Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Beginning of a Legend

Plop!

Arthur Pendragon's hand slipped from Su Ya's grasp, falling into the pool of blood beneath him. The splashes of blood hit Su Ya's face.

Su Ya didn't know what that scene meant, nor what kind of fate awaited him.

But more importantly, he first remembered—

He was currently on what seemed to be a medieval battlefield, and the enemies—or they must be enemies—their army was ceaselessly surging towards his position.

And the only person who looked like a tutorial NPC beside him had just spouted some inexplicable threats before unceremoniously dying.

"No, you just died?!"

"Even if it's a transmigration, at least give me a beginner's guide before you kick the bucket, big bro!"

Su Ya stared despairingly at Arthur Pendragon's corpse beside him. Through the pool of crimson liquid gushing from his body, Su Ya finally saw his own reflection.

His features were no different from before. If there was any change, it was only his hair and eye color, which were the same as Arthur Pendragon, who was now lying dead on the ground.

This meant that Su Ya looked exactly like Arthur Pendragon.

Combining this with the dying words of the other person—words like "become king," "curse," and "forgery"—his current identity was probably a stand-in for this alternate world's "King Arthur"?

Was the timeline around when King Arthur was 15 years old, the year he was about to pull out the Sword in the Stone and claim his kingship? Su Ya deduced this because he remembered he looked like this when he was 15.

So, he had transmigrated into the legendary world of Le Morte d'Arthur and replaced King Arthur of this world?

But this clearly wasn't quite right. King Arthur was a legendary figure from Celtic mythology, but the muscle-bound man Su Ya first saw, who single-handedly tore through an army of thousands—Arthur had mentioned his name:

Hero, Seleucid.

Ignoring "Hero," which seemed to be a title, class, or rank, Seleucid was a famous general from the time of Alexander the Great, originally a royal guard, who followed Alexander the Great in his conquests and later founded the Seleucid Empire, ruling over vast territories in West Asia.

So, were the two sides currently fighting on this chaotic battlefield the armies of Alexander the Great, the King of Conquerors, and King Arthur—or perhaps King Arthur's father, King Uther?

What kind of ridiculous scenario was this?

The two sides weren't even from the same era, and why would Alexander the Great, who conquered eastward, be attacking Britain, which was in the far west? Had he already conquered the whole world and come back around?

For a moment, even though Su Ya tried his best to calm down and analyze the current situation and possible ways to survive, his mind was still buzzing with chaotic information.

Just then—

Su Ya actually heard his own mind make a sound.

Click, click, click!

It sounded like three dice clattering on his skull, spinning, bouncing, and then landing flat inside his head!

The next instant, subtitles appeared before Su Ya's eyes:

[Dark Dice Pass, future talent triggers will display detailed effects as subtitles.]

[Your innate soul talent is: Heart of Legend.]

[Description: You, who consider yourself mediocre yet yearn for legend, have always overlooked one point—life itself is a legend! So, stand tall and advance without hesitation! Every legendary path you encounter will become wings to help you embark on your legendary journey.]

[Talent: Heart of Legend, triggered.]

[Triggered Legendary Path: Master of the Dark Medical World. (C++)]

[Obtained F-rank Class: Novice Barefoot Doctor.]

[Description: You understand nothing, but precisely because you understand nothing, you successfully killed a patient who should have lived. Your trauma treatment ability has been upgraded to beginner level, but during treatment, there is a high probability of causing severe harm to the patient.]

[Path: Continue to accumulate treatment experience to obtain new E-rank Class: Experienced Quack (1/2), and Class-specific specialties.]

[You have taken another step on the path of legend!]

[Current Legendary Paths: 2/4] (Viewable)

The dice no longer spun and bounced on his skull, and the subtitles floating before his eyes gradually faded. But Su Ya vaguely sensed that he could re-project these subtitles onto his retina whenever he wished.

The moment the subtitles vanished, a flood of surgical and medical knowledge was forcefully crammed into Su Ya's mind: Barefoot Doctor's Handbook (Trauma Edition), Medical Service Team Emergency Handbook, Outdoor Survival First Aid Handbook, Human Anatomy Atlas, Overview of First Aid for Critical Human Body Parts... This knowledge merely existed there, not yet transformed into effective understanding. It seemed that when Su Ya might need to use it, he could access it and learn on the fly?

So, this was the effect of the Barefoot Doctor class? Treating saving lives as an open-book exam?

Was this his cheat?

But why did it trigger such a seemingly absurd legendary path?! Master of the Dark Medical World, Novice Barefoot Doctor?

No, bro, what do you think saving people is, like cooking in Chūka Ichiban!?

And how does any of this help me, who's about to be overwhelmed by the army of Alexander the Great, the King of Conquerors?

Ignoring this temporarily useless cheat, Su Ya continued to think.

Before he died, Arthur Pendragon had also given him a dragon-shaped mark, seemingly a Magic Circuit from the Nasuverse, but he didn't know what it actually was. Arthur hadn't provided an instruction manual. From Arthur's words, he could vaguely infer that the dragon-shaped mark was something that proved royal lineage?

But that was still useless!

After thinking in circles, Su Ya, gradually understanding everything, took a deep breath. Although he seemed to have gained quite a few things in a short time—the Heart of Legend, a legendary class, and the dragon-shaped mark—none of these were particularly useful for his current predicament.

To survive this situation, Su Ya still had to rely on himself!

The long period of thought concluded in mere seconds. Su Ya first needed to continue understanding his situation.

From the information he had observed, it could be inferred that Hero Seleucid, as Arthur called him, wasn't primarily targeting Arthur. He had completely ignored Arthur and Su Ya, who were hiding in the trench, and flew diagonally over the trench to attack the military formation in the rear-right.

This meant that his goal was to directly attack and defeat Arthur's army.

The King of Conquerors, Alexander—let's assume it was his army—their main direction of attack, the advancement of a military formation in hilly terrain, and the advance route of an army on the verge of victory, could be roughly calculated by the "wide straight line" Su Ya saw surging from the horizon.

Su Ya quickly simulated it in his mind and realized that their position in this trench was only on the flank of the Conqueror King's army's advance route. The main army, the large force with exaggerated long spears and shields in formation, would not actually pass through here.

Because the location of the trench he was currently in was clearly chosen with consideration—it was on a slightly elevated mound, convenient for observation and concealment.

This was an isolated observation post.

In other words, if he stayed here, Su Ya might have a certain chance of not being discovered and attacked, without doing anything?

However, this was clearly wishful thinking. If this were a real medieval battlefield, there should still be scout sentries, raiding cavalry, and reconnaissance scouts, units that "opened the map," so to speak.

In the case of the Macedonian army led by Alexander III, Macedonian reconnaissance scouts accompanying the main army would scout several kilometers ahead. Only after confirming there were no ambushes would the generals issue orders to engage.

If the "map opening" before the engagement hadn't revealed the two people in the trench, then Su Ya simply needed to observe the positions of the enemy sentries during the engagement to determine how to act next. In actual combat, some sentry units would retreat to the main force and participate in the attack during engagement, while others would continue to monitor the battlefield perimeter.

Su Ya needed to determine the positions of this latter group of people. This would decide whether he should stay hidden here or take a risk and escape when the opportunity arose.

So, he moved away from Arthur's completely dead body and straightened up in the narrow, isolated trench they were in, poking his head out to observe the battlefield outside once more.
