Chapter 2 - A Body Without a Soul

In the silence of the orphanage, where the night crept through cracks in the old walls, a boy sat alone, whispering to no one. To the outside world, it would seem like madness. But he wasn't talking to himself.

He was talking to the voice in his head.

"…So tell me," the boy muttered, staring into the dim void of his room, "whose body did I take over? Is he still… alive? And where exactly am I?"

The voice responded, calm and matter-of-fact:

"The body you now inhabit belonged to a boy named Cael Vale. And no, he's not alive. His soul is gone—passed on. You're the only one left."

The boy frowned. His voice lowered.

"…He died? How?"

"Of pain," the System said. "Not physical. Emotional. Abandonment, grief, and the quiet erosion of self-worth. His death was slow… but very real."

There was a pause. The boy leaned forward, his voice softer now. "You mean… he died of sadness?"

"Yes. Cael Vale was the only child of a wealthy man—a man who saw him not as a son, but as an inconvenience. A stain on his reputation. His mother died in childbirth due to neglect. No hospital. No care. The father didn't bother. He moved on, left Cael in the shadows, and pretended he never existed."

The System's voice didn't falter. It simply delivered the truth, unblinking.

"For eight years, Cael lived in secret. No affection, no warmth—just silence. Then, three years ago, his father decided to remarry. Cael, of course, didn't fit the image. So he was discarded. Left here, in this orphanage. No name, no trace."

The room fell into a heavy silence.

The boy—now wearing Cael's skin—sat still, processing the cruelty that had shaped this life.

Finally, in a quiet, wounded voice, he asked, "What about his mother? Did she abandon him too…?"

"No. She wanted him. But she never got the chance. She died giving birth to him—because of his father's apathy."

Cael Vale's hands clenched in his lap.

"What a piece of shit," he whispered. "And no one investigated? No one cared?"

"Money," the System replied. "Power. They make the world look the other way."

Cael was quiet for a long time, his thoughts drifting in dark circles. A bitter smirk touched his lips.

"…And they say being rich doesn't means you have everything."

He looked up again. "So, where exactly are we now? And why was I reborn here, of all places?"

"Location: London, England. Year: 1990. As for your rebirth… it was luck. Nothing more. No divine plan. No grand destiny. Just universal chaos rolling the dice and picking you."

Cael gave a dry chuckle. "Lucky," he thought. If I were lucky, I would've finished that damn code and passed the course.

Aloud, he asked, "Alright, System. Can you show me my stats?"

"Ding."

"…Wait. Magic Power? Muggle?"

His mind raced.

"System," he said slowly, "are you telling me… there's magic in this world? And… this word, 'Muggle'—that's from Harry Potter, isn't it?"

"Correct," the System confirmed. "You have been reincarnated into the Harry Potter world."

Cael's heart skipped a beat.

But then he saw it again.

Magic Power: 0 (Muggle)

The breath left his lungs.

"No… no, no, no," he muttered, shaking his head. "That can't be right. I love magic! I always wanted to experience it—Hogwarts, wands, the classes, the journey. Millions of people in my old world dreamed of this! I dreamed of this!"

He dropped to his knees, pleading to the ceiling as if the System lived there.

"Come on, System—brother, father, mother, sister, pet goldfish—I don't care what you are! Just make me a wizard!"

His voice cracked under the weight of desperation.

There was a long silence.

Then, finally, the System spoke:

"First of all, I am none of the things you just listed."

"Second, if you want magic, you'll have to earn it."

"This isn't a fairy tale. Power doesn't come free."

Cael looked up, eyes burning with a quiet fire.

"…Then tell me what I need to do."
