Chapter 19 - Chapter 19:Card Trooper

Trap Card - Enma's Judgment, Machina Fortress's revival is negated!

"Ryuzaki, the duelist, actually had another trick hidden!"

Commentator Owatari spluttered, his saliva flying.

"It seems even the Fortress's revival was within his calculations, and because it was a counter-trap, Yugen the duelist had almost no room to salvage the situation; the tempo was directly interrupted.

It looks like it will be very difficult for him to continue his counterattack. So, can he still uphold his declaration of ending the duel this turn?"

However, facing this situation, Yugen's only thought was:

"Damn, Kenzan is one thing, but how do you also have Misawa's cards?"

That's right, this "Enma's Judgment" was a card used by the famous background character Misawa Daichi in the original GX, originally a trap specifically for Zombie-Type monsters. If you banish five Zombie-Type monsters from your Graveyard, you can Special Summon a Zombie-Type monster from your Deck.

However, Ryuzaki, a dinosaur player, obviously had no Zombie-Type monsters. But in the anime environment, using it as a substitute for something like a Trap Hole was actually useful.

After all, duelists in this world don't have as much freedom when constructing their decks; they often use whatever they have on hand. If they happen to open this card from a pack, even a non-Zombie user might consider putting it in their deck.

The Fortress returned to the Graveyard, but Yugen paid it no mind; another card, glowing with golden light, once again left the Graveyard.

"From the Graveyard, Machina Megaform's effect."

Yugen revealed the card leaving the Graveyard zone.

"This card, while in the Graveyard, and if my 'Machina Fortress' on the field was sent to the Graveyard, can be Special Summoned by banishing that 'Machina Fortress' from the Graveyard."

The destroyed Machina Fortress returned to the field as a translucent phantom, then vanished with a shimmering golden light.

"Therefore, I banish Machina Fortress from the Graveyard, and Special Summon 'Machina Megaform'!"

The scattering light of the Fortress once again condensed into a solid form. The ethereal heavy armor began to transform, massive metal feet stomped heavily onto the ground, heavy treads transformed to its sides, a main cannon rested on its shoulder, the alloy Fortress slowly transforming into a heavy armored robot.

Autobots, transform!

[Machina Megaform, ATK 2600]

"Unbelievable, Yugen the duelist actually had that hidden trick too!"

Commentator Owatari's face was flushed, his emotions seemingly even more excited than the duelist on the field.

"This was the cost he discarded from his hand when Special Summoning Machina Fortress in the previous turn, and Yugen the duelist had already calculated so many steps ahead from that moment on!

Could it be that today will truly be the day we witness the rise of a new star?!"

Commentator Sasaki silently picked up a tissue to wipe off the saliva splashed onto his face, then imperceptibly shifted his butt a few inches away from his colleague.

But just as the Fortress was about to finish transforming, the massive machine suddenly staggered, then with a crash, knelt down, its body flickering on and off, then gradually becoming ethereal, until it vanished like a wisp of smoke.

Commentator Owatari: "!"

"This... what's happening?" The commentator was shocked, "Where's Megaform?"

"Hahahaha!" Ryuzaki roared with laughter, "I already anticipated you hiding a trump card in your Graveyard. Perhaps you did calculate two or three steps more than others, but my duel goes even further than yours!

The moment you activated 'Machina Megaform's effect, I chained this card!"

All eyes then fell upon the face-up trap card in his back row.

Trap Card - Disappear.

"Disappear, this trap allows me to target one card in your opponent's Graveyard and banish it directly from the game. Therefore, before your machine could even be revived onto the field, I directly banished your 'Machina Megaform' from the game!"

Ryuzaki's laughter grew even more triumphant.

"How about it? Can you still declare that this is my last turn now? Your machines have all been shattered by me, and all your tricks and setups have been individually dismantled. And I still have the invincible Black Tyranno on my field!"

Commentator Sasaki couldn't help but nod: "Indeed. Although Yugen the duelist prepared sufficiently, Dinosaur Ryuzaki is truly not an easy opponent to deal with.

Though it's a pity, no matter what strategy he originally prepared, he should be powerless under such a setup."

Ryuzaki obviously thought so too.

You took two direct hits, and you still think you can finish me this turn?

You still think you can overcome Black Tyranno's powerful direct attack and defeat me?

"Come on, come on, just try to finish me. If you can, then GKD (go, go, go), I'm waiting here."

Yugen pondered.

"Hmm. That's a strange request indeed."

"Well, if the opponent insists."

"Open face-down card."

He pointed to his back row, and the Trap Card flipped open.

"Continuous Trap 'Limit Reverse'. It can Special Summon one monster with 1000 ATK or less from your Graveyard in Attack Position.

