Chapter 1 - Prologue___I just like to play the games...

Elowen ran over the shimmering plain of the realm of Kaelith, between the heavens and earth, a land of magic. The moon held like a pearl in the heavens as the tender light cast the shadows on air. The glowing leaves of trees swayed soft to and fro, and in their branches formed the arches under which the stars were held. The flowers bloomed in all colors beneath her, filling the air with sweet fragrances. In this realm, Elowen, a spirit of the moon, flourished, illuminating both the mundane and the extraordinary. Life was magic and adventure in abundance here. Elowen had always been mesmerized by the night sky, craving freedom beyond the realm she lived in. Today, however, a somber mood hung in the air.

A deadly plague, known as the Malice Bloom Plague, had swept through one of the villages in the Kaelith realm, casting a shadow over once-bright glades. She felt responsible for it, or perhaps her recklessness had awakened the illness within her mother's body. All the villagers became trapped in a feverish sleep, growing worse with each passing day. Every night, Elowen slept by her mother's bedside, giving empty words of comfort as she brushed the wet hair from her mother's forehead. Her heart felt heavy as she stayed outside their cottage, hidden in ivy. Her memory wouldn't let go and kept replaying the mistake. She regretted it.

"Perhaps the new herbalist in town might help," Elowen whispered to herself. The thought of leaving her mother was unbearable. Her eyes wandered around the room. Her father was lying there, unmoving. Even in his sleep, he seemed frail, breathing heavily. A tightness in Elowen's chest made her wish she had done more—she wished she hadn't let him leave that day.

She got up and checked the jar to see how much money she could spare for medicine, but all she found were a few coins—nowhere near enough. "I'll have to borrow money from Balthazar. Once the plague is over, I'll work hard to pay him back," she thought.

Her eyes dropped to the ground. She had already used most of it on healing herbs and supplies for the house. That was what she needed to pay off. Her heart sank at the thought, but she had to get the medicine. She rushed to the herbalist's shop, her steps quick as she passed through the familiar streets, now filled with fear. As Elowen walked through the village, she saw people. Their laughter had been silenced by the plague. No one smiled; all she heard were crying children, their thin, shrill cries filled with panic. The mothers held their children tightly, trying to calm them down. Many of the men had grim looks on their faces, carrying tools or bundles of goods. They passed Elowen, who was in a hurry, but they said nothing, their hands extended to their sides, blank and emotionless.

Elowen flung open the door to the herbalist's shop. Inside, it was quiet. The woman stood behind the counter, her eyes focused on the pages in front of her. The air was thick with the smell of herbs and potions. The shop was small, filled with colorful vines and strange objects scattered around. There were shelves full of jars with ingredients that promised either harm or healing. An elderly herbalist with a knowing smile and piercing eyes turned to face her.

"Elowen, dear! What brings you here?" she asked in a whisper that echoed through the quiet room.

"My mother... she is sick, and I need a cure. Please, anything to save her!" Elowen begged, her voice trembling.

The herbalist studied her carefully, squinting. "I can help, but it will cost you," she said thoughtfully.

Elowen's heart raced. She stood tall and pulled out the Nimbus Notes Balthazar had given her. "I have money," she said.

The old woman raised an eyebrow and looked down at the notes. "No, money won't do. There's another price to pay. Just a small one," she added mysteriously.

Her words stunned Elowen. This didn't feel right. What could the herbalist possibly want if she wouldn't take money? "How much do you want?" she asked nervously, her hands shaking.

The herbalist leaned close and whispered softly in her ear. "It all depends on whether your mother is valuable or not."

Elowen frowned. "What do you mean, 'how much my mother is worth'? She just needs a cure!" The herbalist's piercing look and strange words upset her. "What does that mean?"

The herbalist grinned slyly. "You know exactly what I mean. I just like to play games."

Elowen rolled her eyes in frustration, but the herbalist continued. "I want you to find the nine simple keys."

Elowen didn't hesitate to agree, thinking she could easily find nine keys for her mother. She signed the contract before her, though a shiver ran down her spine. 'Nine keys couldn't be too hard,' she thought.

"This quest is just nine tasks," the herbalist said with a mysterious smile.

Elowen's heart sank. Before she could protest, the herbalist sent her away with a cryptic blessing. "Go forth, and may the moonlight guide you."

Elowen blinked in confusion, stunned by the strange treatment. She walked out of the store in a daze, anxious but determined. 'I have to save my mother no matter what,' she thought. She wasn't sure what she had agreed to, but something felt wrong. 'Now the whole village is suffering because of me,' she thought, troubled. 'The herbalist said it's just nine tasks.'

But she lied!!

After a couple of days, Elown set out on the journey alone. She couldn't let anyone down. She had already caused so much trouble, and this needed to be done. The quest tested her at every turn, exposing her to things she never knew existed. She weathered storms, trekked through dangerous forests, and solved ancient riddles. With every task, she grew stronger and tougher.

But as she went deeper, the weight of the journey began to take its toll. The once-beautiful Kaelith realm now felt heavy with doubt. But these were beast tasks, not the key tasks she was meant to complete.

Elowen felt almost invincible after finishing 32 tasks. She had survived the dangers of Darkwood Forest, outsmarted the Elder Tree, and made it through the Misty Mountains. But with every victory, a flicker of hope seemed to dim. Doubts still lingered: "What if she couldn't find the keys? What if she failed?"
