Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 : the distance between us

POV: Bunny (Aisha)

---

It had been two weeks since Bunny joined her new job in Seoul. The city was dazzling, unfamiliar, and full of strangers. Yet every evening when she came home, something felt familiar — Aarav.

He was always there — making her laugh, stealing her snacks, throwing sarcastic comments at her after long meetings.

> Aarav (teasing): "So, CEO-nim screamed again today?"

Bunny (dramatic sigh): "Like always! Who even yells at 9 a.m.? Psycho."

Aarav (smirking): "Maybe he's not a psycho. Maybe he's just misunderstood."

Bunny (rolling eyes): "Misunderstood people don't throw files."

That night, Bunny lay in bed, texting "Unknown" as usual.

> Bunny: "Today the CEO made me reprint an entire 40-page report because the margins were off by 2mm. 2 MILLIMETERS."

Unknown: "Sounds like he's very... precise."

Bunny: "More like, needs therapy."

Unknown: "You sound exhausted. Want me to distract you?"

Bunny: "Always."

She smiled.

🕗 Next Morning – Company Headquarters

POV: Bunny

Bunny stepped out of the elevator onto the 27th floor, coffee in one hand, phone in the other. The energy on the floor felt different today — unusually hushed.

She glanced toward the front desk.

> Receptionist (in a low voice): "Excuse me, ma'am. Please don't use the side hallway today."

Bunny (blinking): "Why not?"

Receptionist: "The CEO is here for a board meeting. He just arrived upstairs."

Bunny raised an eyebrow.

> Bunny (surprised): "He's here? Like, actually here?"

Receptionist: "Yes. He rarely visits in person. Security's tighter than usual."

She nodded slowly and continued toward her department… but something tugged at her curiosity.

CEO? The one everyone called silent and savage?

She remembered Aarav had left early today — way earlier than usual.

> Bunny (thinking): No… that's just coincidence. Right?

Later during lunch, her feet moved on their own.

She found herself walking toward the elevator that led to the top floor — the executive wing.

She stopped at the far end of the corridor, quietly peeking through the partially open meeting room door.

Inside, a group of sharply dressed men sat around the board table.

One man stood at the head.

Tall. Straight shoulders. Dark blazer. Hair neatly pushed back. He was standing with his back to her, pointing at something on the screen.

Something about that silhouette…

> Bunny (whispering): "Why does he look… familiar?"

Before she could make sense of the strange feeling in her chest, someone walked past behind her.

Startled, she turned and hurried back to her floor.

> Bunny (thinking): No. It's not him. He wouldn't keep something like that from me… would he?

She didn't realize she was gripping her phone until her fingers ached.
