Chapter 1 - Faringues: Lore, Biology, and Social Structure

Long before modern civilization began writing its own history, another branch of human ancestry took a different path, into the sea. These beings, known among themselves as Faringues, evolved in isolation beneath the waves, watching silently as their land-dwelling cousins spread across continents.

While human civilizations rose and fell, the Faringues chose seclusion, fully aware that two intelligent apex species could never coexist peacefully on the same planet.

For thousands of years, they kept their presence hidden, observing humanity from a distance, safeguarding their deep-ocean territories.

But human evolution proved catastrophic.

As industrialization, pollution, and ocean mining began to poison their habitats, the Faringues were forced to emerge, not in conquest, but in desperate negotiation.

Their appearance sparked panic.

Humans responded not with diplomacy, but with violence stemming from fear.

The Faringues retreated once more, disappearing from the surface, becoming nothing more than myth to those who had never truly known them.

Since then, they have continued to send observers, scouts who venture close to human shores, gathering information, watching silently from the shadows. Waiting for the day they might reveal themselves again... or for the day humanity forces them to fight for survival.

⚙️ Biology and Evolution🧬 Evolutionary Divergence

Branched from early Homo sapiens tens of thousands of years ago.

Adapted for aquatic life, developing specialized skin, lungs, and skeletal structures for underwater dominance.

Retained humanoid appearance to allow adaptive behavior at ocean surfaces.

🫁 Physiology

Breathing:

Possess both gills and lungs, allowing them to survive in and out of water, though extended land exposure weakens them.

Skin:

Pale, water-repellent, slightly iridescent skin to reduce drag and resist cold temperatures.

Eyes:

Green in color, with a protective transparent shield that retracts when out of water.

Limbs:

Human-like arms and hands with webbed fingers for powerful underwater navigation.

Tail Conversion:

Legs are fused by translucent membranes when submerged, transforming into a powerful, bioluminescent fin.

Membranes retract when on land, allowing full bipedal motion.

Genital Adaptation:

Reproductive anatomy retracts beneath a protective membrane when not in use, preserving hydrodynamics and safeguarding delicate organs.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Social Structure and Genders

The Faringues recognize four distinct genders, each fulfilling unique biological and societal roles:

1. Females (High Gender)

Rarest and most revered.

Command harems of Beta males who serve and protect them.

Dominant in courtship and social hierarchy.

2. Alphas (High Gender)

Territorial and protective.

Naturally drawn to Omegas, with whom they can form soulmate bonds.

Possess the biological ability to trigger mating adaptations in Omegas.

3. Omegas (Rare Sub-Gender)

Appear outwardly male but possess reproductive capability, able to conceive when bonded with an Alpha.

Highly coveted but biologically rare.

Their bodies and instincts shift when an Alpha's biological presence triggers mating adaptation.

4. Betas (Common Gender)

Serve as warriors, scouts, and harem guards.

Some Betas, unable to submit to harem roles, evolve into Alphas when they find a true mate in an Omega.

🌊 Bonding and Mating🫀 Biological Synchronization

When an Alpha and Omega spend time together, their bodies chemically adapt, preparing them for potential mating.

Scent markers, skin sensitivity, and emotional imprinting begin long before physical bonding occurs.

💞 Soulmate Bonding

Once fully synchronized, an Alpha and Omega enter a lifelong bond, capable of producing offspring.

This union is revered as sacred among the Faringues, often celebrated as a rare and powerful event.
