Episode 2: The Memory That Wasn't Mine
Juvia didn't sleep that night.
She lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, Ha-jun's words echoing in her mind.
> "You're not supposed to remember yetâŚ"
Remember what?
The sentence spun like a curse in her thoughts. It made no senseâyet it felt like the missing piece of a puzzle she didn't even know she was solving. And the way he looked at her⌠like he knew her more deeply than anyone ever had. Like she mattered in a way she couldn't yet comprehend.
The moonlight spilled through her window, bathing her room in silver hues. Her chest ached againâsoftly, like the phantom pain of a wound she couldn't see.
That's when it happened.
A flash.
Sudden. Blinding.
She wasn't in her room anymore. Not really. Not fully.
She was standing in a garden. But not any gardenâit felt⌠ancient. Sacred. Lit by a blue moon that hung impossibly large in the sky. She wore a white gown, flowing like mist. And in front of her stood a boy with a blade at his side and sorrow in his eyes.
> "Juvia," he said, reaching out. "You promised⌠even if the stars fall⌠you'd find me again."
His voice was trembling.
She couldn't see his face clearlyâbut she knew that voice.
It was Ha-jun.
Thenâfire. Screaming. Shadows rising from the ground like cursed spirits.
He turned, sword drawn, yelling for her to run. She tried to scream his name, but her voice was gone.
The shadows swallowed the garden in seconds.
Juvia shot up from her bed with a gasp, soaked in sweat, her heart pounding against her ribs like a drum of war.
It wasn't just a dream.
It felt like a memory.
But how?
---
The next morning at school, Juvia moved like a ghost. The cafeteria buzzed around her with typical teenage chaosâlaughs, gossip, sneakers squeaking across tile floorsâbut it all sounded distant, muffled beneath the fog in her mind.
She didn't speak to anyone. She couldn't.
And when her eyes found Ha-jun across the room, seated at a far table with her brother and their basketball team, something inside her flinched.
He wasn't looking at her. But his fingers were clenched around his cup like he was holding back a storm.
Later, as the final bell rang and students poured into the courtyard, Juvia slipped away. She needed answers. And she knew where to find him.
The rooftop.
Sure enough, he was there again. Same spot. Same silence.
But this time, he spoke first.
"You dreamed it, didn't you?" His voice was low.
She swallowed hard, stepping closer. "What⌠what did I see?"
He stood slowly, turning toward her. His eyesâdark, unreadableâpierced through her like frost.
"It's starting," he said. "The curse is waking up again."
She stared at him, confused. "Curse?"
He nodded. "You and I⌠we've done this before. Lifetime after lifetime."
Her heart stopped.
"I don't understandâ"
"You don't have to. Not yet," he said. "But you have to stay away from me."
Her chest tightened. "Why?"
He walked past her, the wind catching his coat as he moved.
"Because this time," he whispered without turning back, "if you fall in love with me again⌠one of us won't survive it."
And thenâhe was gone again.
Leaving Juvia alone.
Shaken.
And more drawn to him than ever.
