Chapter 72 - Chase

Brox cast a spell to resurrect the dead human soldiers into undead warriors to protect him. He was clear about his duty, which was to protect the plague and the cauldron Kel'Thuzad had entrusted to him. Especially after he had just lost his perception of his master, he felt he should try to survive as much as possible.

That way, Kel'Thuzad's death would have value.

Anyway, his master could be resurrected, couldn't he?

Brox thought so. However, he was unaware that after Karthus had taken his soul, his master had lost the chance of resurrection.

His current goal was to quickly break through the blockade. He was almost at the crypt fiends' camp ahead, and victory was in sight.

Brox saw Aiden fighting a hellfire demon. He could recognize that this was the target Kel'Thuzad's orders most wanted to kill. He suppressed the thought of joining forces with the hellfire to kill Aiden and hurried past.

Suddenly, a huge force came from his shoulder, and Brox was caught off guard and knocked to the ground. A powerful crossbow bolt pierced his plate armor and shot into his shoulder.

A burning sensation came from the wound. Brox let out an angry roar. Since becoming a death knight, he had almost forgotten the taste of pain. He reached out and pulled out the crossbow bolt, his icy blue eyes scanning the despicable sneak attacker.

"It's you!" He immediately saw the female huntress in dark blue leather armor and a red cloak raising her crossbow in the distance.

Brox saw the opponent quickly chasing over. He restrained the murderous intent and anger surging in his heart, turned his head, and ran wildly backward. The giant eagle in the sky swooped down like lightning once again, and Brox rolled on the spot to dodge it.

He was now getting closer and closer to the crypt fiends' battle line, but because of the enemy's obstruction, Vayne was chasing closer and closer.

When Valor swooped down again, Brox couldn't completely dodge the pair of sharp claws even when he rolled. The orc death knight's left shoulder armor was torn off with a large piece of flesh. Vayne seized the opportunity to shoot an arrow, which hit Brox's left knee joint, causing him to fall to the ground.

Vayne sneered, reloaded, and strode closer with her crossbow.

At this moment, another death knight rode a skeletal warhorse and rushed over quickly, raising the runeblade in his hand to chop at Vayne, forcing her to stop her pursuit and deal with this newly appeared enemy.

She recognized this person—when she first carried out the mission to hunt down Kel'Thuzad, this gatekeeper named Rivendare had blocked her outside Stratholme. This caused Kel'Thuzad to escape after hearing the news, and her first mission failed.

Now this guy had transformed into a death knight.

"It's time to settle the score." Vayne coldly stared at this death knight who had repeatedly obstructed her.

Rivendare shouted to Brox, "Keep running! I'll hold off the enemy for you!"

Brox climbed up, dragging his injured leg and limping forward. But even when he was in good health and riding a skeletal warhorse, he couldn't escape the pursuit of the hunting eagle in the sky, let alone with an injured leg?

He let out an angry roar, glared at Valor, who was rushing down from the sky again, and held his axe with both hands, no longer making futile escapes.

Now he just wanted to fight to his heart's content!

But at this moment, Brox suddenly felt his feet go empty, and then he was dragged into the ground. Valor let out a sharp cry, but was unable to chase into the newly formed cave.

The beetle-shaped crypt fiend leader had taken its target into the underground cave!

Rivendare was still trying his best to stop Vayne, but even riding on a horse, he couldn't keep up with Vayne's agile pace. The two crossbow bolts in his chest and abdomen brought a burning pain to his wounds.

He could barely hold on.

Then he saw Brox being dragged into the crypt. Rivendare sheathed his runeblade and chuckled softly, "You have failed."

The furious Valor grabbed the death knight and threw him into the sky, letting him fall freely. Then Vayne ended Rivendare's life with a crossbow bolt to the forehead.

Lux exclaimed behind Aiden, "The orc death knight ran away!"

Aiden was shocked. He tried his best to kill his opponent. Looking around the battlefield, Lord Garithos, the Lordaeron admiral who had personally blocked the death knight Rivendare, fell to the side with his man and horse, unconscious. Vayne and Valor cooperated to kill Rivendare. The battlefield was in chaos, and the beetle leader could be seen emerging from the center of the crypt fiends, carrying Brox, and then drilling underground again, disappearing from his sight.

"Varimathras, prepare to retreat!" The dreadlord leader Tichondrius shouted to his partner who was fighting alongside him against the Judgment Angel Kayle.

"Yes, my lord!"

Tichondrius also conveyed information to his other two subordinates, Mal'Ganis and Detheroc, to let them retreat.

