Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – [The Start II, Rookie II]

June 7th, 2025.

South Korea, Tongyeong- 6:12pm

Hyun-Woo's car was parked outside a giant white building in a nearby parking lot. Many other vehicles were parked outside this building as well, on the building there was the name written in huge red letters, "The Pale Choir." The Pale Choir is one of many assassin groups/organizations around the world. Assassins were criminals and could be arrested whenever, besides when inside one of these buildings. In 1980, a global law known as "The Sanctuary Clause," a law that prohibits any kind of law enforcement from entering land owned by these groups. The reason for the law being made is still unknown to everyone.

Hyun-Woo walked down the hallways of the building, the halls were all completely white. Many black doors leading to different rooms. Hyun-Woo walked past countless people, all of them being assassins for the organization. Hyun-Woo's left forearm was wrapped in bandages. Eventually, he arrived at a door at the end of the hallway. There was a white sign with black letters above the door, "Kang-Dae's Office." Hyun-Woo pushed the door open and walked in.

Behind the silver desk, a man sat on a black office chair. There was a black nameplate on the desk, "Kang-Dae Jang." Kang-Dae wore a white buttoned shirt, but the top two buttons were unbuttoned, revealing his bare chest. He wore black jeans and black dress shoes, his hair was short, unkempt, and black. Kang-Dae's brown eyes focused on Hyun-Woo. "Why did you not reply to my text, Hyun-Woo? I was worried one of my favorites had died."

"Me? One of your favorites? You flatter me, boss." Hyun-Woo replied sarcastically while placing his right hand on his chest and acting surprised. Kang-Dae sighed before leaning back in his chair. "Fuck you, you little shit. Be glad I'm interested in your potential or I would be beating your ass." Hyun-Woo scoffed before grinning. "You're like thirty-something, out of your prime. I'll take you on, hag."

Kang-Dae sighed again before rolling his chair back and placing his feet on his desk. "So did you capture Tae-Hyun?" He asked. Hyun-Woo nodded his head, "I beat him, but the police arrived before I could get his unconscious body." Kang-Dae groaned in annoyance before looking up at the roof and placing his hand on his face. "You know that means you aren't getting paid. A two-million-won bounty gone… down the drain it does."

Hyun-Woo looked a bit annoyed as he leaned against the wall and began tapping his left foot on the ground. "Am I going to have to wait another week for a mission, or do you have any open right now?" He asked with an annoyed tone. Kang-Dae took his feet off his table and pulled his chair closer to the desk before opening one of his drawers and taking out a folder. "You know, usually I would make you wait a week… but I don't want one of my favorites dying of starvation." He opened the folder and began looking through the giant stack of papers. "Hyun-Woo, if you mess up this mission… I'm not giving you another one for a month."

Hyun-Woo had a shocked expression. He walked forward and placed his hands on the desk. "A MONTH?! WHAT THE HELL, THAT'S NOT FAIR!" Kang-Dae smirked as he continued looking, "Life isn't fair, be grateful for this opportunity, Hyun-Woo." Suddenly he stopped at a specific paper and pulled it out of the folder, he placed it on the desk and slid it forward. Hyun-Woo looked down at it.

"Zhi Yi is an assassin from China. His motives for coming to South Korea as of right now are unknown. He's similar to you, in China he was considered a prodigy, from what I've heard." Kang-Dae took a small pause before continuing. "He's also new to the assassin thing, started four months ago, he's only been at it for one more than you. The reward is five million won. We want him alive, Hyun-Woo."

Hyun-Woo grabbed the paper and rolled it up before putting it into his pocket. "I'll read the details when I'm home, I'll let you know if I accept the offer." Kang-Dae looked annoyed, "Can't you read it now? I don't feel like waiting for your call or text." Hyun-Woo nodded before turning his back to Kang-Dae and leaving the office. Hyun-Woo walked down the hallway, ready to go back home. Suddenly he heard someone call out his name.

Hyun-Woo looked back and saw Jisoo. Jisoo had brown wavy hair, brown eyes that had a nice warmth to them, and he had white skin. Jisoo wore a black oversized hoodie, gray sweatpants, and black sandals. "I'm so happy to see you alive, bro!"

Hyun-Woo looked surprised. "Why are you here, Jisoo? And why are you wearing a hoodie when it's this hot…?" He asked. Jisoo scratched the back of his neck, "My house was freezing… I had no energy to turn up the heat so I put on a hoodie. And then my boss called me, telling me to rush over here." Jisoo sighed, he looked upset. "Do you know why he called me…? To tell me my mission got canceled, and the woman I was supposed to capture got killed by another organization. HE COULD'VE TOLD ME OVER TEXT!"

Hyun-Woo took out the rolled-up paper and showed it to Jisoo. "I actually just got a new mission, five million won. Do you have any plans for like the next two weeks?" He asked, Jisoo shook his head. "No, my boss told me he has no missions I can handle on him, why?"

Hyun-Woo placed his hand on Jisoo's shoulder. "How about you meet me at my place, we can read the details, and… if you're up for it, you can help me. We'll split the money." Jisoo instantly shook his head, but then placed his finger on his chin. "Is your sister going to be there?" Hyun-Woo sighed before turning around and walking away, "Forget it." Jisoo reached out his right hand and chased after Hyun-Woo. "HYUN-WOO IT WAS A JOKE, I'M SORRY, I NEED THE WON!!!"

Hyun-Woo ignored him and continued to walk down the hallway. Jisoo suddenly bumped into some guy by accident while chasing Hyun-Woo. Suddenly a huge smash noise echoed through the hallway, Hyun-Woo looked back and saw Jisoo had been smashed into the wall. Blood dropped from his face onto his lap, and the man looked annoyed. "You're an assassin, stop running through the halls. You aren't a kid." Hyun-Woo's eyes filled with anger as he began approaching the man. The man turned to look at him. "Was he your friend? Are you mad at me?"

"Not just a friend, my best friend," Hyun-Woo replied. The man cracked his knuckles and began to walk toward Hyun-Woo. "I know who you are, the new prodigy everyone's been talking about. How about I put you in your place?" The two of them stood before each other, Hyun-Woo looked up at the man while the man looked down at him. Hyun-Woo's eyes began to glow blue.
