Chapter 13 - Chapter 12 — When the Sky Trembles

The world changed overnight.

Not with fire. Not with blood. But with silence.

And silence in Sehwa was rare.

Lee Haneul sat alone on the stone platform at the edge of the training fields, his posture steady, but his breathing ragged. Meditation had always brought clarity. But now… it brought visions.

He'd seen a sword that wasn't real but could split mountains.

He'd felt a gaze so heavy it crushed his spirit mid-meditation.

And he heard a whisper, deep within his soul:

"Ascend. Or be erased."

He opened his eyes.

Something was wrong with the sky.

It looked normal at first—but if you stared too long, it moved. Like a ripple in calm water. As if the heavens were breathing. And not kindly.

Disciples around the sect were restless. Meditation circles broke early. Techniques that once flowed like water now felt unstable—like they were being pulled by an unseen force.

Elder Jang stumbled into the courtyard, leaning heavily on his cane. His spiritual energy fluctuated wildly, one moment serene, the next turbulent.

He grabbed Haneul's shoulder.

"Did you feel it?"

Haneul nodded. "It wasn't from this realm."

"No," Jang rasped. "No, it wasn't. The rules are breaking. Something… someone… is watching."

That night, the winds shifted.

Literally.

The air itself was denser, like the world had inhaled and was holding its breath.

And then… lightning.

But not from the clouds.

From the sky itself—tearing through it like the heavens were splitting open. A great streak of blue-white flame ripped across the horizon. Thunder followed, but it was deeper than sound. It shook the soul.

Areum ran to Haneul's side at the temple steps.

"What is that?!"

Haneul didn't respond. His eyes were locked on the streak of divine energy carving the sky.

"That… that was divine qi," he finally said. "The real kind. Not from any sect. That was the mark of a god."

"Gods? You mean—?"

"Yes."

The next day, three sects collapsed.

One to the north — the Twin Horizon Sect — was found completely empty. Not destroyed. Just… vanished.

One to the west — the Gold Pillar Sect — imploded from the inside. All their life force, drained in minutes.

And one in the east — a demonic cult known only to a few — was found laughing, their members mutilated in ways no one could explain. They had left behind a single phrase, written in blood across stone:

"The Demon God smiles."

In Sehwa, things didn't get quieter. They got sharper.

Everything felt heightened. The sect's boundary formations buzzed like they were overloaded. Lesser disciples began experiencing nosebleeds just from training too long. Cultivation breakthroughs came faster—but at a cost. Several disciples failed their foundations, burning out their dantians entirely.

It was like the realm itself was rushing them.

Haneul knew he didn't have time to wait anymore.

He entered the deepest chamber in the sect — the Soul Mirror Cavern — a place where inner demons showed themselves. It was said only those prepared to ascend could survive the experience. It was used once every few years.

He activated it without permission.

He had to know if he was ready.

The mirror didn't show a reflection.

It showed the sky — cracked like glass.

And walking across that broken firmament… was his brother.

Lee Haeun.

Cloaked in shadows. His sword glowing. A divine aura radiating from him.

"You're not ready," the vision-Haeun said, not with malice… but with certainty.

"You left us," Haneul whispered.

"I had to. You'll understand. When the Eye opens."

And then Haneul saw it — behind his brother, floating above the ruined sky: a massive closed eye surrounded by three burning rings.

And in that instant… he understood.

Everything was connected.

He snapped out of the vision, gasping for breath.

Blood streamed from his nose. Cracks formed beneath his feet. But he stood—stronger.

Not just in cultivation.

In purpose.

That night, he summoned Elder Jang and the highest-ranking disciples.

"The world is shifting," Haneul told them. "The gods are waking. The cursed are organizing. Secret realms are opening on their own."

Jang nodded. "Then we prepare for war."

Haneul shook his head.

"No. We prepare for revelation."