"Let the hellfires cover our retreat."

Their conversation was in Nathrezim demon language, which no one could understand, but their movements were obvious.

And the human side on the battlefield had fallen into an absolute disadvantage and had no ability to stop their intentions.

Just then, a rumble of hooves came from ahead. Highlord Mograine, leading his men, finally arrived at the battlefield!

The dreadlord Tichondrius hurriedly shouted, "Hurry, don't dawdle, retreat immediately!"

Aiden shouted, "Counterattack! Don't let them escape!"

For a time, the situation on the battlefield became chaotic again. Clearly, one point in the north was still the crypt fiends slaughtering humans, while one point in the south had become death knights and a few scattered ogres and snow creatures fleeing for their lives.

However, the final direction of both sides was to the north.

Antonidas was the first to rush to the battlefield with some reinforcements. At normal speed, they should have arrived shortly after Valor appeared. But they encountered a blocker—a mysterious mage wearing a black cloak, covering his entire body.

He stood on a gorgeous magic carpet, blocking these Dalaran reinforcements alone.

Antonidas knew this was an enemy and immediately ordered everyone to attack without saying a word. Now time was precious, the sooner they reached the battlefield, the greater the role they would play.

But the power of this mysterious mage far exceeded Antonidas's expectations.

He dared to come alone to block them because he had the strength to fight this group of powerful Dalaran mages alone!

In just one encounter, two Dalaran elite mages were lost!

The mysterious mage let out a low laugh, "You cannot pass."

This was the most powerful enemy Antonidas had ever seen. The opponent easily resolved their attacks, including his own spells, which failed to cause any damage to this mysterious mage.

Why had he never heard of such a powerful mage before?

Antonidas was secretly shocked. He had to bring out his strongest strength!

With the four powerful dreadlords withdrawing from the battlefield, the pressure on the Alliance heroes was greatly reduced.

After Tichondrius and Varimathras escaped, Kayle slashed the hellfires blocking her path into pieces with two quick swords. With the help of Ophiel and Pamyel, Archmage Modera also solved the last hellfire demon.

Mograine, who charged up with the knights, eliminated the remaining ogres and death knights, completely eliminating the enemies in the rear.

"What should we do, General?" Garithos's adjutant came forward and asked. Now the crypt fiends were retreating like a tide. The soldiers needed to know whether to continue the pursuit.

"How is General Garithos's injury?" Aiden asked. He knew that as the highest-ranking person on the scene, it was necessary to guide these confused people.

"He has been treated by the priest and is still unconscious," the adjutant replied.

"How about this," Aiden said, "You leave a part of the people to take care of the wounded and clean up the battlefield, and those who still have combat power will follow us to pursue the enemy!" He looked at the night huntress Vayne: "Vayne, can you sense the aura of Brox and other main leaders?"

"I can," Vayne nodded.

"Then we continue to chase!" Aiden rode a warhorse and looked at Archmage Modera, "Ms. Modera, please stay and take care of the Dalaran mages. Be careful of any remaining enemies."

Modera had been fighting for so long, and even though she was very strong, she could barely hold on. Her face was full of sweat, and she felt cold and piercing from the cold wind, but she was too tired to even bother to release a warming spell.

Modera nodded and said, "Alright, I will take good care of them."

Lux sat on the saddle of a dead warhorse with no regard for her image, waving her hand and saying, "Be sure to return safely, Commander, Miss Vayne, Miss Quinn, and Lady Kayle!"

Jaina also recovered a little energy, and she waved to Aiden, "I will thank you for saving my life when we return, Mr. Aiden."

Aiden nodded in response, and then said to Kayle, "Kayle, take Ophiel and Pamyel to monitor the whereabouts of the four dreadlords in the sky. Try to avoid fighting, just follow them closely. Be careful of their tricks!"

Kayle"Mm"ed and flew into the sky with her two deputies.

"Valor, report the movements of the crypt fiend army to us at any time."

Valor let out a cry.

"Vayne, lead the way!"

The reassembled army immediately set off again, chasing and killing the spiders and beetle monsters at the rear.

The Deathsinger Karthus suddenly joined the battle group of Dalaran mages against the mysterious mage. His appearance caused both sides to stop temporarily.

Antonidas certainly knew him and was happy to have a strong reinforcement—although this reinforcement looked a little embarrassed.

Karthus stared at the mysterious mage, his eyes full of interest: "Can you tell me your name, mage? I feel your soul is very powerful!"
