Chapter 1 - she and her mother

The phone rang loudly.

Message after message lit up the screen.

A young woman sat alone in her room. Outside, the rain was falling making the air cold and heavy with silence.

She looked at her phone screen, seeing many missed calls and unread messages…

But she didn't answer.

Didn't even bother to check them all.

Instead, her mind wandered… back to her high school days.

Her mother always pressured her to study always told her to try harder.

No matter how good her results were, it was never enough.

Her mother would always compare her to other people's children, like she was never quite good in her eyes.

She once thought,

Maybe if I get into university, my life will finally get better.

Maybe they'll stop comparing me.

Maybe I can breathe.

But when she graduated high school, her mother forced her to study something she didn't choose herself.

Back then, she was just a student who had barely finished high school…

What power did she have to say no?

So she followed the path her mother laid out, even though her heart wasn't in it.

Her life…

It felt like it had already been drawn out by her parents.

Like there was only one road, and she had no choice but to walk it.

There were so many things in her heart.

So many words that wanted to be spoken.

But she never said them.

She kept them locked deep inside.

Sometimes…

Sometimes we should speak up.

Tell the people we care about what's truly in our hearts before it's too late.

Because we don't know what tomorrow will bring.

And if we keep everything buried for too long…

One day, we might no longer have the chance to say anything at all.

But then again…

There are times when even if we speak,

Even if we explain ourselves again and again…

Nothing really changes.

Maybe every parent loves their child. Maybe all parents want their children to grow up well so that when they become adults, they have good jobs and lots of money to make life easier. But what about our feelings? We also want what our parents want for us, but people are born with different talents, dreams, and ideas of the life they want. Could you please try to understand us and ask what we truly want?
