Chapter 17 - Chapter 17—Dance of Death

They were already approaching the city taken over by the terrorists, now walking on foot toward the location. Everyone remained alert to every sound or movement.

— So they've already arrived? …What a pain!

That voice came from the middle of the forest and caught Kura's attention. Just seconds later, the sound of fast footsteps could be heard, along with background music playing—a rhythm typical of capoeira fights. Then the electric youngster noticed a dangerous movement aimed at his captain.

— Held, watch out!

The boy jumped and threw himself over Held, placing himself about two meters above the man. A powerful bolt of lightning struck the boy squarely. The man hidden in the forest relaxed a bit, thinking he had already taken one of them out. But something even more surprising happened—the lightning was effortlessly absorbed and repelled by Kura, who appeared completely unharmed, even more energized than before.

— That's useless! I am electricity itself!

That statement surprised and excited the man, prompting him to finally emerge from the woods. He was a tall man, seemingly around twenty-nine years old, with body paint all over—typical of the Tapajós indigenous tribe. Calmly, he began stretching.

— Alright, alright… Looks like my "Quarup Peró" has no effect on you. This is going to be a pain…

The young man didn't understand what that meant—maybe another language? But that didn't matter now. The boy of electricity quickly fired a bolt of lightning at the indigenous warrior. In response, the enemy performed a few more dance steps, generating strong winds that deflected the electric blast, causing it to hit a tree instead.

— He's fast… Really fast!

Kura said this as he kept his eyes on his opponent. Then he pointed toward the city and spoke to his teammates:

— Go ahead, I'll take care of this guy and catch up later… I'll just smash his face in, and I'll be right behind you!

Everyone in the group looked concerned—except for their captain, who trusted his subordinate and signaled for the group to move on toward the city.

— Alright, we'll see you there. Be careful—rumor has it he's faster than lightning!

Kura simply nodded, giving a thumbs-up. Of course, the indigenous opponent wasn't going to let them flee so easily. He lunged at them with all his speed and power but was stopped by the young soldier, who threw himself in front of him, blocking his path.

— Oh… You bastard!

The man used his enhanced flexibility, along with pants that enabled such movements, and tried to kick the boy's head to knock him out. Kura responded by using all his strength to push the enemy away, putting a safe distance between them so they stood face to face.

— Looks like you're not letting me pass… Then let's get on with it!

The indigenous man was ready for combat against the smaller boy. Kura got into position, placing his right hand on the ground for stability, appearing ready to launch into a powerful punch.

— Here I go, then!

Kura charged swiftly, but to the enemy's surprise, instead of a punch, he delivered a double-footed dropkick to the face, sending the man flying several meters. The man flipped midair and landed on his feet, stumbling slightly from the impact as blood trickled from his nose.

— Whoa… You're strong, kid. This fight's going to be interesting!

As he said this, Kura rushed at him again, aiming an upward punch. The indigenous man managed to block the strike with one hand. Realizing the block, Kura immediately used his free hand to deliver a powerful downward punch to the enemy's face. The impact drove the man to his knees.

It looked like Kura had won, but then he felt the man grab his shoulders tightly and deliver a powerful kick to his abdomen, sending him flying. The upward motion of the kick caused Kura to flip over his opponent and land behind him.

— You know, kid, I don't think we introduced ourselves properly… My name is Humaitá Cachambi! And I have to admit—you're strong, no doubt about it!

Humaitá smiled as he looked at the young soldier, who got up with some difficulty. Kura swayed, taking deep breaths as he tried to recover his fighting stance.

— Okay… This fight's not going to be as easy as I thought. That kick hurt! Can't even compare it to that weakling bishop!

Recovering, he launched another attack. His fist seemed to glow in Humaitá's eyes, triggering the criminal's danger sense and forcing him to raise his arms to protect his head. The punch felt twice as strong, almost as if it repelled the water in the man's body and sent him flying farther than usual. This was pure electromagnetism from Kura's fist. Even though Humaitá tried to brace his feet, he barely stayed upright after the powerful blow.

— You little bastard… That one hurt!

Humaitá slowly raised his head, only to be met by a flurry of punches to the face, driving him backward—helpless.

"Damn… This kid realized he'd lose in a speed fight, so now he's not even giving me a chance to react!"

Just as Kura seemed to have the upper hand, Humaitá broke through the barrage, landing a powerful punch to the boy's ribs. Kura stumbled back a few inches, only to be caught in a rapid series of punches and kicks. Humaitá danced with each move—a deadly, wild rhythm that forced Kura to keep retreating.

The only thing Kura could hear was, "Quarup Tapera," and suddenly, a heavy storm broke over the battlefield, soaking both fighters. Kura spat out blood, but then spotted an opening and landed another powerful downward punch to the enemy's face. This time, Humaitá staggered but stayed on his feet.

Kura dashed in and landed a sharp blow using the junction between his upper arm and forearm, striking the man's chin. Humaitá flipped through the air and landed hard on his face. He got up slowly, cracking his neck.

"A bit stronger and I would've been knocked out… This kid is terrifying—"

He didn't finish the thought. Kura was already standing over him, casting a weak shadow. The boy grabbed his head and delivered a brutal headbutt. But this time, Kura was the one more injured. Though Humaitá's head bled, Kura's wound was much deeper.

— What the…?

Kura stared at the blood running down his forehead. Seeing this, Humaitá smiled—finally having pushed the boy back a bit.

— You know, kid, I was trained to be hard-headed since childhood. You could say I'm the master of headbutts!

He struck the soldier's chest with both hands, knocking the wind out of him and pushing him back. Humaitá began another series of punches, even faster than lightning. Kura could only defend himself until he found an opening and landed a right jab to the enemy's face. But Humaitá quickly recovered and resumed his assault, overwhelming Kura.

One of the punches hit Kura's solar plexus, causing him to hunch over. But before falling, he grabbed the man's left arm with all his strength, startling Humaitá.

— Gods… My mom's gonna kill me for getting this hurt. Well, say goodbye to this arm.

Panic surged through Humaitá as Kura tightened his grip and prepared to destroy the arm.

— Damn it, let go, you bastard!

Despite the brutal kicks and desperate pulls, Kura didn't yield. On the contrary—he focused all his strength, magnetism, and electricity to try and blow the arm apart. The agony forced Humaitá to deliver another crushing kick to Kura's solar plexus, making the boy finally release the arm before destroying it—though it was now unusable for at least a minute.

As the arm was freed, Humaitá took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair with the one arm that still worked.

— By Tupã… This is going to be more dangerous than I imagined.
