Chapter 10 - Silence After Storm

The front door opened with a low creak.Agent 47 stepped out — the cold wind brushing past the crimson on his gloves.Joel stood near the porch, hand near his holster, tense.

47 didn't look at him. Just adjusted his cuffs.

"It's done.""You're safe now."

Joel opened his mouth, but nothing came out.Not yet.

47 turned and walked away, his footsteps soft over the snow.Toward a wooden bench under a frozen maple tree.He sat down calmly, rolling his neck till it cracked softly. The sound cut through the still air like bone splitting from pressure.

Behind him, Joel finally stepped into the house.

A few seconds passed.

Then came the scream.

Inside, Joel stared at the massacre. Six bodies, blood pooling, bullet holes in the walls. Weapons scattered. No signs of a fight — only signs of precision.

It wasn't war.

It was surgery.

Outside, the NEXUS System pinged in 47's vision:

The air in front of him rippled like broken glass underwater.A glowing portal formed, swirling blue and black, humming low like a living thing. Cold wind sucked into it.

Behind him, Joel stumbled out the front door, eyes wide. "HEY—"

But he was already gone.

The portal collapsed.

The bench was empty.
