I am reborn.
There is a car coming with a black smoke rising from it. It has completely stopped moving. The people around are saying, "That poor guy is dead... but how foolish he was to jump in the middle just to save others."
A broken piece of glass... it's slowly piercing into me. I can't bear the pain. Everything around me is becoming blurry. I just want one thing — I want to die quickly.
Brother... mom... dad...
I have seen how both of you raised me and my brother. How difficult it was for us to eat even once a day — and still, that was enough for me. But now, I'm leaving all of you so soon. Bye... bye.
I always wanted to make people happy, but I could never do it.
The blurriness is increasing all around me. I can't see anything anymore. I can't feel anything now. I'm leaving this world...
A soft sound of the wind reaches my ears.
I slowly open my eyes. The blur in my eyes is slowly fading. I look around — there's a storm raging. Someone's clothes are flying in the air. The wind is hitting the trees violently.
What is this? Am I dreaming?
Something feels strange... as if I'm standing on four legs. After that, I started looking around. There had been a massive storm. Not a single house had its lights on. It felt like everyone had left their homes and disappeared. I tried to walk further, but something very strange happened.
I looked down at my feet — I was shocked. My feet looked like a cat's. Were these really my feet? I could even feel my tail.
Was I dreaming? Had I been reborn… as a cat?
Yes, I had died in that car accident… and now I was reborn inside a cat.
At the very least, I had wanted to be reborn as a human. And this place… it didn't even look like Earth. It seemed like some completely different world.
Then, I jumped onto a bench to get a better view of the surroundings. Since I was a cat now, jumping wasn't hard at all. I could leap to great heights with ease. My claws could scratch through anything.
Suddenly, the wind picked up. Much stronger than before. A can came flying toward me. No, no, no—!
It hit me right on the head, and I lost consciousness.
The next day, I slowly opened my eyes and realized everything around me had changed. The storm from the previous night had passed. It looked like soft light was filtering down through the clouds above.
Merchants were shouting, calling out to customers. People were walking happily with their families. Someone had even arrived on a bullock cart to sell goods.
I watched all this in shock.I stood up on my four legs and tried to walk closer to the people I had seen. I wanted to explore, to understand where I had ended up. But just as I began to move, I felt something — someone had lifted me up.
A gentle warmth surrounded me — the feeling of a jacket wrapping around my body. I could feel the faint heat from it, soft and comforting.
Then I heard a soft voice, "You're completely covered in mud. I wonder how you managed to sleep through the rain like that."
I was a bit surprised. Is someone... adopting me?
Curious, I lifted my head to see who it was — and saw a girl with pink hair, wearing a black and white jacket. She was carrying me on her back as if I weighed nothing.
We hadn't walked far when I turned my head and saw something beautiful — children playing together in the fields, farmers working with smiles on their faces, and soft sunlight bathing everything in a golden glow.
If I could see this kind of view every day, I thought, I'd love to come back here again and again.
Then the girl turned her head slightly and began speaking to me again.
"You look a little thin… white fur, huh? I used to have some kittens. But they passed away from an illness."
She paused, then added, "What should I name you? Every special creature deserves a name. If there's one you like, go ahead and tell me — even if it's in your cat language."
I hesitated. If I try to say anything, it'll probably just come out as a meow... right? But still, I couldn't stop myself.
"My name is… Sam," I said.
She froze.
There was silence. Her footsteps stopped.
Then, without warning — she threw me toward a tree. Before I could react, she cast some sort of spell. I felt a burst of icy wind surround me, and suddenly I was trapped in a web of ice stuck to a high branch.
Her voice was calm, but sharp.
"You can talk?" she said quietly. "You're definitely not an ordinary cat… You must be a demon."
