node pinged a residual signal," she said into her comms. "Could be another sleeper agent."
Static.
Then Julian's voice broke through. "Copy that. Proceed with caution. You're off-grid down there."
Eve took a breath and continued forward.
A door marked Project Oracle loomed ahead. She hacked the panel—then paused.
"Heartbeat detected," the tablet flashed.
She kicked open the door.
Inside sat a woman—calm, bound to a chair, head tilted. Eyes alert.
"Agent Eve," she said with a soft smile. "I've been expecting you."

Meanwhile — 15 Miles Beneath Tokyo
Julian, Reese, and Carter crouched in the remains of an old data relay outpost, now a hybrid lab.
Glass tanks bubbled with neural fluid. Human shapes floated inside—sleeper agents in stasis.
Reese squinted. "They've been growing operatives."
Julian pointed to a console. "Their neural maps are linked to one core signature... Operator Zero."
Carter typed rapidly. "If we clone this data and cross-reference against global surveillance, we might find the remaining seven."
Suddenly, the lab lights flickered.
A wall panel slid open.
One of the floating agents blinked awake.
Julian stepped back. "We're not alone."

Vienna — Archive Chamber
The woman, still bound, whispered, "You call it Ghost Net. We called it Genesis. A rebirth protocol."
Eve narrowed her eyes. "Who activated it?"
"You did," the woman replied. "The moment you survived Berlin. The network sees threat as potential."
Suddenly, alarms blared. Gas hissed from hidden vents.
Eve fired into the ceiling and ducked under the desk, pulling the woman with her.
"Why help me?"
"Because they'll kill us both if you don't stop what's coming next."
---
Tokyo Lab
The stasis tank shattered.
A figure stepped out—shimmering skin, synthetic muscles, augmented eyes glowing red.
Reese fired, but the bullets barely slowed the agent down.
Julian tossed a pulse grenade. The agent staggered, but didn't fall.
"Fall back!" Carter yelled.
They retreated into a narrow corridor just as Carter sealed the gate.
Julian panted. "We need stronger tech or bigger allies."
Carter replied, "We need a ghost to fight ghosts."

Somewhere in the Sahara – Classified Coordinates
Deep beneath the desert, a vault opened after decades of silence.
Out walked a man with silver eyes and a biometric tag branded into his wrist:
D7-000. Codename: VANTA.
He whispered, "You called me back. Who's the target?"
A voice responded through the darkness.
"The world itself."
