*Scarlett's POV*
I'm standing by the elevators when I see her approaching. Chloe Bennett. Noah's ex-wife. She's clutching a leather folder against her chest like armor, but I can see the devastation written across her face.
She doesn't notice me at first. She's too busy staring at the floor numbers, probably hoping the elevator will swallow her whole.
"Ms. Bennett?"
She looks up, startled. Recognition flashes in her eyes, followed quickly by something ugly. Resentment, maybe. Or jealousy.
"You're Scarlett Hayes." Her voice is flat. "Noah's... colleague."
"Deputy president, actually." I smile politely. "I hope your meeting went well."
Her laugh is bitter. "Oh, it went perfectly. Your boss is very generous."
The elevator arrives with a soft ding. We both step inside.
"He's a good man," I say carefully.
"Is he?" She turns to look at me directly for the first time. "Tell me, Ms. Hayes. How long have you been sleeping with my husband?"
