*swish*clang*thwip*
Fighting could be heard coming from the castle, swords clashing and arrows flying.
*argghhh*
Screams of pain and for help would ring out from the inner rooms.
*thump*thump*thump*
Loud stomping could be heard running from their demise.
*________*
Only after an hour or two was their silence in the castle.
Rooms haunted by silence and covered in dark. Only a single hall seemed to show signs of life as torches still shone their light through the open doors.
Inside the were bodies strewn all over the floor. Some bodies had limbs missing, stab wounds while some had arrows through their heads.
In the middle of the hall surrounded by the bodies was a man standing with a bow and sword in hand. He stood there sword dripping with blood, quiver almost empty of arrows, and numerous cuts and slashes strewn across his body.
The man's face worn from time and his adventures looked at the doors in front of him. The doors that lead to the chambers of the queen of Ithaca.
Odysseus had finally made it home.
He could finally see his darling Penelope once again after 20 years. He would be able to teach his son the lessons he's learned from his voyage and maybe he would be able to just grow old with them and pass away on this very soil.
Odysseus's face had a hint of long lost hope as he took a step towards the doors. Every step felt heavier than the last as he got closer to his reunion.
When he reached the doors he stood there in hesitation. Slowly raising his hands ready to push open the doors only fall to his knees from unimaginable pain coming from his heart.
Odysseus steeled his nerves and propped himself up on one knee. As he was propped up he could see a small slash on his right calf oozing black liquid. The surrounding veins infected with this black liquid leading it deeper into his body.
Odysseus could no longer hold himself up as he fell onto his stomach facing the doors. Biting his tongue for some clarity he proceeded to grip the grimy floor still wet with blood and crawl through the doors.
Though it seemed as fate would not accept that as he could not muster enough strength to open the doors.
With bitter tears falling down his face Odysseus cried "Why?!?!!".
After all he had been through, after all he had sacrificed, and the monster he had become he could not see the face of his beloved one last time.
Soon Odysseus's eyelids were falling limiting his vision more and more until he was left in complete darkness.
