Chapter 5 - The Patient Who Didn’t Die Quietly

The next morning, Lin Chen was already at his desk before anyone else.

He didn't sleep much — not because of excitement, but because something about the Yu Zhen file just didn't sit right.

He re-read the toxicology report three times. The numbers whispered a secret.

"According to this," he murmured, "they gave her a double dose on Day Two… But why? And why cover it up?"

[System hint: A clue may lie in video surveillance archives, internal access level required.]

"Of course… because nothing's ever easy."

Suddenly, his work terminal blacked out.

Within seconds, the screen displayed: ACCESS DENIED — SECURITY CHECK IN PROGRESS.

At the same time, Su Wanwan burst in.

"Come with me."

Her voice was different today — less ice, more urgency.

Inside a meeting room sat three people:

A company HR rep, a legal consultant, and… the gray-suited man from yesterday.

"Mr. Lin," the HR woman began, "due to your unauthorized access to confidential materials, we have reason to initiate an internal inquiry—"

"I didn't access anything unauthorized," Lin Chen interrupted calmly. "I was told to start with folder X3-A07. That's where I found the file."

The legal advisor frowned slightly. "That folder was not approved for intern review."

"Then maybe you should talk to the person who assigned it to me." He turned to Su Wanwan.

She said nothing.

The silence was sharp.

"I see," Lin Chen smiled wryly. "Trial period really means trial by fire, huh?"

The gray-suited man finally spoke: "You're just a temporary hire. Don't overstep."

Then he slid a document across the table: "Confidentiality Violation Agreement".

Sign it, stay quiet, and keep the job.

Refuse, and be fired.

Just as Lin Chen was about to answer, a knock came at the door.

A plainly dressed middle-aged woman stood at the doorway, her eyes red and her voice trembling:

"Excuse me... Are you the colleague who once saved Yu Zhen? I... I'm her sister."

She held out a small USB drive.

"This... this is a video she recorded before she died. She said she didn't die from illness. Please... take a look at it."

Everyone in the room froze.

Even Su Wanwan.

Lin Chen's eyes narrowed.

"Looks like the real trial just started."

签了,留下;