When that monster changes to Defense Position, that monster and this card are destroyed."

"Hm?" Ryuzaki raised an eyebrow.

It can only revive monsters with 1000 ATK or less, and they can't switch to Defense Position, so they're all just small fry.

"The card I want to revive is this."

Yugen received a card that shot out from the Graveyard.

"Card Trooper!"

[Card Trooper, ATK 400]

Card Trooper, one of Yuki Judai's frequently used monsters in the later stages. It can gain an additional 1900 ATK during that turn by sending the top three cards of its controller's Deck to the Graveyard, and when it's destroyed, the player can draw one card.

With its abilities to mill, gain ATK, and draw, it was a familiar face in competitive decks in its time, even being limited due to its high play rate in tournaments.

But Ryuzaki obviously didn't see the power of this thing: "Ha, as expected, just a small fry."

"Whether it's a small fry or not, you'll find out very soon. Next, I activate a Spell Card from my hand."

Yugen waved his hand, and a green Spell Card appeared before him.

"Spell Card - Machine Duplication.

You can target one Machine-Type monster with 500 or less ATK on your field, and Special Summon up to two monsters with the same name from your Deck.

The card I choose, of course, is the 400 ATK 'Card Trooper'!"

He drew and revealed two more cards from his Deck.

"Special Summon two more 'Card Trooper'!"

[Card Trooper, ATK 400] x3

"Three monsters all at once?!"

Ryuzaki suppressed the unease in his heart.

"But small fry are still small fry, no matter how many come..."

"Card Trooper's effect." Yugen was still operating, "Card Trooper, once per turn, can send the top three cards of its controller's Deck to the Graveyard.

For each card sent to the Graveyard by this effect, this card gains 500 ATK until the End Phase.

Therefore, I activate the effects of all three 'Card Trooper' consecutively, sending nine cards from the top of my Deck to the Graveyard!"

A large handful of cards cascaded from the Deck, swishing one after another into the Graveyard zone of the duel disk.

"Each Card Trooper gains 1500 ATK!"

[Card Trooper, ATK 400 → ATK 1900] x3

"Next, the final card I'm playing is this."

Yugen played the last card to end the duel.

"Quick-Play Spell - Limiter Removal! All Machine-Type monsters on your field have their ATK doubled until the End Phase!"

"Na-na... NANI?!!"

Ryuzaki was horrified, and both commentators were also stunned. The audience's shouts of shock turned into a tide, almost overturning the venue.

All Machine-Type monsters on the field double their ATK, which means these three Card Troopers...

[Card Trooper, ATK 1900 → ATK 3800] x3

"3800 ATK, three of them at once?!"

Commentator Owatari felt like his entire family would be dumbfounded.

There's a move like that??

Sasaki also gasped, feeling a stormy wave rise in his heart.

With the limiter removed, sparks of electricity crackled all over the three gunners, their forms rapidly expanding, instantly growing from three tiny figures into towering mechanical giants.

The previously imposing Black Tyranno now had to crane its neck to even see these colossal, sky-high machines, and couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat, shrinking its head and trembling.

"First, the first Card Trooper, destroy 'Black Tyranno'!"

Bang bang went the cannons. The black dinosaur was pierced through the middle, exploding with a loud boom.

Ryuzaki: "Ugh!"

[Ryuzaki, LP 2800 → LP 1600]

His back row was completely used up, resources entirely depleted, Ryuzaki naturally had no more means to defend himself.

"Next are the remaining Card Troopers, direct attack on Ryuzaki!"

The cannons locked on, electricity flickering. The Card Troopers' twin cannons roared, and the spiraling projectiles, trailing burning black smoke, flew straight towards Ryuzaki.

Under the glare of that firepower, Ryuzaki's vision blurred, and in a flash, Yugen, standing opposite him, seemed to overlap with another image from his memory.

Under the roar of firepower, he mistakenly heard the voice of an old acquaintance from years past.

The first King of Games, Yugi Muto.

"No matter what kind of card, it has its value."

"No matter how weak a monster is, it has its meaning. Someone who casually dismisses a card's potential with 'small fry' isn't worthy of being called a duelist."

"..."

To endure consecutive counter-traps and still manage to rebuild such a formation all at once. Such power, such overwhelming offense, this was the feeling of power he pursued.

Card Trooper, with only 400 ATK, such an unremarkable small fry, yet it could unleash such a decisive chain.

For that one instant, he almost felt as if he was seeing the Yugi Muto of old standing opposite him.

But it was only a fleeting moment, the illusion quickly dissipated.

In its place was the overwhelming firepower that enveloped him entirely.

[Ryuzaki, LP 1600 → LP 0]
