Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Xaku Unleashed

Unfortunately, as team commander, Yon-Rogg wasn't easily subdued by mere injuries.

He grabbed Xaku's broken leg component, channeling wild energy through his arm. Green power erupted instantly, repelling Marcus who had been pinning him down.

"Take him together!" Yon-Rogg shouted.

At his command, multiple green energy beams shot from the smoke, streaking toward Marcus.

Simultaneously, a Kree warrior wielding a long knife rushed forward, slashing with his green-glowing blade.

"GAZE!"

With a bone-chilling command, numerous void tendrils composed of pure void energy materialized around the knife-wielding attacker.

The tendrils wrapped tightly around his body, immobilizing him completely. As they continued to constrict, the warrior was enveloped in a cloud of void energy, frozen in place like a macabre sculpture.

"I'll be taking this," Marcus stated, claiming the long knife from the paralyzed Kree.

The fragments on his right shoulder and arm detached, floating upward as void energy surged through his ethereal vessels, forming a protective energy cloud around him.

The stolen weapon—became infused with void energy, its glow transforming from green to pale blue.

Gripping the sword, Marcus charged toward Yon-Rogg again. Some incoming energy beams grazed past him while others were deflected by his newly acquired blade.

The sword moved in a continuous blur, attacking Yon-Rogg from every angle in a relentless storm of strikes.

Faced with this overwhelming assault, Yon-Rogg struggled to maintain his defense.

His opponent's combat skill matched his own. Even with his equipment's enhanced power, he couldn't penetrate Marcus's defenses. Meanwhile, he needed constant vigilance against Marcus's attacks—a single moment's lapse would result in further injury or death.

The pain from his shoulder wound intensified his focus. Yon-Rogg knew that any mistake would result in Marcus's blade finding his neck without hesitation.

During his sustained attack, Marcus attempted to immobilize Yon-Rogg with the same void tendrils that had captured his comrade.

But Yon-Rogg's equipment proved resilient. When confronted with the reaching tendrils, he broke free by channeling his equipment's power in a sudden burst.

Of course, Yon-Rogg wasn't merely defending. Though his weapons proved ineffective against Marcus directly, they remained potent against other targets.

Green energy radiated from his gauntlets, causing wreckage from the crashed plane to levitate and launch toward Marcus from behind.

Clang! Swish!

Marcus leapt upward, swinging the blade behind him in a wide arc.

The flying debris met his sword—some pieces deflected, others cleanly bisected.

After dispatching the wreckage, Marcus stepped lightly in midair. Blue energy materialized beneath his feet, allowing him to execute another jump from thin air, evading a volley of green energy beams.

"These attacks are becoming tiresome," he muttered.

The energy beams posed a genuine threat, forcing him to constantly dodge—an irritating distraction from his primary target.

Void Grasp

The armored fragments on Xaku's chest and thighs silently detached, floating upward as a void rift opened beside Marcus. Countless void tendrils emerged, extending toward the Kree soldiers who continued firing at him.

Confronted by the approaching tendrils, the warriors retreated hastily, desperate to avoid the fate of their immobilized comrade.

But the tendrils weren't targeting the warriors themselves—they sought the weapons in their hands.

Caught off guard, the retreating Kree lost their grip as tendrils snatched their weapons away. They watched helplessly as their armaments gathered around Marcus.

Six weapons, each wrapped in void energy, surrounded him in a rotating array, their muzzles constantly adjusting direction.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

The captured weapons fired simultaneously, void-infused beams erupting from their muzzles, turning the Kree's own firepower against them.

Faced with these deadly projectiles, the warriors scattered, terrified that the void-enhanced beams would penetrate their armor.

With the distractions eliminated, Marcus turned his full attention to Yon-Rogg, determined to claim his powerful equipment.

The sword slashed at Yon-Rogg again, its razor edge carving through the air with increasing speed.

Piercing Talon Dive—the sword technique Marcus utilized—belonged to the ancient Talon stance, a devastating series of strikes.

The blade attacked from unpredictable angles, feet constantly advancing while targeting vital points with each strike.

As Marcus and Yon-Rogg fought, the Kree commander's subordinates seized an opportunity. While they couldn't harm Marcus directly, there was another target present—the pilot was vulnerable.

They rushed toward the plane wreckage under cover of the billowing smoke. They cared nothing for the mysterious warrior who had transformed into a void entity, but the woman who piloted Mar-Vell's aircraft would likely know the location of the energy core.

Carol, initially stunned by Marcus's transformation, regained alertness upon hearing movement around her. She raised her pistol, scanning for threats.

"Stop! Rescue teams are inbound! If you don't leave now, you'll be surrounded!"

She shouted at a Kree soldier who had revealed his position. Her warning served two purposes—intimidating the enemy while also alerting Marcus to the developing threat.

Despite these warriors having killed Dr. Mar-Vell immediately upon arrival, Carol felt more aligned with Marcus, who at least hadn't shown any hostility toward her.

Hearing Carol's warning, Marcus drove his sword downward. The void-infused blade pressed against Yon-Rogg's arm, forcing him to his knees.

"Your team seems more interested in other priorities than saving you," Marcus observed coldly. He delivered a sharp kick to Yon-Rogg while the fragments on his arm detached. "DENY!"

A void beam projected from his fingertips, aimed directly at Yon-Rogg's head.

The moment he saw Marcus's arm fragments detach, Yon-Rogg abandoned resistance, dropping to the ground beneath the blade. The void beam grazed his scalp, continuing onward to strike the warriors advancing toward Carol.

"Impressive reflexes," Marcus acknowledged.

It had been a rational choice—compared to death, injury was always acceptable. However, while Yon-Rogg had evaded the void beam, his team members weren't as fortunate.

The energy pierced a blue-skinned Kree warrior. His green combat suit offered no protection as the beam passed clean through his chest.

As the warrior screamed, Carol pulled the trigger, firing at the approaching team members.

What she hadn't anticipated was that the green energy emanating from Yon-Rogg's gauntlets was standard equipment for all Kree soldiers.

One warrior channeled green energy through his arms, generating a protective shield that blocked every bullet Carol fired.

"Damn it!"

The bullets posed no threat to these adversaries, leaving only one option.

Carol turned her weapon toward the plane's engine. Unlike the Kree's energy shields, the engine was vulnerable.

A single shot detonated the power source, releasing a burst of blue energy.

Marcus, poised to finish Yon-Rogg, was thrown backward by the explosion. As he flew through the air, he witnessed Carol being engulfed by the blue energy.

"Dammit! That woman is wasting valuable resources!"
